Not only that, take a look at the iPod. Apple has 40gig models and they're no bigger then my wallet. The removal of the hdd in the xbox is more for reducing the cost of the machine and more importantly it'll force people into subscribing to LIVE to save games.
I'm 6'4 and I can tell you DO NOT put it at counter-top or table-top height. I dont know how much of a difference 2" will make. But I find that my back really gets sore after in the kitchen for longer periods of time.
I recently built a work bench in the garage for multi purpose things and I set it fairly high up. So that if I'm standing at it with my elbows bent it feels confortable. I'd say about 2" - 4" below your elbow. Trust me, you dont want your back bent if your going to be standing there working.
Also, I got a bar stool for it too. Since it's so higher up if I have the urge to sit down I can still get that "table-top hight" feel.
What your asking for is pretty much exactly what the GamePark32(GP32) has set out to do! It uses SM cards for holding games/mp3's and can even hook up to your comptuer through USB. And its open to the public to develop on.

Its pretty amazing device, too bad it doesnt get that much attention here.
I just ran out of mod points, but he makes such a great point. Who cares if they already have a system. If they are buying a cube as well, then nintendo must be doing something right to get their attention!
you beat me too it. i've yet to play a good game that was based off a movie.
so expensive liscences may not be a bad thing. it'll force the game developers to get more creative! and it'll stop the large companies from just milking a name.
im starting to get tired of having to buy all new hardware every few months.
this might be a good thing(tm). since newer hardware would be possibly incompatible with the game. it could either slow down hardware progression (very unlikely) or force hardware manufactures to be more versitle and allow better backwards compatiblity with older drivers. (maybe)
Okay, lets say that the hardware dectection was there. I really don't think people want to reboot every time they want to play a game.
Plus you couldn't multi-task you're games anymore either. granted, a lot of games you dont need too. however there were times where i would play counter-strike in window mode and multi-task back to a word doc or the net while i waited for the next round to start. as well as letting you run say, winamp in the background and mute ingame music.
and just as im typing this. how would save games be handeled? you cant assume they have a HD if its a live cd.
it sounds brilliant at first. but quickly falls apart imo.
Must be nice! CRT's are a bitch to drag in there every time. Trust me.

"...simply reach out and touch an on/off button to turn off Windows in lieu of going through a ritualized shut-down procedure."
who says we will be running windows by then?
Who say's we go through the shut-down procedure for windows?
I usually just hit the off switch after windows crashes trying shut-down.
Is it just me or does it seem like they are trying to hide something? Of course everyone is going to praise the game pre-launch. Now, post-launch, people have actually gotten a chance to play it. And realized its not what they though.
It seems like maybe there's been so much negative feedback that they want to close the forums from the public to stop other potential players from getting discouraged. I haven't played the game. But I usually browse a game's forums when I'm deciding to buy a game or not.
Dont get me wrong its compleatly SOE's right to do what they want. It just seems a little shady.
I call shenanigans!
The machine doing the tests crashed 2 min into it. How else could they get such low numbers.
Keep your friends close,
Keep your enemies even closer.
Take a look at UT2004. It's about 5.5 gigs installed. When running its using a little over 700mb of ram!!!
This is getting a little out of hand dont you think?

I live in Canada and can say that current cd prices here are about 14-16 for new releases and can go for about 20-25 for older cd's.

And that's the only way the GBA will be superseded - by a machine with compellingly more gaming power.
yea, because games and gameplay have nothing to do with it, right?

I'm offline a lot of the time so I'll just fire up notepad and play single player...
notepad?! so you're a windows user, which means you probably wern't joking. were you?
im sorry if i wanted to carry a giant leaf in my pocket i'd have gone to the tree in the backyard.
what were they thinking?!?

"itsa me mario!"
Or just about any voice acting from mario64. It's just always stuck in my head. or any grunt or yell from zelda64.
oh how i miss you n64...

10. No girl ever fell for you because you were browsing a cool web page
then again, no girl has ever fallen for me for reading a book either.
i guess the AD&D across the top didn't help.
The RIAA Gets Out Of File Sharing!?
For a second I thought hell froze over!
We all can dream, cant we?
Yes i have, and with a laptop it's easy!

With the Nokia Mediamaster 260 S, you can pause live TV, answer the door, and continue watching right from where you left off.
What I want to know is how it answers the door? Thats pretty impressive!
(And yes, I am joking...)
I'm not worried, I always have my trusty camera with me. And if you don't. Smashy Smashy.
