I imagine that when people, particularly lawyers, look back on a law like the DMCA, they'd look to see how many relevant case histories. And finding so few, they might assume it was generally accepted. Case law is much more likely to survive longer than journal & news articles. So how can we preserve true sentiment, popular or not?
If its my last employer, I wouldn't even toss them a life saver. Besides being two of the most disagreeable, mean, and mentally-disruptive individuals I've ever seen, they had a habit of forgetting to pay us with any regularity. 6 weeks is a long time between paychecks for a college student. Imagine working for a senile, grouchy old man and his bipolar wife. I do have to thank them for really driving me to get the hell out and try working for myself.
Any of my other employers though, and I'd bend over backwards to help. I wouldn't even ask for transportation costs for the 2 hour drive down there. If it wasn't for school, I'd still be working for them (I'd like to hope).
I don't think I've ever had X install & configure itself properly on the first try. You might only get 640x480 in 16 colors, but the Windows GUI will come up.
I've been a Matrox user for 3 years now, with my trusty G400 DualHead. When Windows 2000 couldn't support dual independent displays, Matrox got around that in their drivers. Nice job, guys. Too bad the Parhelia isn't what I need or can afford.
When shopping for a new video card recently, I decided to try out a Geforce, despite some rumblings that the 2D is terribly bad in comparison. I haven't noticed any problems, maybe since my monitors are only capable of 75 hz at the 1280 resolution I run, maybe because I wear glasses.
And now I want to trade my AGP G400 for a PCI one, and get a couple spare displays just for system stats...and to run pretty artwork nonstop to feel as cool as the guys in the Matrix.
I want to replace my Logitech Cordless Desktop Pro, not because of security, but because the wireless link keeps crapping out. Their support told me to get new batteries. Thanks for the help.
I want a split keyboard with a layout like the DP, not like MS's natural keyboard. The Natural multimedia seems ok, but there's an odd large single key where there's normally the insert/delete keys. What's in use out there?
I've had a Logitech cordless KB for awhile, 3 years or so. Now that the connection craps out every few minutes, I'm pretty sure no one will be able to steal a good signal from me.
But...I noticed in one version of the iTouch software, there was an option for encrypting the transmission between kb & receiver. My kb didn't support it, but I think the newer ones do. I don't know anything about it, but there was a doc on logitech's site at one time.
Sometime in the past few months, Sun had a form on its website offering a free copy of Solaris for x86. The form was featured on Slashdot and everywhere else on the net. I don't know anyone who ever got the media.
Porsche has been involved in lots of non-car products. One that sticks out in my mind was a full-suspension mountain bike. I don't remember how involved they were with the design, but I know it was produced by a bike manufacturer. They tossed Porsche stickers on it, and added it as an option.
For future articles, could we keep the level of bullshit to a tolerable amount? Some of us actually lead productive lives with Windows. I know what parts of it suck, just like I know what parts of Linux suck.
This is the second time this week that I've wanted to bitch-slap members of congress for attempting to influence matters in which they are ill-informed.
Earlier this week, Rep. Baca introduced HR 5607 which seeks to add salvia divinorum to the list of controlled substances. Salvia is a non-toxic plant that has been used by shamans for thousands of years, dating back to ancient Mazatecs. Despite marketing attempts to the contrary, salvia does not give you a high comparable to illegal drugs. It does not cause you to go crazy or walk into glass windows. You might look at the concept of your existence differently, and you might have emotional awakenings. I am not aware of any dangers of smoking the substance either. It doesn't affect the mu opiod nerve centers, so it isn't addictive.
Matters like this piss me off, but what are we to do? Convert the heathens? How often have your best arguments been ignored by the opposition? Conviction is stronger than truth. Cash is stronger than votes.
At the bottom of the MS page is a link to submit your own story about how MS software has made your life complete. I'm going to send the story about Windows XP activation puking last week while I was writing my last paper for college graduation. I'd love to let MS know how I stayed up all night trying to reactivate, then installing Windows 2000, and reinstalling Windows XP (only to find out that hey, I can reactivate now that I've reinstalled).
And before any of your even think about saying "That's what you get for pirating," I'll have you know this was a legal copy. I didn't pay full retail for it, but that's the benefit of going to a school owned by Microsoft. XP is worth the $10 I paid for it, but not much more.
Establish bug-ridden products as market leader. Once firmly in control of the world, begin charging for updates to make already purchased products functional.
That should be if you installed RC3, there's no need to download 9.0 final. [g] It seems a lot of us laptop users had problems getting the previous installers to work properly.
I wholeheartedly disagree. Initial loading of pages in IE is noticeably slower compared to both Mozilla & Opera. Browing between pages in your history with back/forward is immediate in Opera, a slight bit slower in Mozilla, and much slower in IE. I admit IE6 seems to be better than previous versions, but when it still frustrates me when I'm forced to use it.
Legitimate uploads can do the same. Whenever I update my website, such as putting a new photo album up, I just walk away. My downstream completely disappears, to the point 56k would be fast.

The Japanese government is waiting for Bill or Steve to fly over and woo them. Unless Japan isn't as important as Australia?

Finally, paying attention in those statistics & risk management courses pays off!

I sure didn't.

Chances are, if the thief was even moderately intelligient, the package was delivered to a drop location, not the person's house.

Where do you live, Montana or Texas?

"rash of fireballs" Reading that line made me snort milk.

Thumbs up, Microsoft!
Thank you.
Thanks. I had been wondering how to do that for awhile. Couldn't find it in any docs

I just installed RC3 on my laptop Monday. Upgrading....a welcomed curse.
When Microsoft does it, its an abomination. When Open Source does it, it's a blessing.
>No, what you got was essentially a test of your sysadmin skills, and you failed. Which is rather irrelevant since he isn't an admin, as he stated.
