Well its certainly not like nVidia was ready for the 9700, I mean it did take ATI a whole 3 years to catch up.
3DMark is also insigificant in the real ream of things, if you actually look at the benchmarks of actual game, the things that people actually play, the 5900 still beats 9800 Pro.
Most kids under 17 go with their parents anyway, and the parents are the ones paying for it. They still get the goods anyway. What about the people that live on the boarder, they can just cross it and buy the game and come back.
Yes, on my parents computer, which has 2000 on it(tried Linux it didn't work for them). I set most of the services to manual that aren't needed. Disabled Auto-update. Put it behind a router ofcourse. The only problem remained was Internet Exploder, well I just installed Mozilla with an IE theme, haven't noticed a difference). I think killing most of the services keeps it up. Haven't had a problem with it. This was done before KDE 3.1.x so who knows Linux might work after all.

Probably as a vector to put Unix code into Linux, and someone might see these modifications, think that they are good and contribute them to the kernel or where ever it is found in. Then wait a long time, people wouldn't realize that the code came from Caldera. Then when they became SCO, it would put blame on IBM for the code and say they put it in.
You do realize though, they are doing this to get into the enterprise world. They are making everything the same so someone who knows nothing can use it no matter what GUI is installed.
Yes, screwing themselves over. The best part is, no matter what they do, they just can't win. I'm sure we could make it run GL, but nVidia would have to make the drivers(they won't though), and they aren't giving the specs out anytime soon.
I would write back like this
Dear SCO,
I will not be liable for anything since your company is a complete joke. You have no substantial evidence, or if you do you haven't shared it. Your going up against a company that has more patents than Microsoft and Oracle combined. Also, IBM has more lawyers and money that you can handle. You proabably also be bought out by them and Unix will be GPL'd. This is undoubtably defeat you in everyway possible. You will lose and I have no doubt in my mind that you will. Your threat is hollow, just like your senses.
Sincerly Yours,
The Analog Kid
Chances are if your into 3D Animation you got a Quadro, not a GeForce. I'm not saying that's its going to happen soon, but it probably will unless Microsoft ports DirectX to Linux to keep them alive(optimistically thinking).
This is obviously the mid-range chip of the 35 series. The article(the ati is better one) states it can go higher, why do you think its lower, so that can jack it up and call it Ultra. This is like your BMW M5 of the bunch, the Ultra is like your Ferrari Barchetta(Yes you know what I'm talking about you Rush fans out there)
I have to agree. As long as their not shit, don't complain. I'm not a Open Source fanatic. Sure I use an Open Source OS. Doesn't mean eveything has to be open source. I'm sure most of you can agree, which on would you choose the one that works, or the one that works well. Though I don't know why they can't release the specs to the card so Open Source Drivers can be made.
You right, but that will change as Linux popularity will grow, developers will find it easier to use OpenGL as it cross-platform and DirectX isn't. SDL and OpenAL will come into play as well. People may say that OpenGL is lagging in progress but games like DOOM3 make me somewhat skeptical of these people. Long live Carmack.
Yes they are going from a tricycle to let's say a Ferrari Barchetta(I know what it really is, but I'm trying to be creative and unoriginal). It use to have a unfunctional GUI and now it has....oh wait.
Apple provides Quicktime for both Windows and Mac OS X, they don't seem to have a bias for themselves. They do contribute to OSS, so why don't they provide Quicktime too? I could see why Microsoft wouldn't make Windows Media Player for linux. Apple on the other hand is a mystery. It shouldn't be that difficult porting Unix to Linux. I also don't know why Adobe doesn't port Photoshop to Linux, there is the audience for it. They obviously distaste the Mac. Unless Microsoft is paying them to not port it to keep the market share for themselves. That could explain why After effects only uses on processor on a dual Mac. *Que X-Files Theme*
Well it has to be redistributable under the terms of the GPL, like with Red Hat 9 people were downloading it before they got to the mirrors from people that payed for it. People thought it was illegal but it isn't. So if you really want it you just have to look for a.torrent to download or something like that.
You can barley notice it. To me their is really no pop at all. Ofcourse you'll boo and taunt me and call me the Iraqi Information Minister, but oh well.
I really do love the RIAAs thinking, screw over the people that you need $$$ from, and still expect them to buy CDs. I'm sure we were all ready to go jump up and buy CDs after we read the first article on this. You know with all the money they spent they could have put it to better use to come up with strategies to embrace P2P.

Yeah we use to do it with enslaved animals, like the Flintstones. When we would run out, we used our teeth.

Well they are working on Opteron Support. Its only at 1.4 well not even 1.4, give it time.
Is be like George Castanza and look annoyed, then people will think your busy and not bother you.
No, just kill UNIX all together, and GPL it. It would work IBM would claim it benifical to Linux.
I'm sure IBM would help them out. I don't think IBM wants their customers not to be able to buy more IBM stuff after being raped by SCO.

and GOD DAMMIT, you just have to slashdot it.

Same thing that happened with Star Trek:Armada. Although I think it took longer than this.

SOFII:Double Helix, its been out for quite awhile, like last year. Secondly, why is it at E3, did it miss it last year?

Its actually like a varible, like a quake 3 command code.
