You don't need a phone line for the initial setup. If you get one of the USB/ethernet adapters that works with the TiVo, you can put in a dialing sequence that tells it to go through the network to dial home.
I haven't had a phone line since about 2000, and didn't need one for my TiVo.
Having been hit by a DMCA letter, and running on an "odd" port, I know they can still see what you're downloading. How do they do it? Simple: They start downloading the file, and it gives them a list of all the IP addresses they're peering with. Then it's just a matter of matching those to ISPs, and poof, instant DMCA letter.
People moderate things they think are funny as informative, because that way the poster gets a karma point. "funny" doesn't rate karma for some reason.
A lot of bottom-of-the-line DVD players had codes you could input via the remote to either change, or disable, their region checking. Not doable on the way to the cash register, because it had to be plugged in, but still... easy.
So wait a minute. They would re-edit the South Park episode to reflect the new changes to classic movies? Wouldn't that be... well, changing the classic South Park episode? And then they would have to add Matt and Troy to the episode, which would result in a temporal loop from which nobody would ever escape!
I loved the first two ringworld books, couldn't stand the third, and liked this one.
Half of the third book was about inter-species sex. (I forget the word for it, and I really don't care). In the fourth book, it's mentioned a couple times, happens a couple times, but is much much much much less prevalant than in the third.
This one brings in more cool tech, some spiffy plot resolvers, and a few new tricks for Louis Wu. Thankfully, there is also plenty of backstory in the first few chapters, so if you gave up on the third book, or it's been 10 years since you've read it, you won't have to read it again to get into this one. Dunno if it's worth hardback price though... might want to wait until it's released paperback.
If you want to open your MS Word(tm) documents in vi, you can, although the process is somewhat more complicated. First you have to print the document using a standard Microsoft approved printer. Then open vi and type in your document manually. If you want to complain about this lack of functionality to import MS word files, write to SCO.
As opposed to the clueless masses who think their current monitor IS the computer. Oh, the little box by the desk? I though that was the power supply!"
As a possible fix, try going to Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced, then scroll down to "Multimedia", and check the box for "Show Image Download Placeholders"
It's about time a portable Nintendo device has four right-thumb buttons! Now they can do GOOD ports of every SNES game, and not have to mess with the controls to make them fit in the confines of the GBA!

Obviously, harder than you think. (:

Ah well.
If you can print it, you can scan it in, OCR, and all that fun stuff. Never seen the format they're using, so I dunno if you can print it...
Or take lots of screenshots, and OCR the resulting images. (:
You're just mad he thought of it first! (:
or +5: funny.
Oh, my mistake. I read "include in it the South Park eps" as "include it in..." Sorry. (:
But it would be funny if they updated the South Park eps!

I hear you can filter out any story listed as "scifi" on slashdot, so you won't have to read about any more bad sci fi movies.
Or as Robert J. Sawyer thought up, a tiny turbine installed in a vein powers the system with your bloodflow. I thought that was a cool idea.
After the hurricane, we can look for the lost shuttle of Atlantis somewhere in the ocean, right?
I'm not sure if this is a troll or a funny. I'm so confused!!

Fly from New York to Washington DC, and there's a pretty good chance that part of the flight will take place over the ocean.

So you're saying... umm... it doesn't take a rocket scientist?

If I had mod points, you would get them. Although I don't know if it would be informative, or funny. (:
Didn't you hear, General Hammond retired? It should really be General O'Niell giving the threat. (:
