Aimed at the 18 to 45 age group, this advanced concept prefigures the kind of user-friendly, minimalist vehicles we might be seeing - and using - on our urban, suburban and country roads in the year 2025.
Ah damn it. By the time these things become common(2005),
I will be just outside of the aimed age group (46 yo). This
is the kind of things you hate to discover.
This is not the issue at all. The real issue is not whether or not Microsoft is a monopoly, but the fact that they are unfairly using the monopoly that they gained in the desktop OS market to push other products into consumers.
The first example was Netscape. Right now it's Windows Media Player. Next, who knows? probably Microsoft Reader Document, or the Flash competition they are supposedly developing.
The truth is that Microsoft is gaining market share in certain areas with inferior products simply because they are bundling those products with the OS.
Since when are Instant Messaging Service Providers obligated to keep backwards compatibility?
I think this is a good move by Yahoo! with no evil intentions whatsoever. They are simply upgrading their protocol, and it's not like gAIM or Trillian cannot update to such new protocol too.
This is not like Microsoft's attempt which is trying to extort money through licensing. Money, that most open source clients, don't have.

But the whole point is that they are not protected by the GPL because they openly rejected it.
There is a clause in the GPL that states that you can refuse to accept the license, in which case it turns into a copyright infringment.
Probably because that relies on the publisher instead of the developer. Most CD Copy Protection are the publisher's responsability, and I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case with the packaging of the Retail Games.
I can't even imagine the kind of aceleration this thing experiences.
Are there even human beings "driving" it? By the hints of the article, I doubt it.
I think it's like shooting a "wheeled" rocket. It must be an amazing display.
I hope HL2 will still be #1 in 2009.
Be careful with what you wish for. It would be a sad thing for games if hl2 was still #1 after 1-2 years. let alone 6!!!
I hope the next game after HL2 is better, and the next one even better. It's only good for us gamers.
How would you feel it you were told that HL2 would be the climax of gaming development for 6 years?
Not so happy anymore uh?
that it's going to be released this year doesnt mean it's going to be released immediatly.
So I wouldn't count on being playing it in may.
I'd say December would be a decent estimate.
Unless you meant may of the next year:P
i DID compile the entire system from scratch, as I stated before. I started from stage 1 tarball:).
i have no idea why KDE took so long for you. Mine was done in little more than 24 hrs.
it took me about three days of compiling to get a VERY usable KDE desktop on my old P3 733, using Gentoo and starting from a Stage 1 tarball. I have no doubts that a 2+ Ghz machine would do this in less than one day.
If you cared a little bit about the topic, you would have read the post on the 3drealms forums and you would have noticed that they are releasing THE SOURCE CODE OF THE GAME under the GPL, not the game. They still keep copyright of the game and they still SELL IT.
So if you thought that with this you'd get to play ROTT for free, you will be dissapointed.
it's not really the presence or absence of bugs in the software. We all know that every softwarehas bugs.
it's rather the way these bugs are treated and fixed. With a MS product, some bugs are not acknowledged until they have a fix, sometime months after the first discovery.
with an open source model, bugs are public and are generally much quicker to be patched.
The developers of mozilla already acknowledged this as a major bug. Big enough to pull a release. Now zealots will try to convinve devs that they are wrong? ^_^
and in a MS product it would have been called a minor rendering problem or something equally undescriptive.
go figure. Closed source zealots are always ready to jump at the announce of a "major" oss bug -_-
from the mozilla FAQ:
"Mozilla 1.0 is a fully functional technology demo for those interested in seeing what can be done with Mozilla technology, and those who want to create Mozilla-based products and packages. The intended target audience is the development community. "
so, it's not really a product.
but a great 'demo' imho.
if you want to use the 'commercial' suite, use netscape.

And I'm pretty sure it was Assumption, not presumtion.

dont tell me you got offended by his reply. I actually laughed ^_^ Don't be so dense

it has gcc and glibc, but you have to recompile them anyway to have the newest version and to have it optimized for your particular hardware.

I also think it's a great triumph for mandrakesoft to reach a much wider audience through walmart, but ... millions?
and by the way, solaris is not linux.
seriously, what rpg elements does for example dungeon master have, or final fantasy VII?
I think you mean Dungeon Siege there. Apologies if there's a RPG called Dungeon Master that I am not aware of.
On the other hand I also was very dissapointed that they choosed NWN over Morriwind as Best RPG.

that thing was funny once.

you have been reading Dave Barry too much
only one in every 10000th defective rockets results in such a disaster.
i think you mean Paul Allen.
in those two seconds i could have had already accomplished what i wanted to to at least 3 times.
edonkey already does that. www.edonkey2000.com
