Bad example. Milk is subsidized by the U.S. Gov't. If the price ever drops below 2$ a gallon, Uncle Sam buys up the excess, destroys it, and drives the price back up.
I've seen some shows at friend's houses. Sienfield, 90120, etc. It's crap, tripe, purile and pointless.
In place of a TV, I have a library of over 2000 books. History, sciences, arts (H.R. Giger rules!), fiction, biographies, the list goes on.
I've taken up writing (short stories written already, novel due soon) playing the guitar, building models, doing SCCA Solo II, and find the time not wasted by watching the boob tube to be so much more.....valuable, productive, enjoyable, you name it.
There was a video link on ebaumsworld recently which was a compliation of the crap that's currently on TV. I was appalled and it only reinforced my view that killing my TV in 1989 was a good thing.
I think the solution to spam is to find the spammers (not that hard) and hang them, in a public square with a sign around their neck that says "this is what we do to spammers"
...If/when that happens, what will European Average Joe consumer reaction be?...
If the EU phrases the edict correctly ("We are punishing Microsoft because they will not adhere to principles, and do not have the best interests in mind for developers), then the reaction will be a positive one, and might encourage a switch to another platform, where support for said platform is implied by the EU gov't.
If phrased badly, well then, there's liable to be a riot in the streets.
In that case, Europe has a LOT to answer for. If you are looking at the overall total, the US is a Johnny-come-lately to the game of global genocide.
And your point *still* isn't valid, you can't hold the present administration (or kings/queens of other countries) accountable for the deeds of past ones.
Shall we hold Bush accountable for what Carter did? SHall we hold Italy accountable for what Rome did during the Crusades?
And how is that relevant? The Original post(er) made the blisterinlgy stupid comment that the US had killed more Iraqis than Saddamn Hussain did, which is patently bullshit.
I am a fan of the books, and the original low-budget British series. The British version worked in the same way the books did, cheeky, slightly "nod nod wink wink" and so on. The makers of the series were careful to follow not only the plot of the books, but the intent as well.
This new version looks so, so, hollywood-ized (i.e. done for a quick cash-grab)
Lots of people live within site of one (or more). I live near one and also within proximity to one of the largest naval (nuclear) bases in the entire world. I have for the past 30+ years.
I've done some work like that as well, let me tell you, it's dead easy if the perp is using Windows. Everything, and I mean absolutely everything, is saved somewhere on Windows, it's only a matter of finding it. From IE histories in the registry, to yahoo chat logs in the windows subdirectory, it's all there, so easy to find, it should be a crime to be that stupid to attempt to commit a crime whilst using a Windows PC.
I know I cannot prove this to you (and as such, take anything said here and on/. with a grain of salt) but my closest friend also happens to be *very* high up in the Scheme Of Things (tm) at teh US state dept. and was privvy to what *exactly* occured during all those meetings.
Saddamn was given *explicit* approval for his invasion plans by the US, and likely we would have done nothing, except for the Kuwaiti royal family and their promise of very attractive oil prices if we helped. And so we did, and the rest is history.
One simply needs to remove all the eye candy.
This is true for XP.
This is *especially* true for Linux.
I drive a 1976 TVR 2500M. No fancy black boxes, no computerized doodads, just one great big honkin' engine and a manual gearbox.
Wouldn't have it any other way.
A wise move, consolidate all your security holes, viruses, worms, BSODs and spyware all under one OS umbrella!
Smart MS, very very smart.
Bad example. Milk is subsidized by the U.S. Gov't. If the price ever drops below 2$ a gallon, Uncle Sam buys up the excess, destroys it, and drives the price back up.
Services: Prostitutes
Goods: Money.
So Services not Goods, equals.....what? Free prostitutes?
(note, this is humor, I happen to disagree with IBM's assessment)
I did, in 1989, and haven't looked back since.

Actually,
I think the solution to spam is to find the spammers (not that hard) and hang them, in a public square with a sign around their neck that says "this is what we do to spammers"
spam will go away fast.
All your base hmmm?
Lots of (and the term "lots" is relative) exploits and vulnerabilites being posted these days about Linux distros.
And yet, I haven't seen any real-world problems, unlike the *endless* (and daily it seems) ones aimed squarely at MS.
So, do Linux users run across the same kinds of problems Windows users encounter on a (near-)daily basis, or is all this just theoretical?
...If/when that happens, what will European Average Joe consumer reaction be?...
If the EU phrases the edict correctly ("We are punishing Microsoft because they will not adhere to principles, and do not have the best interests in mind for developers), then the reaction will be a positive one, and might encourage a switch to another platform, where support for said platform is implied by the EU gov't.

I'm going to recommend something that comes as a shock to most people:
By now (2005) we all have caller ID, answering machines, call back, etc etc etc.
Here's a novel idea: If you don't want to pick up the phone, don't.
On the weekends, when I don't want to be disturbed, I turn the phone ringer off, the answering machine sound down, and ignore the things entirely.
If it's an important call, the answering machine will get it, and the caller id will grab the number.
If it's not important, they won't leave a message.
Very easy.
In that case, Europe has a LOT to answer for. If you are looking at the overall total, the US is a Johnny-come-lately to the game of global genocide.

Nonsense.
And how is that relevant? The Original post(er) made the blisterinlgy stupid comment that the US had killed more Iraqis than Saddamn Hussain did, which is patently bullshit.
...The killing under Saddam was less than the killing under George Bush...
You are kidding right? Saddam killed hundreds of thousands of his own people, and tens of thousands from neighboring countries.
Get your facts straight.
BeOS *still* does it better and faster than any other OS out there.
Here's a little hint to the (future) OS coders out there:
Don't make it snazzy, make it *functional*, snazzy can come later.

Ford Prefect...black? I dun think so.
... Now I can stick a miniSD card into my cell phone and have a small "emergency supply" of music on hand whenever I need it...
...damn hoss.
Are you so hard up for music that you need an "emergency supply" with you?
Stupid troll.
Lots of people live within site of one (or more). I live near one and also within proximity to one of the largest naval (nuclear) bases in the entire world. I have for the past 30+ years.
No problems. None. Zip. Zero. Nada. Zilch.
Grow up.
with a bit of education thrown in for free (most infections come from not-knowing, education will hopefully prevent it in the future)
I give the client a time/cost estimation beforehand, so there are no surprises when the job is done.
It seems like every other day an article shows up here saying so and so (the co-creator of the Mac) is doing something new.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought it was just Jobs and Woz?
How about an OS that doesn't suck?
Treat your "normals" as you would like to be treated if the positions were reversed.
Will solve a lot of problems that way.

>>There are far more important things in life then money...
Bullshit. (I'm kidding)
They say money can't buy happiness, I say they don't know where to shop.
