Maybe a robot that can hunt down where all my missing socks go.
Actually, the dryer DOES eat them. Some years ago, my dryer died. Before tossing it, I took it apart to see what if anything could be salvaged. Switches, motor, etc.
Upon taking it all apart, there was a literal double handful of socks, outside the drum but inside the box. Along with a couple dollars in change, and a 1 dollar bill.
If they do, they're criticized for being too intrusive. If they don't, they are criticized when someone puts a teeny bit of info out there, and the Overlord Facebook does nothing about it.
There's a BIG difference between working and building up a pension, and then retiring and sitting around, vs starting the sitting around thing at age 19, and doing that forever.
No, just that the US is the most high profile target. When stupid crap happens, and various countries beg for steel rain...who do they ask?
Whatever. You can rail against the US govt, and/or the US voters for electing them. The exact same thing happens elsewhere. But many people seem to want to put the onus on the US and only the US.
Why the FUCK does the IRS need to know anything about the state of my medical insurance? (we can go into why other entities (twitter/google/etc) need to know, but that was a previous slashdot article)
"Country A sells aircraft and munitions to other countries." How is this different than anything in the last 100 years? Oh wait....there's that magic word, 'drone'.
Agreed. I get that. But what the OP seemed to be suggesting was turning your house into a refueling station. No mention of 'payment' for fuel, be it liquid or electrons. With a whole lot of handwaving about 'sharing economy', and 'open to people'.
Yes, on some other planet where electricity is free. What you propose is no different than having a gasoline tank in your yard, and letting random people come by and fill up for free. When the tank is empty, you get to pay to fill it up again.
This wasn't a good idea the first time someone proposed this. Or the second time. Or the 5th, 10th, whatever.
Having ID that I may need to hand to a city/state/federal official, that lives on my phone...is a complete non-starter.
You get the little plastic thing in my wallet. You do NOT get all of my contacts and other information as well.
Yes, I get that. But generally, there are many, many other places to 'save/invest' $2 week. Blow off Starbucks once a week. Let up on the gas pedal 100 yards earlier on the morning drive. Reduce the pizza guy tip a little bit, once a month.
Give up a vending machine candy bar twice.
Reduce your monthly internet connection plan.
Unless you are seriously, obsessivly, pinching the pennies....$2/week is trivial.
You're supposed to take in 3 roommates in that studio, also at $14/hr. Just like your H1-B competitors.
That is also done with a 5 year old Dell/Toshiba/HP laptop. Not really a high bar to get over.

I'm pretty sure we could find a Usenet post from 20+ years ago, describing that exact same vector.
He was 83. The human condition does not last much beyond that, no matter what you do or do not do.
But agreed. Goodbye, old friend.
Oh, and this semi-Beta slashdot sucks. Possibly worse than the previous Beta we've seen.

A 'video' I'd do would be very short, and only 2 parts.
1. Be a good person (TM)
2. Don't take crap from anyone.
Anything 'geek related' will quickly be out of date.
And talk to her like you'd talk to an adult. She is only little for a little while. She will soon be 20-25-30
I feel your pain on this journey. Good luck.
Why not spend that actual time with her now?
Weaponized Backhair
Looks like a potentially good/funny game. But $9 million in funding? Why? Print, advertise, profit.

No, I didn't forget. Just didn't go into full depth of all the targets. Syria is ongoing as of today.
When you vote for the bombing criminals, you become a legitimate target.
Obama - Syria, Libya
Bush II - Iraq, Afghanistan
Clinton - Somalia, Iraq, Sudan, Kosovo
Bush I - Iraq
Continue as far back as you choose. And then fold in France, Britain, Germany, etc, etc, etc.
You really think this is a US only, and recent US only, issue? GMAFB.
And again, why does the IRS have anything to do with it? I have health insurance. Why do they need to know this?
I know the reason, but good grief.....how far do we allow multiple departments to intrude into other areas?

That makes the article special
