    Yeah, but then the FCC would just come in and regulate the gravitational spectrum, sell it to the highest bidder and japan would come out with all these cheap baby monitors that communicate with gravity waves tying up the spectrum.

    That means...

    Fast forwarding and rewinding. (No random access)
    Wrinkles and crinkles.
    Tape jams.
    Dirty heads.
    More mechanics in the tape deck so higher maintenance.

    Same here, and...

    I am stillllll waiting for someone to come up with a generic programmable VCR like PVR device that doesn't come with all those strings and monthly payments attached.

    I thought free markets were supposed to provide what is in demand. It must just be the two of us then.

    Its not the TIVO that is spying on you. Its your own desktop computer. Video cameras in every household generates way too much data to be useful. What the 'Monitors' need is data that they can store in a database, process and generate reports on. The kind of data that is collected by Tivo, Media Player, IE, Credit cards Companies, Credit Agencies, Loan houses, State DMV, Insurance Companies, ATM machines, IRS. Think about it, what do you do that is not already put in a database somewhere. All someone needs to do is process that information about you. What do you think they will find out...

    Actually there is Income averaging that the IRS allows. This is beneficial for people with a lump sum cash infusion, like lottery winnings, etc.

    Then there is the 401K, IRA you already mentioned.

    Actually in the case of purchasing a new VW and Honda. The MANUFACTURER pays the dealer to FILL THE TANK before you take delivery. If you don't have a full tank, then the dealer ripped you off.

    No, they just make you listen to more advertising in order to get to listen to the music they play.

    In addition, they control a local monopoly on radio advertising in a region, so you pay more at the auto dealer and grocery store to cover their additional advertising costs.

    With clearchannel, you get synchronized commercial breaks so you can't easily channel surf on your radio to avoid advertising.

    The only remedy to that is to prevent digital copies from a camcorder, even if it is for a legitimate, non-Hollywood content use, such as making low-cost digital copies of the images in a patient's medical record for the benefit of that patient. Sheesh, how about a copy of my daughter's birthday party to send to her grandparents. Isn't that the PURPOSE of purchasing a camcorder?

    The privacy bill that is being proposed in congress now SUPERSEDES any state law. That is, if MN has a more restrictive privacly law, then the US bill being proposed would eliminate any protections provided by this bill.

    The current version of the privacy bill being presented by the FTC requires consumers to OPT-OUT of information sharing.

    Whats really sad is that this is only an issue BECAUSE it effects other businesses. If a car dealer sends deceptive letters to you. (Five Free Silver doller for test driving a car, then you get Susan B Anthony dollars - that contain no silver.) No one even notices. This is only an issue because it was taking business away from other businesses, not because consumers were deceived. I receive deceptive snail mail and email continuously, no one is ordering them to stop.

    I used to do PC Anywhere support connecting to a PC in South Africa from North America. Man! that connection was sloooooooow. Very early in the morning it was pretty bad, but once the east coast US woke up, it was unusable. Don't know if internet to India is any better, but even talking on the phone was a chore. There was such a long delay between the time you stop talking and it message gets received, then they respond, but you already said "Are you there?"

    My understanding is there isn't much you can do about that because the phone calls/internet to that region was via sattelite. Bouncing off a sattelite(s?) was just too much distance even at the speed of light.

    Expect frustration.

    If the police officer isn't present at the search, then there is a break in the chain of custody of the evidence. The ISP's credibility would be on trial. The investigation shouldn't be asking for a search if they aren't willing to put in the resources to ensure the evidence isn't tampered with.
