>> influencing the vote with last-minute emotions...
Ya, bush and his cronies sure weren't doing that, hahahhahahhahaha. Did you guys catch that dumbass who wanted to duel with John Kerry and was yelling at the TV reporter? What an idiot.
"cowboy coders" that "refuse to check their work into source control". you mean unemployed hacks who live w/ their mom? ahhahahah, seriously, if someone won't check their code into source control because they're too busy tending their cows you've got a problem.
ya seriously - with processor speeds what they are these days, there is 0 reasons to use assembly for anything besides device drivers. hardware is cheaper than the extra man years of developer time.
I don't think that's necessary. Unless you need assembly, why spend the time? I think your time would be better spent working on object oriented concepts and the guts of programming in general, ie: variables, conditionals, types, etc. etc.
Sorry to be OT, but this is too amusing to not comment on. Here at/. people very anti M$, but then on the home page there's an ad for visual studio. Is that ironic or what!?!?
agreed - when I went to college I really felt it was interfering with my tech education! ie: learned too slow, learned outdated stuff, didn't "learn to learn" as I did on the job.
right - get the job done and get it done right. However, a framework is really useful on very large projects, when you can override classes and make good use of code reuse. This is helpful when you have your more skilled developers doing a lot of the interaction between the framework and the customizations to it to fit your specific needs. Then the more junior programmers can simply tie everything together at that point.
Ya - no kidding. I hate realplayer. Every time I set my mpgs to load in windows media player, 10 seconds later some kind of dll that always runs sets my file associations back to realplayer. lame!
why don't we use it for something that benefits humans? teach people how to find their spiritual nature as opposed to brainwashing them to buy stuff they don't need. educate the ignorant masses about what's really going on in life. the eff could have a show detailing the patriot act, total information awareness etc. could you imagine what the world would be like if instead of watching some dumb whore blab about the entertainment industry, you could listen to a top scientist enlighten you about quantum physics!
but that was only because the site ( some auction aggregator ) was _nailing_ them, using something like 1% of their entire server load, and using evasive tactics _after_ getting a cease and desist.

I did a google search for 'Law of Perceived Value' and it returned 0 results. Is there really such a thing?
I am not a quantum physicist - but I want to be! LOL...
Is that like a new pr0n movie?

just my 2 cents

woo hoo! Anyone else have this problem? I think it's funny because I have such a common name.
Couldn't have said it better msyelf. Very well stated, :-)
regarding this syntax:
--
(Num $temp is rw)
--
ick - this type of syntax is why I don't like VB. anyone with me here?
VBScript comes built in w/ some windows, and perl is what I started in. Those are both a bit easier than c++ for beginning programmers...

heh - good luck.
