Same thing. 2 or 3 people will quit, and everyone will continue to play on and forget. Eq2 players did it, WOW players did it. In fact the only time players actually manned up and quit was the NGE in Galaxies. in a month, no one will be talking about EVA again until the next crisis that won't really do anything.

No, but it's a fantastic way to try-before-you-buy. I am sick to death of buying $50-$60 games only to get burned on them. I'll happily pay two bucks to see if it's worth buying my own copy.

Agreed. But then again, most people who would enjoy rpgs aren't using Redbox anyway. So it's a win-win for anyone sick of $60 console games that only have 5 hours of gameplay.

Most pirates wouldn't buy it anyway. When I was a kid, I pirated stuff I had no intention of buying (I was poor, not like I could afford it anyway).

So far everything is Fluff except for the 3 potions (Xp, Tradeskill, and Acheivement buffs, 3 tiers each). The fluff armor and stupid house pets aren't worth any concern, but the potions can open a door. The 3 tiers of pots (10%/4h $2, 25%/4h $3.50? and 50%/2h $10) are really the only way to get to cap on achievements, so it's not too hard to see it coming. As long as it's fluff, no one should be too worried. However ... it's SOE and that should worry everyone.

  22. Re:SOE & MMO's on SOE Announces New Expansions for Everquest, Everquest 2 · · Score: 1

as a raider in eq2 (in the last 3 expansions), Sony's not doing well because every other expansion changes 1/2 the game's rules (combat, spell resists, personal resists, mechanics, etc), and then releasing stuff months after being "promised" (our mythicals were 3 months late, several dungeons were months late, and most of the time in new areas, at least 1/3 of the mobs were broken and needed fixed/re-balanced). The current expansion (ROK) destroyed my friend's list (I lost almost 30 people to rage quitting and general "fuck it, sony hates us" type of quitting), destroyed most of my old servers raiding guilds due to broken raid encounters and HORRIBLE itemization that made the word progression completely pointless. Judging from the sheer amount of people quiting in this expansion, I personally see this upcoming expansion to either make or break Eq2.

Crippling the game at launch and forcing people to choose either 1 or 0 is lackluster at best. It's already been delayed. I'd pay for more content, not just "what I can get" Going to pass on this. If I can trust them to get it done "by launch" I do not trust them to add it back in, when the first few months of launch will be their busiest.

I'm still buying Ps2 games I enjoy. It's amusing to sit here and read about the "next generation" of console trying to emulate the life spans of consoles when in fact I wish they'd just emulate the great games of the previous generation. Games sell me consoles, not the consoles themselves.

  25. Re:Pirating Used on Confessions of a Gamestop Manager · · Score: 1

I have to agree with you on this, but maybe for differing reasons? I buy used because I can't bring myself to pay $40+ for any game that doesn't use online tracking stats/mmorpg type of play styles. Ut3, Eq2, Battlefield2, etc I have no problems with ... but single player console/pc games? Hell no. While I'm up in the air on the whole "may as well pirate it" mind set, they can't make money off of used games every time in the same setting as the cd I borrowed from a friend didn't net the riaa the cost of the album again, either. Hope that made sense.
