Humans are just animals after all, right? "If it feels good, do it".
I won't stop homosexuals from doing what they enjoy and if their need to experience sex involves domination of other men (there's a lot of domination involved in sexual relationships) that's OK with me. It's a preference IMO. If it's not just a choice, then nature itself must be questioned, because Darwin's theory pretty much supports the male/female relationship and
A local music store has a special on now, 4 CDs for $20 (Canadian, about two-fifty American). Now that's more like it. I spent $40 there this week but on old, crappy stuff that today's listener wouldn't care for. I'm still expecting the now-ripped songs to self-destruct or something in 12 months.
My profile says that I've made 3650 comments to Slashdot over the years. That can't be right, since it would indicate that I've wasted far too much time. What a waste of effort...
Yet "duck-and-cover" (add "and kiss your ass goodbye" for good measure) has been ridiculed for decades because the mere thought of nuclear war was enough to frighten everyone. Fear is an internal thing, getting everyone at the same time to be fearful is quite the trick.
Audiophiles typically are some of the stupidest people on the planet
Hard to disagree, but 30 years ago there *was* a difference between your parents' furniture that happened to have a record player in it/absolutely crappy "stereo systems" and good quality stuff. Back then I bought a 15 watt (yes, only 15 watts) Pioneer system with part-time work money and it sounded great. Up until I found out about the googlephonics system with the space rock needle (my apologies to Gern Blanston).
Most industries (finance, law, medicine, accounting...etc)
You forgot engineering. Every "assembly drawing" (drawings that eventually go to the field for fabrication) that I review, check and sign get verified upstream and paper copies are kept. In my industry's case, a P.eng (or PE, if you prefer) must approve, stamp and sign all drawings. I don't blame the engineers at all for insisting on a paper trail, as quite often discovering how a mistake crept in is important.
But then again, a mistake in engineering could cause bodily harm or death in the immediate future and engineers typically are very aware of the potential consequences of errors. Maybe some politicians and their flunkies are not.
I'm a bit older, non-degreed and have 25 years experience in process plant design. What I often see is over-reliance on software. CAD especially seems to have caused a lot of problems (some companies do it right, but far too often it's worse than hand-made drawings).
weak underwriting standards have led to record number of homeowners entering the foreclosure process
I've never understood the wildly inflated home prices in some areas. Assuming that these are "market prices" and not crazy owners' wished-for buyouts, at some point no one will be able to afford to own a home.
What happens then? A house market crash?
The only people that win from high real estate prices are those that cash-in and move somewhere cheaper, the lenders (usually) and the agents.
Once it's produced, how do you store it? I confess that I now (sort of) work for evil "big oil" but I do have some experience with the practicalities of storing and transporting hydrogen.
Pie are square strikes again!

OMG, boobies!
Not to the extreme?
Yeah, the days of getting excited about cashing my monthly Google cheque has pretty much ended.
This is all bullshit, we should be spending trillions on trying to modify the planet's behaviour instead. Now mod me down, thanks.
Didn't know you became a Dad, this is for you:
What a day for a daydream
Custom made for a daydreaming boy
And now I'm lost in a daydream
Dreaming 'bout my bundle of joy
Enjoy.

If someone were to bump into everyone as we walked along the sidewalk...
There, fixed that for you.
Sure, it makes the aid workers "feel good"
Africa suffers from low self-esteem
Is there some kind of bizarre "symbiotic" relationship going on here?
N/T
I think it's called an ISO container.

You DO know what exists above the ozone layer, don't you? The fart zone!

A couple of weeks ago I rode in a car full of ASME code committee engineers; I've never seen so many airbags in one vehicle.
That makes me wonder: who is the oldest Slashdotter (in age, not UID)?

unsurprising since it was the only intact industrial economy on the planet
You don't consider America's Hat as being an intact industrial economy at the time?
What the hell are you trying to do, promote that killer chemical Dihydrogen Monoxide?!
Immunohistochemistry in chipmunk brain slices, I believe.
That's the funniest sentence I've read all day.
