Yes but for future games it won't be as high that's why. I also don't know why the stock Quake 3 is used a benchmark, what to see how funny it would be to see the card's fps on a 4-5 year old game, well we might as well pull Half-Life and benchmark that.

3Dfx demise was because of using a proprietary expensive to license(for developers) API, Glide. Also, their marketing was pretty bad to say the least, not to mention that their card were extremely power hungry and didn't support the stock version of OpenGL very well making users have to download WickedGL. Also, they couldn't do 32-bits only 24-bit.

Yes, Lindows is more like Windows then Linux, thats why its call Lindows not Winux. The only way the Linux will take off is if anything that is done on the CLI can be done with GUI in X like Mac OS X, yet the user can still use the CLI for scripts and stuff. Thats the only way, because the average consumer didn't start using the computer until after MS-DOS went off the mainstream. Granted that most people running servers don't see the light of day like the rest of us(only the ones that are running Windows, because they are stuck inside all day fixing and rebooting there virus infected and crashed servers :) ) but I'm sure there will be one person who would want to start a small server running out of there house and they want to be fast and on in a matter of maybe 2 - 3 hours after install.(remeber these are idiots your dealing with)
