There are good reasons for this!
First off, this is no amazing feat. The 'mom&pop' store I run sells easily 3 or 4 systems a month that are made for the same reason. They are Athlon 1800+'s with 512 of DDR333 and all sorts of good stuff like a Leadtek Winfast TV2000 XP w/ remote and a 22" CRT. They sell like mad because I am able to sell these for only around $1300 as a PC that does TV AND gaming.
The fact that/. posted this shows that someone is way far behind on technology. TV Tuners with TiVO capability etc... have been out for a while. And they are good stuff to. But I am writing this post to address the parent coment claiming that the PC is too powerful.
TO SOME EXTENT IT IS RIGHT!
Now, the use of a TI series GF4 is way overkill. I throw Radeon 8500's or GF3 TI (because they are better then the 4mx and cheaper) in my TV/PC's and they do what they are supposed to flawlessly. One big problem that I used to always notice though it the TiVO app is a HUGE bandwidth hog. I used to be using PC-800 RDRAM and crappy INTEL's until Athlons starting using DDR. DDR Has a slight advantage that I have noticed because the quality of the data (and therefore picture) was greatly affected by the warmth of the RAM (I don't know why, so don't ask) and DDR is easier to keep cooler as well as being fast enough. The Ram is a little lack in this HP system because XP uses a good chunk of the ram, almost around 128M, and the TiVO as well as tuner need as much as possible.
As far as your keen intellect noticing that they should use AMD's or something else, you have to not forget. These PC's will sell like shit. There are way too many bone-heads out there that still think INTEL is the only thing there is. I could easily triple my sales overall if I sold anything INTEL, but I don't because I know. being that the general public is just too ignorant, and Intel is in bed with all the big companies, especially Dellsux and Microshaft, You are going to keep seeing BS like thins until AMD releases the Hammer and intel is sitting, thumbing their neither-reigions waiting until they feel the market is ready for 64-bit.
Hey dip, if fps' were for pc's only (seeing as the Dreamcast was the only console yet to officially support a kb and mouse) then how could the gaming industry POSSIBLY be so strong in the console market?
Do you mean to tell me that the console came about just for racing, RPG and fighting games? Seeing as FPS' are the most popular types of games by 2 fold, I can't see how the console industry could be half as big as it is now! The only RPG series that is really that popular anymore is Zelda seeing as Square EA is supposedly discontinuing Final Fantasy Series due to the veyr poor sales of FFX. And racing?! The only racing game that looks any kind of good for anything other then X-BOX is the upcoming Need For Speed which I will be buying on my X-BOX and PC, thank you mr. "I-am-going-to-stick-to-my-shitty-PS."
The PC market only wishes FPS' were meant to be played with only a mouse and keyboard... there would be a much larger PC market then exhists in our poor economical situation.
BTW.... Since my X-box can play PS and PS2 games (thanks to hacking) better then my PS2 can, I am glad I just sold my ps2 on craigslist!
I wonder when the RIAA and music industry as a whole will realize that P2P isn't hurting their sales at all... I personally bought a CD recently BECAUSE of file sharing. It was hard to decide on doing, but music enjoyment won out. I am just glad that it they are finally on the otherside of the case.
I see said the blind man! I had a clue that they were british shows. I did not know however that TLC had just micr-shafted them (bought them out.) That's a good thing to know. Thanks, and if I could mod I would give you a +1 Informative.
What about Junkyard Wars? I believe that TLC really did something original with that.
Also, didn't TNN's Robot Wars come out before battlebots? I remember when battlebots first came out, the first ad I saw for them was during watching Robot Wars on TNN. I could just be mistaken and it was an ad for a new season of Battlebots and I hadn't cared.
Still, It is a shame that they are canceling battlebots. Not to be a troll, The only thing I didn't like about it is comedy central put that dumb carmen electra slut on there for sex appeal. Why couldn't they have put some prety girl on there who actually knew something about electronics.
I currently have a P.O.S. for my younger sister (who barely knows how to turn a PC on at 17...) to use that is only a p-133 with 32mb and a Trio gfx. It runs BeOS (I think 4.something) prety damn well. I want to upgrade it to Be5 but be's website just says that they are going out of business (http://www.beincorporated.com/.) Anyone know where I can getBE5?
As for Word Processing, I recommend a program called gobePRODUCTIVE! (http://www.gobe.com) I use it on my (ack..)Windows(gag..) box in leiu of Office, and on the BE box. It's damn good and very powerful for how comparatively cheap it is. It's only $49.something on BeOS which I am sure you can get to work well, and it's well worth it. It can even do an almost perfect (I have noticed trouble with OffXP) conversions from.doc and does completely perfect conversions from.xls. That's all I have tried but it is very promising.
Actually both plural forms of virus are correct. However the grammaatical correctness of each usage varies from sentence to sentence. If I cared at all and didn't have a psycho for an english teacher at college, I would know the rule to explain why... I just know that we went over that in our last class.
First, How much is it going to cost to keep the people there alive and happy etc... Last time I checked it gets very very cold down there, and it takes a LOT of power and money to maintain equipment as well as habitable conditions.
Secondly, Why don't they make more use of it then finding out if some "dark energy," which to me sounds too sci-fi to be true, exhists or not?
Thirdly, will it be stationary like Ariceibo or will they be able to move and aim the telescope. The closest I could find to an answer is, "This will be the largest bolometric array yet built," and I am not quite the astronomer, so I would like to know. It seems like an aweful waste to have it fixed there where it would have a small area to search as opposed to the much greater area it could search if it was aimable.
My fourth and final concern is lighting... I know that in the northern arctic circle they have a lot of daylght in summer (something like 18+ hours if I remember right.) Is it the same for Antarctica? And how will they overcome that if it is?

You have to think though. DSLreports testes based on your burst transfer which varies with system load, ISP load, line noise and even heat! You may very well have been only what DSLreports said when you tested. The only way that you can perfectly test your line speed is by removing every variable there is, which is impossible. The best bet in a scenario like this would to use a physical line-testing system that tests the bandwidth between the client gateway and the ISP. That will show you is the ISP is sending you T1 bandwidth while line conditions are limiting you to DS3 connection. Fibre optic is the only form of link that has almost zero loss, and that is under the absolute best conditions and shortest possible distance...

You do have a point, HP's suck. I am an epson guy and have been since I realized that an Epson won't shake my metal desk to itty-bitty peices from side-to-side like a damned HP will.
I will give them this though: Even though they are soo expencive, the closest rival to their photo series of printers (Inktomi Professional Photogrophy series) are still twice as expencive and barely any better. I print a lot of photos, and to do them I mostly use my hp printer. I have yet to see a printer for it's price range that can do shiny colors like chrome so well.

When the economy is good, People will be buying new computers all the time.
