  1. Re:what about AAC? on Super MP3 Will Feature User Tracking · · Score: 1

sort of - the SBR stuff will get ignored if it is played back on a non-HE compliant decoder, exactly like mp3pro files on a regular mp3 decoder. The "normal" type of AAC you are refering to is LC-AAC or "low complexity" (high complexity is used for more advanced stuff and requires more features and horsepower to decode... won't be used for consumer audio at all I believe). As both HE-AAC and LC-AAC are both part of the official MPEG-4 specification, decoders will hopefully soon do both.

As an aside, why the hell was I moderated down for stating absolute truths? Some jerkoff OS zealot i'm sure. Take it in metamod, asshole!

uhm, vanilla vorbis != better quality at higher bitrates, as it never achieves perceptual transparency without 3rd party tuning (the GT3 modification does a good job though). At lower bitrates, HE-AAC (high-efficiency AAC, using SBR like mp3pro did) is MUCH better than Voris. So no, vorbis pretty much looses either way. And its not like AAC is just an Apple thing, its the logical industry-supported replacement for mp3.

I cannot see a single legitimate reason why people would dump MP3 for this when they can simply switch to the much better LC-AAC in the mp4 container such as Apple and Nero are using now. 4 channels, optional DRM, standardized tagging (id3 is NOT a part of the mp3 spec people!) and lower bitrates, plus better handling of problematic samples.

Lossy codecs don't discard "unnecessary" sounds, they discard inaudible sounds. If you can hear a scratch or 'pop' in the original, then it's going to be in the lossy version as well. This is in theory of course. In practice, even the best perceptual codec throws away some things that the human ear will miss.

The problem is that the strong and weak nuclear forces hold the nucleons (protons and neutrons) together, while the positive electic charges on protons repell each other. This is why, as you move to heavier and heavier elements, the # of neutrons has to increase faster than the proton count - the neutrons buffer the electric repulsion. Even with lots of neutrons, however, at some point the positive charges just get too strong and beta particles (He nuclei) are emitted until the nucleus shrinks to a stable size once again.
