Wait, so is the earth billions of years old, or 6000 years old, as told in the bible?
Most of us have heard of string theory, many of us know what it is and some of us may even be experts in the field. But could you explain it in two minutes?
I can't, but MC Hawking can. And he can get the bitches at the same time.
IIRC, there is indeed a bounty on producing an accurate enough representation of lunar regolith. Of course, it doesn't have to *look* like the moon, but it has to *act* like the moon.
Nevermind the lander... Given that Microsoft paid $240 million for 1% of facebook, how long until someone offers a milti-million dollar prize to build a laser that can carve their corporate logo into the surface of the moon?
Fearing it might lose control over the next generation of computer users, Microsoft has been attempting to match and in some cases block Google's plans, even if that effort is costly.
In other words, they didn't spend $240 million for 1.6% because Facebook is worth $15 billion. They paid $240 million because they're in the middle of a pissing match with Google.

Yeah, I think the key thing here is that Greenpeace has an end goal of getting attention. Once they get attention, then their goal is to say their message.
However, they have to get attention, and so they do stuff like this, which is not necessarily targeting Apple because they have a vendetta against apple, but targeting Apple because they know the media is lazy and sensationalist, and will carry any story that will sell newspapers and commercial airtime.
They got an official rebuttal to the bromine industry by Greenpeace, but the most interesting part is their acknowledgment that their targeting of Apple, even while they have similar reports on every manufacturers, is a deliberate attempt to grab headlines.

That's stupid. If enough people vote "none of the above", then what do you get?
You get what you get now. the person with the highest number of votes. but at least you can track whether people are staying home because they're lazy, or they're staying home because they don't like the candidates.

One of the voters, Martin Minue, a doctor from the northern province of Rioja, told a newspaper it was his way to protest against useless politicians.
I've always felt that a better way would be to add a "none of the above" option to the ballot. Right now, either you like Candidate A or Candidate B, and if you don't like either one, you might as well stay home, or vote the lesser of evils. If you could actually record your sentiments, we might get better candidates.

The space agency today said it will offer $2 million in prizes if competing teams can successfully build a lunar lander
Do they give you a bonus for also constructing a sound stage that looks like a lunar surface?

I'm sorry, but, if it's FREE, then it's not really PIRACY.
The Mythbusters are going to take cockroaches and other insects and apply successively higher doses of radiation in a controlled setting.
So, what precautions do they have on hand in the event one of them grows to enormous size and goes on a rampage?
