Help me out here... in legal terms, does 'it seems unlikely' more closely match probable cause, preponderance of evidence or proof beyond a reasonable doubt? I'm tired this morning and can't judge...
With respect... the Democratic party held control of Congress from Jan 2007 - Jan 2011. Obama was president from Jan 2009 - current. During the overlap period, the Democratic Congress did not pass a single budget.
The Tea Party may make a fine demagogue, but please get your facts in a row. They are hardly to blame for our current situation.
You have a LOT more faith in people than I do. Most talk the talk, but when the time comes are afraid to actually resist, it's "Yeah, I could do it, but I don't want to get in trouble."
The truth is that most people just want to get through their day without being harassed. If it isn't their own door getting kicked down, very few people will do anything at all to rock the boat.
The whole victim-mentality that runs rampant
makes my blood boil: "He had bad parenting" "She wasn't potty trained
properly" "The breweries make beer taste too good" "I have a disease" blah
blah blah fucking excuses blah blah blah.
Because it is explicitly stated in the Constitution as a requirement of office?
Personally I haven't paid much attention to the whole 'where was he born' bit. But the requirement is there. If you don't like it, well hey, the document ALSO explains the process you can use to amend it.
Ah... memories. Back in the day when I worked at Amdahl, this was called the "Mid Life Kicker"... components / performance designed and built in from the get go, but not available or activated until later and at a fee.
I love the morons on the motorcycles lane splitting and then getting creamed.
Many places allow lane-splitting (in California the law was you can split lanes, but no more than 10mph faster than the other vehicle in the lane and you may not exceed the speed limit while doing so) because many bikes are air-cooled. No movement, bike overheats, bike dies.
For me, I loved the morons in cages who would pinch off bikes for no apparent reason.
How is a person in a country that is relatively free, but headed in the wrong direction, supposed to agitate for change in that worldview?
I dunno, but perhaps try less agitating and more dialogue?
Honestly, take a step back and look around and you'll see that everywhere we are inundated with declarations that "we" are bad and demands that "we" change our ways. Few seem willing to establish mutual respect, they always demand that "the other guy" provide that courtesy. And most attempts to point this out end with no more progress than the topical equivalent of "he started it!!!!"
That is not a good starting place for compromise.... all this IMHO, of course.
This isn't overstating, really. I've been going through the process of getting cleared (for the moment your base level Secret clearance). Some things I've learned:
1 - 10) It takes a Loooooooong time. I'm 10 months in thus far. Took 5 months to be 'pre-cleared' alone.... and I was RECRUITED to apply / to the contract.
Other random questions / comments I found interesting:
1) Have any significant debt? Showstopper.
2) Have any debt at all delinquent? Showstopper.
3) Argued with a superior in a past job for any reason? Big concern.
4) Can't remember / haven't kept track of people you knew 7 years ago? Concern.
5) Traveled outside the country for any reason in the past 7 years? Concern. (where did you go, when, how long, etc)
6) Been unemployed at any time in the last 7 years? Concern.
It's a stupidly ridiculously bureaucratic process. And yes, I understand the reasoning. That doesn't mean I agree with it.
(who wants to bet this post will cause things to slow down again?)
Hoglund / McGraw - Exploiting Software
Hoglund / Butler - Rootkits
Aitel / Eren (Hi Sinan!) / et al - The Shellcoder's Handbook
McClur - Hacking Exposed
Dowd / et al - The Art of Software Security Assessment
Szor - The Art of Computer Virus Research and Defense
... just a few of the ones I found good that are within arm's reach. That is assuming you learn by reading.
Oh, and the vast majority of exploits target one form of buffer overflow or another. Stack based, heap based... learn your buffer overflows and you're in the door.
So who do you have to bribe to make a minimum Capitol investment and how much?
You don't have to 'bribe' anyone. You generally have to develop a plan (and perhaps a prototype, depending upon your desired equity position) that demonstrates to investors that you have a way of increasing their money.
See? No bribes needed! Just good old fashioned work!
So we can't speak to any knowledge of UK health care, because you will stop us... but we are supposed to listen to the person whose knowledge of US health care is a movie?
Are you really sure you want proportional taxation? Because I rarely if ever use Portland's transit system... and I pay for it every day in my taxes...

Amen.
If it ain't adventure (the colossal cave)... GET OFF MY LAWN.
Created equal.
It comes from the very same sentence in the very say document that declares that a few of the rights are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Pursuit. Not guaranteed. Not provided by others.

Ah... good times... good times...
Way back in the day, my dad told me I could have a modem for our TI99/4A.... just as soon as I wrote a driver for it.
Carry on!
I feel the same way about tree ring data...
That's why I always use disirregardless. :)

Just out of curiosity... what would you replace them with? And how would they be governed?

The fish issue was only an issue because they didn't account for it in early designs, now they do.
Yeah, here in the Pacific Northwest, we 'account' for the fish by removing the dams, not updating the designs.
I, for one, welcome our new salmon overlords!
And I was replying not to a spelling error, but the cynicism and big-government-dependency related in the expressed idea. So... Whoosh to thee, sir.
