The iTunes requirement is the biggest deal breaker for me where the iPhone is concerned. (There is not a version for my operating system.) The lack of a physical keyboard is a close second.
Most Android-based phones appear to be closed source in practical terms, and the forking you mention plays a role in that.
The phone manufacturers may make their devices closed (locked boot loaders, etc.), but the Android operating system itself is open (see the AOSP). I'm running a source-based version of Android 2.2 (Sapphire) on my Droid 1 phone right now. Google can't control the amount of lockdown the handset manufacturers or the carriers apply.
When you drink distilled water, you are increasing your fluid volume WITHOUT increasing your intake of essential minerals. This causes minerals in your tissues to move into solution until equilibrium is reached. When you excrete the excess water, these elements are removed from your body.
I proffer no "belief" in my stand. I simply know of no evidence to show that there is anything other than natural processes at work in our universe.
It is completely rational to discount the idea that intangible pink unicorns control the universe because there is absolutely no proof that they do. Similarly, there is no evidence to show that an advanced intelligence of any sort controls the universe, so there is no rational reason to believe it is so.
I'm genuinely curious: What science leads you to believe that there is intelligence in the "design" of the universe? How is it more compelling than the natural processes presume to have caused the "design"?
I read a little on this stop just now, and the motorcyclist says that there was a marked unit behind him. In fact, it looks like the arresting officer looked back and hid his gun when he noticed the marked car.
When you're using SSH, it's handy to be able to see the display without it being obscured by an on screen keyboard. That's true for several types of applications.
The first link in your snarky little post is for a Television station. Really, is it so hard to link to the actual site?
WD TV Live Plus
You can get them for about $120 at newegg the last time I checked.
Flash works acceptably well on my Moto Droid. I only ever use it for flash video, though, so YMMV.

Wish I had mod points for you, Mister Anonymous Coward. I will instead just say +1 insightful.

Unfortunately, there aren't any other phones which have fewer flaws, and there are lots with more flaws.
Are you serious? There aren't any other phones with fewer flaws? Enjoy the Koolaid!

Looks like Google's policy announcement from July 20 rattled some MS cages.
This is the article at folklore.org that parent was talking about. Pretty amusing.
Shazam is getting lots of one star ratings along with comments about the C&D in the android market:

I keep my phone in my pocket. I definitely DON'T want an external antenna poking me.
(Cue some off-color jokes about "poking".)
His "hypocrisy knows no bounds!"? Really? You need to get out more.
You've made 14 Apple defending posts in this thread alone. Are they paying you?

DROID
Hold out a little longer for the "Droid 2" rumored to have the improved TI OMAP processor (smaller process technology?) running at a higher clock speed. Rumored specs here: http://www.droid-life.com/2010/06/10/exclusive-first-photos-of-the-motorola-droid-2/
For me, it was the fact that android isn't tied to that software catastrophe iTunes. I switched from AT&T to Verizon for the Motorola Droid.
I'm out of mod points, so I'll just say: +1 funny.
"Never tell me the odds..."
Alright, that was just damn funny. Thanks for giving me a chuckle this afternoon.
Motorola is a pretty well-known company. And my Droid beats the hell out of any iPhone (IMO).
I use my iPad at home, you probably won't see me walking around with it.
I'd be ashamed too.
You could paint it orange and pretend it's a brick.
Or glue some hair to it, a rope, and pretend you're walking a chihuahua.
Priceless!
FTFY.
