    Yes, some of our Agents are real Timmies (the ones who think they know what they're doing, but don't) but show me a company that's NEVER hired an incompetent person, with that amount of scale.

    Seriously, everyone bitches about how bad Geek Squad is. For the most part, we get it right. One in a few goes bad - it's bound to happen. Any tech who's actually done any work in the field (on-site or carry-in or whatever) has lost something at some point.

    Nobody's perfect. Cut us a break - not like were advertising to YOU. We target those who can't operate/fix their computers.

    Yes, I happen to have some input at the corporate level (as well as work there), and I'm doing my best to improve things, as everything can always be made better.

    Oh...wow...I'm not sure how to take that, as a low-blow or if I should just die of laughter, right now.

    The Inq is far from Xbox fanboyism. Show me some proof. Perhaps one of our writers is slightly biased, but most of us stay away from consoles.

    (I also noticed he's been modded up as insightful yet still has a score of 1...hmmmm...) troll much, or just get down-modded into oblivion?

    WOuldn't stop someone from copying the file (or would it? security settings are copied if the file doesn't leave the drive letter, IIRC)

    Make the file read-only for non-admins. No editing allowed...they can run said batch file, but nothing else. Or just stick with the normal Run As... instructions.

    Actually, with this they could make it beneficial to seek out all the ads. Destroy the various ads from a specific set of companies (or single company - say there was an "advertising campaign" just before the "Final Solution" was released that had variants) find them, destroy them all, and pick up the loot. Take the items back and get a unique item only found via those ads (either parts, or part of a quest)

    IANAL, but IIRC, I recall this coming up...and as long as those who you distribute it to all have access to the source code, internal releases are okay.

    I don't have the mental capacity right now to dig for the appropriate discussions (Sitting in a Software Quality Assurance class, my degree's in IT) but Google and a few choice words should be able to help.

    The US Goverment found out about these 'Easter Eggs' and discovered they weren't documented in the features lists, or anything they had on the subject.

    The US Government told Microsoft:

    Tell us about ALL the 'easter eggs' (AKA 'undocumented features') in your current products, or lose us as a customer.

    Oh, and don't ever put them in again, this shows you:

    1) don't have control over your code
    2) could easily slip something malicious in

    Hence, the easter eggs disappeared.

    We've got one my roommate (Charlie, from The Inquirer) got for testing, we haven't yet, but with some research, we discovered that you get either the SLI ports, or the standalone...not both.

    TC-enabled hardware has been around for about 2 or 3 years now, 64-bit has had the TC/DRM (version 1) support integrated from day 1...32-bit there's a chance you or I will pull an old Duron out and run Vista in ugly-gui-cuz-you-got-crappy-hardware mode, but we don't have the TC/DRM chips...

    Part of the TC marchitecture states that if a given TC chip thinks it has been compromised, it will destroy/disable itself, thus forcing the machine into unsigned/untrusted mode...now you don't get an IP, because your ISP's router/server doesn't get a TC response from your machine.

    Now you've got a toasted chip - and the key generated for that specific chip (think VIN, serial number, Intel P-III CPU ID) has been forever blacklisted - any attempt to use it will meet with failure.

    Yes - you will need to get the drivers in order for Windows to work. 3rd restore CD has them. Well, the stock ones...I'd recommend tracking down the newer ones.

    I also have the M6805...Ubuntu is wonderful on it, even the 64-bit. Last I checked I had to drop ndiswrapper on to get wireless working...they might've found a non-windows driver for broadcom since then, as that's been about 6 months.

    I'm the mentioned member of the Inq that "got his hands on" an Xbox360. I walked into WalMart the night of the /. article myself, played with it for awhile, and was rather dismayed by the quality. It SAID I was playing in HD - so I think I can safely assume that NO CRT displays on the market can do HD, unless something's changed in the last oh, year or so, and no one told me.

    The games played well, but the graphics were the same as I've been playing for the last 6+ months. One would think Microsoft would make sure that I couldn't see the pixels at least, but apparently not. That or Wal-Mart picked the HD displays to use, but I doubt that.

    ...fired it up last night, was woefully short. I was expecting something along the lines of the whole coast campaign, but turned out to be one 'chapter' (only had to load once, was about the size of a large-ish HL2:DM map)

    Looked fsckin beautiful though, especially on an X850XT on a 20" LCD with the lights off.

    Tech demo for the expansion, that's what it is.
