Umm people have been telling the RIAA/MPAA that since this who fiasco began. They are more content with trying to save a dying business model than they are with making changes to their business model to incorporate new technologies. If I was an artist under the RIAA, I'd be pissed that they aren't working in the best interest of the artist. Ofcourse I doubt the good majority of them realize how much they are being screwed, as long as they can buy their fancy house and their expensive car.
I don't care about the political agenda of either camp, for me it's just "what can I do with this code", and I get tired of hearing that the GPL doesn't take away anything when it quite clearly does.
You clearly do care about the political agenda, because the political agenda is what allows you to use the code in the first place, otherwise the code would all be closed and you wouldn't be able to touch it.
ultimately ratings are only useful as a way for non-gaming parents to filter what their kids can play.
More like parents who don't give a damn about actual parenting. What your child can and can't handle comes down to the actual child, I myself could play violent sexual video games without it fazing me in the slightest, and I don't feel the urge to go kill or rape someone.
I believe all or most states will issue state ids, which pretty much look like driver's licenses anyway. Not required to have one though as a minor or even as an adult, just it's a less of a hassle to carry one if you don't have a driver's license.
Tetris doesn't pretend to have a storyline, nor does Serious Sam. I didn't say that a story is a necessity either, what I'm saying is, if your game is going to have a plot, it should be decent, and that's not Id's strong suit, but it doesn't matter, since Id uses their games to showcase their engines.
A single player game (yes I know Doom 3 had multiplayer but it is a regression from present-day FPS) should have a decent storyline, I'm not saying that a video game needs to have deep character development but it should have some elements that make up a story.
People with lower risk pay lower premiums, people with higher risk pay higher premiums.
I'm sure if you got your genes sequenced and found out your at a high risked for high cholesterol, liver cancer, and Alzheimer's you'd be signing a different tune when you got your bill from the insurance company.
Doom 3 was a very pretty game, but it got boring very quickly.
Clearly, Id's forte isn't in good storylines, character development, or anything else that would make a good story to play through. They are in the business of making game engines that provide excellent visuals and then making a lot licensing these engines to other developers who in turn will make great stories using Id's engines. Quake 3 was only really popular because of it's multiplayer (did it even have a single player?), and mods.
It's all about control really. Horse Racing is something that for the most part is takes place in the US as do lotteries, online gambling companies can locate anywhere in the world. That means if the company is not the US they don't have to pay taxes to the US government, so the government isn't get their piece of the pie, and they don't like that.
For the most part a lot of these gaming companies haven't put out something really original in the past 5-8 years. It seems like most of the new games are just sequels to past games. (GTA IV, Halo 3, various sports titles for each year, Empire Earth III etc.) I'm clinging to find something original, hopefully Mass Effect will fill the void for awhile.
The Democrats cry they don't have the votes to override a veto which is B.S. All the Democrats have to do is not allocate funds for Iraq which takes a simple majority and then the troops come home. That's why the founding fathers gave them the power of the purse.
Yeah because the Democratic candidates want to have to respond to their Republican opponents saying "Oh we were so close to winning in Iraq, but those lousy good for nothing Democrats stopped us." Yeah I know, sometimes doing the right thing means losing your job, but I doubt any Democrat has enough backbone to end their political career by doing what is right.
The majority of the work is already done, and if the system is well designed, the game is practically platform agnostic already. All the animations, the meshes, the skins, the sound and music files are all independent of one particular platform, and if the engine is developed properly, the resources involved are minimized.
I'm guessing in this case they designed their game for Windows and Linux/OS X were an afterthought. If they designed their game for portability there would probably be a native Linux port. I dunno if a company like Loki can survive now, but even then with a MMORPG patches have to be released simultaneously or you risk pissing off some of your customers (and really it's unfair to them to do that). Holding back your patches to have all the platform on the same page risks the customers growing tired of waiting for new content. I would guess for a MMORPG its really better to have an in-house team to manage the Linux port, but that is expensive vs the amount of people playing the game on that OS. If Linux has 3% of the total userbase then only a fraction of the 3% would playing the game.
Every MMORPG can be considered beta in some respects. It's not like WoW developers never change classes around and encounters to tweak everything. (though they've made the warrior class the exact opposite of what their aims were, to not just be a meat shield, so much for that).
I only have Verizon FIOS and Comcast as two viable choices for internet. Comcast caps bandwidth and blocks torrent connections and my tv lost signal more than once a month which I find unacceptable for repeated cable outages. (Lose the TV and the Internet, and if you use their VOIP service, you lose that too) So far Verizon doesn't care how much I download, doesn't block torrent and I haven't lost TV, Internet or Phone once since I switched not only that but the image quality is much better vs Comcast. Yes YMMV but so far Verizon has been the better choice. Will Comcast upgrade their system and offer higher speeds, maybe, but Verizon can easily increase their speeds too.
Sure, they may rip out of the copper out of the ground cutting out CLECs but those were never a viable option for me, and I doubt the next occupant of this house really would care, let alone even know that Covad exists.
Mine's 127863 and it's a good thing this article was posted, I wouldn't have known otherwise and my laptop is only a little more than a year old, and yet the HDD has used 1/6th of it's life.
Also, someone here also claims that the buggy behaviour only happens if ENABLE_LAPTOP_MODE is set to 'true' in/etc/default/acpi-support
The bug reports suggestion is that you hand over HD power management to laptop-tools, so which is it, is it good or bad? I wish there was some definitive answers regarding what settings causes this issue because right now there are a lot of different reasons and suggestions being posted. Will leaving your HD constantly spinning break it too? I can't wait for solid state drives, as this issue won't be a problem (although I'm sure there will be others)
Lets say the person was actually being honest with the store, so they refuse to compensate them with a new drive even though BB screwed up in this case by previously refunding a customers box of tiles. So now not only is this person not going to shop at BB but he's going to mention to his friends about the terrible experience he had. Some of his friends might not care and still shop there, others might. So not only is BB losing the person with the box of tiles, but they are losing other customers by the 1st customers recommendation that they not shop there. Depending on how many people they lose, they can't be losing a couple of thousand dollars annually depending on the shopping habits vs $100-$200 or so on one hard drive (probably less since they don't pay the retail price on hard drives) It's far less expensive to keep customers happy than it is to try and get new ones.
It's not surprising the Russia is heading back toward a more centralized controlling government. Places without a strong tradition of democracy, widespread diversity, and are generally poor aren't likely to become democratic. People look at China and wonder why the population won't overthrow the government. It's obvious, because China has always been a closed country with a very controlling government, Communism is just other variation on the same theme.
I think it was under a year when they posted the notes on the door that they were going to be laying down cable and when the actual service started up. I have FIOS and I must say it is much better than Comcrap. My TV hasn't gone out once and no bandwidth caps or stopping BT. Sure they may rip out the copper, but who cares? I'm not going back to copper, and I couldn't care less what the next resident in this house wants. I very much doubt someone won't buy a house because it no longer has a copper phone line.
Can you suspend your laptop using these drivers. There was a problem using the 8.40.3 drivers and any distro that uses the SLUB allocator that causes the system to hang while trying to suspend. Since most distros (if not all) are moving to SLUB this is a pretty big issue, ATI is usually behind the 8-ball though so I'm not getting my hopes up.
I think Southwest claim to fame is that they remained profitable through the years after 9/11 which was very bad for other airlines due to heading fuel options. It's not that Southwest is currently the only profitable airline because as you pointed out that just isn't true.
They want the list of names because the Patriots like any other sports team reserves the right to withdraw your season ticket privileges. As for the list of buyers, maybe they want to ban those people from ever getting tickets or some other reason. The Patriots better hope that they don't ever go back to how things were before Bill Parcells arrived there, when they couldn't even fill the stands.
If you use a laptop with an ATI chipset and the FGLRX module, you can't suspend because there is a problem using SLUB and fglrx, the only alternatives at this time are to use a custom kernel which uses SLAB or not use FGLRX at all. This isn't an issue limited to Ubuntu though as most distros are changing over to SLUB in their new releases.

It should frighten you more that the population buys into crap like that. Sure terrorism is a concern but unlikely it really should be the #1 concern.
Tu quoque
Just because a congressman might be hypocritical, doesn't make their arguments any less valid.

I'd rather them be controversial and push the envelope then succumb to the pressures of soccer moms everywhere.
