  1. The trouble with this is on USPTO Issues Provisional Storyline Patent · · Score: 1

it's so fucking crazy, when you tell people about it they're not liable to be outraged, just incredulous. Seriously, I'm still not sure if this is a joke or not. Jesus, if it's not, this is without a doubt the most fucked up thing I've ever seen.

  2. Thoughts on sub-$150 Graphics? on How to Build a $500 Gaming Machine · · Score: 3, Insightful

Is it just me, or is it getting harder and harder to buy a decent card for less then $200? I gotta say, I miss the days of $99 Voodoo Banshees. Heck, if you ask me cards in the $100 range should at least play last years games at 800x600x60fps, and a lot don't. Nvidia's and ATI's naming schemes don't exactly help here either (I especially like how ATI 8500s are faster than many 9200s and the ever increasing alphabet soup trailing off Nvidia card names).

Wow, you really missed my point. The astonishing thing is you've got my point right in your post, and you still missed it. Let's review, shall we?
Dems are running against corruption.. but how can you run a platform against corruption when you yourself are corrupt?
and that, ladies and gentlemen, is the point. It's not that the dems want to be less corrupt (they don't), it's that they have to be. It's expected of them. The Republicans on the other hand... well, everyone earning under $50k/year is expecting a good ass reaming from them already so no harm, no foul when it happens.
  4. While I'll grant on Federal Court Shuts Down Pay As You Go Wireless · · Score: 1

the dems aren't any better, the advantage with them is they're running against all the corruption and evil, so they get away with less. It's kinda hard to run on a platform opposing corruption only to be corrupt. Plus since the media is owned by Republicans, the dems get scrutinized more. It's not that they're less evil, they're just given fewer opportunites. Plus, the current administration's tactic of being so openly corrupt that nobody can stand to believe they'd act that way in plain sight wouldn't fly with dems.

  5. You're not the only one on Gamestop Cuts Hundreds of Jobs · · Score: 1

heading to the internet, which in turn drives up prices. A lot of times you're competing for goods with people that have a higher cost of living. To me in Arizona $15 bucks for used Greatest Hits title is too much, someone in California might see it different. Add a couple million more people just makes this worse.

    Competition's a dual edge sword.

  6. It's FUD on Best Buy vs. The Game Makers · · Score: 1

It's perfectly legal to sell your retail copy of office, and no Microsoft isn't going to sue you. It's grey area whether you can sell OEM (the license agreement may or may not prevent that). OTOH, there are lots of small businesses that can't sell Microsoft Products because Microsoft's legal team bullied them after catching them selling a few pirate copies.

but what's really needed is something just like 'DRM'. i.e. catchy, sensible and gets the point across without sounding silly (sorry, DUM is kinda silly). I've heard 'Digital Restrictions Management' thrown about, but it's got too many syllables and doesn't flow off the tongue right. Maybe 'Digitally Restricted Music'? I think the 'Restricted Music' part is fine but when you add 'Digitally' it falls about; too many syllables again. I don't know, what I'd like to see is something that conveys the fact that rights are being taken away and fits in 7 syllables with each letter being one syllable (no 'W's and whatnot) and starts with a 'D' (to tie it to DRM). Right now, the trouble is DRM is such a great acronym that even people against it use it.

  10. How stable is it? on Mini-ITX Computing For Everyone · · Score: 4, Interesting

I went through 2 via boards on linux before settling on an Nvidia board because I just couldn't get the damn things stable (to be fair, the soyo board was stable so long as I didn't plug anything into the pci slots).

The other thing I'd love to know is if it can do full screen, high res divx in linux, or if there's a mini itx case that can. I figure most of these boards aren't going to run an accelerated X, but I haven't done enough research yet.

  19. How's that work out on S3 Graphics Comes out of Hiding with Chrome20 · · Score: 1

on the notoriously buggy Via chipsets? Has Via cleaned up it's act? I remember for ages not being able to use the nvidia agp port driver because of a timing bug on my mobo (which nvidia, not Via fixed). I also had nothing but trouble on a couple of ~2ghz class KT boards I tried to build with (one cheapo, and a really nice Soyo after that), and finally gave up bought an nForce. The boards worked fine in windows after loading via's 4in1, crashed like crazy in linux (to be fair, the Soyo worked fine until you put something in a pci slot :) ). The nvidia board had some trouble that was quickly fixed in a bios update.

I miss cheap Via hardware, and later gen S3 cards rock for the money, but I can't deal with the instability.
