That doesnt suprise me that the guns were imported illegeally, even where I live in NY state (upstate, not the nyc), we have cases of guns being imported illegally from other states. Just last week we had a gun running ring busted that would buy guns in Georgia (which has very lax gun laws compared to NY's) and then bring them up to NY and sell them to gang members. Part of the problems is that as long as they are easy for criminals to get them somewhere, they will find ways to transport them to where it is supposed to be hard to.

IDE RAID Examined
·
· Score: 3, Insightful
SCSI would have added nothing to the performance of the system except an additional 60% to the cost.
Consider that the seek time on those 160GB IDE drives is around 9-12ms compared to a ibm's 146GB SCSI drive with a seek time of 4.7, 133MB burts vs 320MB burst, 7200 vs 10000rpm. And the thing most business love: 5 year warranty for scsi vs 1 year for the IDE's.
Once serial ATA comes out I think you'll see even more IDE based RAID being used
In workstations yes, in high usage servers, no. Even in the small department I work in, we'd rather pay 60% more for scsi and get a 5 year warranty and proven long term reliabilty
I thought it was the ents who kicked booty in Isengard, Galdalf just showed up at the end to join in the fun and breaks Saramon's staff. opps, did I just add to spoiling?
6) Fastest GeForce4 Ti (or Radeon 9700 Pro) that you want to spend money on, I'd go with one of the new Ti4200 8X cards and save up for the GeForceFX (next year)
Alternatively, try convincing 3dlabs to finally start releasing 'gaming optimized' versions of drivers for their cards. of course the $1000+ for the latest wildcat card they put out is a bit expensive
hmm, ok, i just looked up the current number of cmm-5 shops and its closer to 90 sites currently (in defense of my 1st figure - most were achieved in mid 2001 and after), guess a lot of them must've had a big push to try and get it. still is a very small percentage of the total software development shops in the world:)
It doesn't do a damn thing to have a development shop at CMM-5 if the client doesn't understand the need for process and doesn't understand the software development challenges
I don't think any company could reach level 5 without having that understanding. Thats why there are so few CMM-5 sites, probably less than.0001% of all development shops have it. I know that around March 2001 there was only a total of just eight CMM-5 sites in the entire world (random fact: 4 of those sites at that time who had it were Lockheed Martin sites)
how many of those people who just installed cable and surf hotmail do you think will even hear about this? As slashdot readers, we may seek this kind of news out - but the 'less knowledgebale users' won't be informed that the feds ever even acted on something like that.
why not 4? most people i know doing this prefer raid 5 over raid 0 - its not quite as fast, but whenever one of the hard drives dies, they dont lose any of their work and can often keep going and finish up their project before having to worry about fixing it - plus raid 5's speed is still close to that of 0
Do you really expect that this company would be able to limit the bandwith at the server end, when they can't understand how the users increased their bandwith at the modem end?
This company might not have been smart enough to, but most are. Basically Bandwith is changed by altering your bootfile which sets the limits for the modem. Where I used to work they wrote a management system that would check the bootfiles to make sure they hadn't been altered. Buckeye cable should've just set something up to automatically reset the bootfile or disable to modems as a violation of the terms of service contract the people signed, the FBI coming in was quite a bit of overkill
Now half of their users won't dare install "download accelerator" (or any similar tool) since it "makes downloads faster" which is obviously illegal since those other guys got busted for makin their machines download faster
those don't increase bandwidth used, they just make it use what it has more efficiently (supposedly). Basically just changes the MTU size for packets, it wouldn't appear on any of the company's reports that a person using those was getting more bandwidth.
I'd definitely agree with you, but one thing I hated with sci-fi and the show was its time slot - they pretty much made it impossible for people who go out on fridays to watch without having to record it and then they complained about the lower # of people watching it.
Microsoft may have have more influence in the markets they are in, but pick up a copy of the earnings reports for both companies - Sony had almost double the revenue of MS at the end of the last fiscal year.
personally, I dont see how that 3 second clip added anything, to me it just seemed totally random that all of the sudden with. Yes, Bill was a friend in the book, and was used to show lots of insight to Sam's character, but in the movie I actually consider it a waste of 3 seconds that only confuses people who have never read the book and see it at completely random
but which makes more sense? learn to write more legibly or spend $2000+ on a tablet PC? And if all they are doing is entering numbers from a machine, wouldnt a pda/pocketpc make more sense since its smaller and less expensive? i know ipaq's have pocket excel, so no problem there
So why exactly did they decide to put Bill the pony in the movie for all of 5 seconds? He had nothing to do with the story, and never even did the scene where they got Bill the pony, but they say goodbye to him before going into the mines in the movie. That always puzzled me
doesnt office already require IE? I could've sworn it comes with its own IE5 installer just in case you don't already have it and tells you that you need to install that before the office installation can begin (at least in NT, since 2000/XP, etc come with that installed already)
How is my existing Pentium II laptop not 64-bit? Define "64-bit" for a personal computer.
ability to handle as 64bit word length as a 64bit word length. Sparcs and Alphas can do that just fine, PC's still break it apart. Even though it does multiple 32 bit, they are all still done as as mutiple 32 bit. Multiple data paths are likely to exist in the sparc chips too, does that make them 128?
some of the small ones get mileage like that, but the larger ones tend to be pretty poor. Chevy is still using the 454 in some of their new trucks/suv's - and I know my friend who had one of those engines only got 9-10 city and maybe 13 highway
the ISP I used to work for did at one time require you to login. You could get an IP, but the ubr's wouldnt let you go anywhere until it had verified your account in their database. But when they started offering business class service they had to kill it since hardware firewalls couldnt authenticate themselves on the network
They would get constantly cut off and have to re-connect as we went over areas that didn't have service.
Not necessarily areas that didn't have service, more likely the plane was moving faster than the network could handle the handshake to transfer the call from one cell to another as the plane was passing through (not all cells are the same size, which is why it might work for short calls) Thats why the phones installed on airplanes currently are all satelite phones to prevent those diconnects.

Its not 3 parts - its 3 volumes, and the volumes are divided into parts/books

Marge: I don't understand why we have to build a ray gun to aim at a planet I never even heard of.
Homer: Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.

Some info for those not familiar with the CMM

Not the last - the 4th. most of the time it is the last but not always - example: 2001 it was on November 21st

check out thisarticle - there is a table listing the supposed similarities. I never really even noticed them myself
thats all well and good, but if I want retro gaming with Dragon's lair, I still have the PC version from 1993 :)

let you demand a self install? Heck, at the time warner affiliate where I got it, self install is one of the options given and is $40 cheaper
