    im afriad that a beta might not give a good impression to users who may buy it thinking its some cheap windows clone... major labels are cloned everywhere else so why not computers?... i can amagine there are going to be some angry people when they get it home and realise it's NOT windows... Lindows need to be exposed better for this to work but i think this is one way to get that exposure... kinda a catch-22

    actually the cost of the infrastructure is payed in part by the outragous "startup" fee's... come on a cable modem and a little length or cable does NOT cost $300...that and 90% of all cable users hardly even TRY to sip at the fire hose they have been given... im sorry that i know how to use what i buy to the full extent... when did using ALL of what you buy mean that you got too much? you PAYED for it

    drugs are not color coded and if we should be protecting the kids from anything it would be you spreading false info about drugs... uppers and downers mixed dont cancle each other out... the tem "upper" and "downer" really arent true at all they just give the gist of the feeling but do not BEGIN to explain what really goes on in your body... so dont try mixing drugs if your just trying to counteract something

    i know this is offtopic but ive heard thi asked before... actually it wouldn't be hard to tell the differnece form a DOS and a good old fashioned /.ing... they could easily check the referer and see that everyone is coming from a link on /.

    its actually NOT incoherant if you know a bit about 3D tehcnology but it IS long... its just using every effect possible on each pixel... if you actually DID have all that stuff not even a geforce 4 would get any frames...

    Why dont you get paid for your work on making software and still have it open source? Just because your getting paid doesn't mean the company that pays you has to close it.

    Think of this:

    1. You write software for company X.
    2. You get paid.
    3. Company X uses this software and makes money.
    4. Company Y finds this software useful and adds to it.
    5. Company X & Y are BOTH in a better position with spending the same amount.

    This is similar to comparative advantage my economics teacher told me about. You and someone else can both work on something and because you each have a strength and weakness you two can come out both better.

    linux has no gui... sorry but maybe your thinking of xfree86 or something but linux != whatever .iso you downloaded. linux is a kernel... its not a whilel system... people dont call it GNU/Linux because thats just dumb but in fact what your thinking of is probably linux with GNU tools and a bunch of other ones... ...remember there is no "official" this or that with linux... its whatever you make it to be or if you want to let someone else make it its what THEY decide to put in their distro

    I agree that your post is funny but on a more serious note im tired of people calling AMD a "kid". AMD has been around for some years and its still got some left but its definetly NOT a "kid". They make some of the best chips you can buy on a price/performance ratio, so really AMD is more like a slightly younger peer.

    how is this troll??? i saw linux is not THE most secure OS and i get modded down??? my point is that if you REALLY want security there are better options but in my opinion those OSes are too restrictive to get anything done that can be easily done in linux

    dvd's scratch, bend, break, melt, and sometimes fall into the microwave... it happens... if dvd was all the safe wouldn't peopel use it for backup more than dat tapes...

    ok... well what i mean is that linux and windows are the top 2 most proken into systems around. Windows is just cause its insecure and linux because a dedicated hacker will be able to break into most any system, linux will keep away 99% of hackers but if soemone really wants to they can find a way into it... its how it is... personall i think linux is the best trade off between security and functionality you can get but there ARE always specialized OS's that can do ONE thing better
