How does Helvetica Now compare? Something that visually shows the difference would have been useful. I can't tell, either at the article or at Monotype's website.
Meanwhile, also just announced was the free typeface Public Sans, "a strong, neutral typeface for text or display" (https://public-sans.digital.gov/). That page lets you see samples, but the github page (https://github.com/uswds/public-sans) shows excellent side-by-side and overlay comparisons. That is how a new/updated typeface should be introduced.
> With this merging of the fleets, in Europe at least, a Tesla is no more clean than a diesel Fiat.
That's total bunk. Tesla is effectively selling the clean energy credits. They have an excessive amount of them. They've been doing this in California for years. This doesn't make a Tesla "no more clean than a diesel Fiat".
I'm taking a 450 mile trip on Thursday with one of my Tesla's. I'll stop to charge twice for 20 minutes each. Their SuperCharger network makes it very easy in most of the US.
That's why you *can* buy one.
FWIW, you can't really make such a trip in any other EV for sale (yet -- it's getting better with the Electrify America network deployment by VW, but none of the non-Tesla cars for sale today can really take advantage of the faster charging speeds still).
I also make 500 miles trips in my Teslas, and I've yet to have difficultly "finding a charging station" or waiting if they are busy. The SuperCharger network (as it exists on the east coast of the US) doesn't have such a problem.
The only time I've needed to wait for a SC was on Long Island, where far too many people treat the SC as their local charging solution. That's a minor problem. The good news that only affects my charging at a destination, not while on the trip.
Give people a basic income thats not dependent on whether they bother to look for work or not and... they don't bother! Well, I for one never saw that coming! No no , not in a million years!
WTF with "Score:1, Troll". I agree and I'd mod this up.
As pointed out a HN (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=18085119), the Internet Archive of the download page still has the well-seeded torrent links...
I've worked for a private tech company for 15 years. While I've been here we've grown 3x in revenue and employees (almost 5000 now). We regularly plan for 5 years from now -- never, ever have I ever heard someone think about the next quarter. It's be best outcome for the company and as an employee.
But it may make sense for a theater chain, or consortium of chains, to buy them out
Why buy out MoviePass? They just had a concept that can be easily duplicated. And it already has been: AMC added it's own one price per month subscription service.
The movie matches the book because the book was written to go with the movie, and published just after the movie came out. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
Yes, based upon Clarke's earlier work. But not based upon is book of the same name (which was developed in parallel and came out after the movie premiered). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
"I got all excited. Wouldn’t you?” said Mr. Bernhardt, 67, a retired forklift driver and Army veteran in Ham Lake, Minn. He stayed up until dawn trading messages with the person on the other end. To obtain his winnings, he was told, he first needed to send $200 in iTunes gift cards.
I'd have sent the gift cards, I'm sure, but I'd already sent them all to the IRS to avoid them rushing over to my house to arrest me.
VW introduces more concept EVs than any other maker. Maybe someday they'll start introducing real models that ship.
Thanks, I screwed up when I put the links in parens and /. didn't linkify them.
Next year they'll release a study on how using a (Star Trek) transporter is even better for the environment.
Who cares that there is no such technology right now...

Eventually? Some EVs have that now.

Wrong! 60% of new vehicle sales were EV; half of those were Tesla (for a total of 30% of the market).
Better title: "Over 50% of the new vehicle sales in Norway were Tesla"
Relevant chart by maker: https://teslamotorsclub.com/tm... ...
Telsa 50.6%
VW 9.4%

The "experts" say "not possible for 10 years".
This means it will likely happen in the next 18 months.
What's old is new again! This is the 4th or 10th iteration of something like this.
This article contains the is the same type of faulty logic that tells me my EV pollutes more than a gas engine.

nothing that exists or is in development can store energy as well, and as cheaply, as compressed air
The curious might ask for some references that prove this point.
"Some ... might ..."
Just more FUD from the petro and ICE mfgs showing how EVs are bad for everything. Sigh.
A slightly better read:

(disclaimer: I've only driven an EV for almost 5 years. We've got over 60K combined miles on our LEAF and Model S)

Don't worry -- they already have a Nike rocket.

Technically, the Nike was the first stage of the vehicle. Nike Smoke was one of the NASA variants.
