I know the parent is trying to be funny, but this is the first thing I wondered about. I mean, we place so much value on the visual aspect, but was any thought put into the audio aspect of flying? That is something that I've recently been paying attention to in games and I've been impressed with the attention to detail.
This guy would just have to get a nice sound card and some great headphones, since pilots use headphones...but then he'd be able to hear the props or the jets.
Yeah, I'm waiting for there to be a link drawn between P2P and terrorism. Then every user would be considered "supporting terrorism" and under the PATRIOT Act we could be tried in a military tribunal without access to the "evidence" against us and be tried as an enemy of the state.
I'm not the paranoid type, but it really isn't that far of a jump.
That's what hobbies are for. I work with people all day, but computers are my hobby. I know several programmers who play guitar or something. It's things like that that allow you to think outside of what your particular field is.
Getting rid of PCI/AGP slots only help with size, but it does nothing for less power required and less heat. By not having as much heat, your CPU can potentially run fanless, taking a lot of bulk out of the PC. Perhaps you can't think of a reason you need one, but that doesn't mean someone else doesn't.
This is only a few stores, albeit the large ones. Walmart is probably taking over CD sales. I mean, check this out:
* Largest U.S. Retailer with 3300 U.S. stores $218 billion in sales (2002);
* Largest Jewelry sales - $2.3 billion annually;
* Largest grocer - $80 billion last year for 10 percent of the market, some $15 billion more than second place Kroger's;
* Largest U.S. Employer with 962,000 workers;
As you can see, I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't already the largest CD seller.
Point two, I think the prepacked pop groups are suffering the most from p2p. The average age of their listeners (I'm guessing here) is probably around 15. Maybe lower. On the other hand, indie groups are doing fine. Or groups that aren't "popular". Take, for instance, Royksopp. They have some of the most amazing tracks I've heard, and it's not on LimeWire. Another group that is probably doing fine is the electronica scene. DJ Tiesto doesn't sell a ton of CDs at any point, but his music is well known. It's because better distribution of his stuff (p2p) for more DJs to play. Once they get the people hooked, people will go to shows of DJ Ts. Besides, a lot of DJs only have a few songs total, not enough for a CD anyways, just a few good LPs.
Use Opera. With it's built-in Mouse Gestures feature, you can right-click/drag down and open a new tab. You can also right-click/drag down,drag right to close the window. Handy for some of that crap. Or should I say, one-handy?
Everyone here assumes that Microsoft is the uber-evil company that sends a dark cloud over the business world. Now, listen to this or go read my journal: Microsoft is nothing special in the business world. Every other company tries to do what they do in order to gain market share and make money. I loved this from the parent:
demonstrate a propensity for evil
Wow, I thought we were describing Bin Laden there...Try looking at other companies -- you'll be suprised how many others demonstrate a propensity for evil. I'm not saying no one has power, I'm just saying: welcome to the world of business. If you don't like it, leave, but life is quickly becoming business.
Actually, the architect said that Neo wouldn't understand everything that he said, so it's natural, and almost required, that we don't understand it all either. It's not just straight words, there is more, no one fully understands it yet, but that's the point.
What if you could make it more real? Have people's monthly payment go toward a kitty and set up special matches that reward money? Perhaps with a diversified base of 10,000 users (monthly payment of 15 dollars, that's 150,000), and have different levels have their own "fights" with increasing booty -- I think it'd make people want to level higher and also help others. Well, I'm off to go patent that idea;)
poor track record for service? I have no idea what Walmart you shop at, but at the 20 bazillion that I've been to, they have great service in terms taking returns, being friendly, and making sure everything is in stock. What bad service have you seen?
ed.han has a good point, but let me extend it further: It's because the U.S. is so big that it is hard to roll out new tech. As another poster noted, GSM coverage looks like a road map with smudges in a few major cities. However, the tech-centric user is only going to need these areas, and this coverage is based on need.
I mean, honestly, think about you're cellphone user in bumfsck, Iowa. They don't need to be able to connect to the internet with their cellphone, they don't need access to their email 24/7, they just need voice. So, why set up an infrastructure that they don't need? GSM covers what is needed. I live in Waco, Texas, I use GSM, and I get great signal all the time. When I drive to Dallas, Austin, San Anton, it works amazingly well. This is all that a techie needs: cities, and the roads between them. Anything more would be a waste of resources.
It's the architecture. I remember reading an article on Ars-Technica that discussed just how different the architecture is for the PS2 vs. Xbox/PC. And how it was causing some issues with programmers not being able to fully comprehend and exploit the system. I just got done playing Midnight Club II, and I can tell you that they comprehend it now -- that machine is over 3 years old and still puts out amazing graphics.
I agree completely! I'm not a 40/weeker yet, but these are skills I've learned through various jobs I've held before/through college. In fact, when I moved to a new Starbucks store (after 2 years in the company) I found everyone had that "us vs. them" mentality. As an ASM, I was able to work on both sides and help them communicate their feelings. The best thing I found was anonyminity (sp?). When people don't feel that they will get crucified for saying that they disliked it when the SM would speak in a loud tone when other customers were nearby, they will say what they really feel. And once the SM decides to work on these things, output and speed increase. Happy employees make a better business.
It was this that made me want to study Human Resources, the conflict resolution, the different solutions for each situation -- I find it amazingly interesting.
Then start looking for a job right now. If you know the company's going down the crapper, and if you can stave off having to quit, I'd go for it, and start looking around for other places.
he probably has an nvidia card and hasn't gotten the correct drivers for it (assuming we're talking linux). When I did a fresh install of Mandrake, I forgot to install the driver and was met with some pretty slow action across the board.
how Microsoft employees feel. Get the job done quick, you're commended for your speed, it can be improved on later, and you get good money. Tell me you wouldn't want a job like that!
I went to one that was sponsored by Bawls and Nvidia. It might be worth it to see what they'd give you. I think we got 2 free Bawls, and Nvidia gave their top card away as the prize.
There are many more variables involved than simply your writing style. If you can organise your thoughts on the fly, you cut out a lot of planning time needed for such exams. If you have prepared beforehand and understand the topic fully, they you will be able to jump right in without racking your brain for what the name of the main character was. These are just some ideas, but you get the point -- handwriting is not the end all and be all of time management.
will we ever get to a point at which everyone's lives will have been enriched? i mean, will we keep leaching off of the lowest paid people and finally have helped everyone?

I think that was a dildo...
Umm, what kind of juniors are we talking about? Hopefully college ones...

I liked the Nintendo system better. Complete with a fully working controller.
Use Opera. With it's built-in Mouse Gestures feature, you can right-click/drag down and open a new tab. You can also right-click/drag down,drag right to close the window. Handy for some of that crap. Or should I say, one-handy?

Please tell me your sig is not in German, because if it is, there goes 3 years of German that I guess never sunk in!

That's classic. God bless America...

Reminds me of a the familiar anecdote: How do you keep your network completely secure? Unplug it.
