Is it really an FCC issue as their documentation explains? does this mean you can't get specs for software radios?
This code manages much of the chip-specific operation of the Atheros driver. The HAL is provided in a binary-only form in order to comply with FCC regulations. In particular, a radio transmitter can only be operated at power levels and on frequency channels for which it is approved. The FCC requires that a software-defined radio cannot be configured by a user to operate outside the approved power levels and frequency channels. This makes it difficult to open-source code that enforces limits on the power levels, frequency channels and other parameters of the radio transmitter. See
for the specific FCC regulation. Because the module is provided in a binary-only form it is marked "Proprietary"; this means when you load it you will see messages that your system is now "tainted".
If you wish to use this driver on a platform for which an ath_hal module is not already provided please contact the author. Note that this is only necessary for new _architectures_; the HAL is not tied to any specific version of your operating system.
Just walk on out and say "No, thanks" if they ask. Works every time. Its quite amusing to see a line of sheep waiting to be searched when you walk right past them. They stay in line, though.
Yea, but who didn't burn ants with a magnifying glass when they were a kid........
I was just looking around myself and didn't really come up with anything.
I'd even settle for a proprietary wireless to a simple basestation with USB/serial. No LCD screen or interface required, or desired.
A simple wired tower/basestation would be fine, too!
> 'Ah, no. We upgraded your plan to a newer one a few months ago and locked you into a one year contract,'
Do they have her signature on this contract? Seems like without that they don't ave anything but a nice small claims lawsuit.
What phone does both GSM and TDMA?
Does it have bluetooth?
I want a nice GSM/TDMA/Bluetooth phone.
You know she just wrote in your permanent file that you're a "problem patient"

> that it comes damn close to HD quality.
You must not have an HDTV w/ true HDTV sources (DiscoveryHD is nice), or
you're blind to make such a statement.
I have various software scalers w/ a HTPC. I have a liteon-2001 that upscales to 1080i.
Neither one is HD. Like I said, they're about 10% better. Its worth doing with current DVDs, but its nowhere near an HD image.
As for video games, changing the resolution allows the video card to render more pixels. True pixels, not inferred pixels like in upscaling.
Because then you're just watching a 480i movie upscaled to 1080i, instead of a true 1080i transfer.
IMO, Upscaled 1080i is only about 10% better than 480i, as you just can't add detail from nowhere. Its nowhere as good as a real HD image.
mean you can't get specs for software radios?
The AV340 I played with lasted about one day, before becoming permanently
locked up displaying an orange screen.
And during the time it did work, it seemed quite large and the interface was quite annoying.
Just did not seem like a quality product at all.
>What irks me is how cable companies want to make extra money from off-air HDTV.
Time Warner (Austin) does not charge extra for off-air HD.
>And it also irks me how these boxes do not downconvert...
My cable box (SA3250) _does_ downconvert HD to Composite/S-Video/RF. (As well as the 480i/480P/720P/1080I component output)
Its actually quite nice, because you can get the wide-screen versions on the regular TV in the other room, too!
How about giving them an opportunity to say goodbye to their friends and family?
I'd say that's worth it.
What are you smoking? Money == Power, no matter if there's a government involved.
Money is power, because with it you can get people to do things they might not otherwise do.
But atleast it was beautiful HDTV rain. ;-)
Caught it on INHD
They may be false positives to wackos, but I for one never recognized them as legitimate faces.
My recognition system discounted them immediately.
In the spirit of fark and smokinggun:

I don't petition companies for them to sell their products to me, I just
buy from their competitors.
Well, I wouldn't go that far... but if a company's website functions poorly it does reflect negatively on the company and its products.
I know I am definiately less likely to purchase something if can't easily access information on their products.
Just walk on out and say "No, thanks" if they ask. Works every time. Its quite amusing to see a line of sheep waiting to be searched when you walk right past them. They stay in line, though.
lost your will to innovate? Blame it on the other guy
I thought we were supposed to blame things on SARS this quarter. Or maybe that's just the tech industry.
No kidding! Check out this financial chart
Other than the blip during the dot-com era when no company could do wrong, they're basically flat for the last 30 years.
I honestly wonder why anyone would actually invest in this company.
Try downloading something like the King James Bible and go mad as you slog through in 80 character monospaced print.
I don't think your experience has anything to do with the print.
I just refuse to give it to them. They can then either accept it, or cancel my purchase. They
then accept it.
Actually, I don't shop at TARGET anymore because they seem to hire more pathetically slow morons than other places.
First off he refers to "war driving" and "war chalking" without ever once spelling out Wireless Access Reconnaissance...
Maybe because not everyone thinks WAR is an acronym?
My understanding is that war-driving is a play on war-dialing and your acronoym sounds like something made up after the fact.
How, in the scheme of the whole freaking universe, does it matter if there is a duplicate post??????
;-(
Every time you post a dupe, god kills a kitten.
Oh wait, that was something else.
