I am really suprised by how much the ps2 has outsold the cube over them 4 weeks, I really thought the cube would be the best selling since its got some really good packages really cheap, then again nintendo would help there cause if they just released a pokemon game for the cube already, I know many people who would have bought one ages ago if they had.
BTW I do know that there is now a pokemon game in japan for the cube, but its a mystery why they did'nt want to release it here for christmas time since I can't imagine it needs much in translation.
all I kept thinking about the redness is if they where true colour pictures, I was reading a site recently that said ansa alters alot it gives out to the public so they show really red skies as thats how the public wants to see mars, I don't know if its true, does anyone know if the images are true colour or altered?
nice list and all but that site tried to install so much junk on my computer, does slashdot really need to link to sites like these? surely the top 30 list exists on a site that does'nt try to pull these tricks.
but onto my point, I though grand theft auto sold over 230,000 copies in japan so how come it is'nt on the list?
I think making MMO based on existing fictional universes is a good thing, although I don't think many things will translate well to a MMO or Have enough fanatical fans to shell out money for them. I have never been intrested in a MMO before, but if they made a StarTrek one I'd definatly give it a try, I know alot of Star wars fan who would never play/pay for a MMO, but now do, so its a great way to bring new audiences into this type of game.
"The difference between the two isn't the killing, it is the obsessive and tedious nature of the games."
But this does'nt work for certain games, for example most men I know would put "the sims" into the "obsessive and tedious nature" category yet nearly every women I know plays it, so obviously women don't mind tedious they just want different forms of tedious.
there is not much difference between versigns service and internet explorer forwarding you to msn search, except you can choose not to have internet explorer do that, with versign you can't.
I would'nt exactly call reducing choice inovative at all.
I see they mentioned the "No One Lives Forever " I bought this game and was never able to get it working on any computer, it was buggy as hell, somtimes you'd gett he game started but textures would be all over, its not suprising nobody bought this game, if people had heard it was buggy, the same reason many did not buy the new lara croft game.
I used to play them sometimes but as others have mentioned they are really slow, and on ntl box's likely to crash it. The thing that stopped me going back was though they introduced charges, to unlock level 2 you must ring this number, its just not worth what they are charging to unlock the levels when you have a pc and can get similar games for free.
it might be true that there is not many in use compared to the overall population, but the people who do use them tend to be more well off, and these people probably account for a greater percentage of advertising dollars spent to reach, for example I see lots of IBM ads on TV and they are aimed at heads of businesses/people who make expensive hardware puraches, I doubt this is evan 0.01% of the entire population and these are the same people who are more likely to use a tivo.
It seems quite strange that europe's numbers are so low, especially considering it includes other area's as well, I wonder if its just because in many places in europe there just is'nt alot of games in the local language.
I'd love to see a break down by countries of europe.
"The other reason that PS2 gains on PC is lower costs. PC games still suffer from double packaging, and heavy promotional packaging considerations. Packaging on ps2 games, on the other hand, are smaller DVD cases. They weigh less, they use less material. And since the packaging is standard, economies of scale begin to appear. All you need to come up with is a cover slip design, a manual, and the game disc"
I don't know where you are from but nearly every game released in the UK for the pc these days comes in the dvd boxes, and from looking at amazon.com it seems most pc games are sold in the usa this way too now.
not a complaint against this game in gereral but a few years back I used to love racing games, but they started getting to realistic and less fun to play, I guess this is what most people want though a more real driving experience, for me though I prefer the old style where the cars where easy to control and you never had to think much, guess that's why I llike games like gta3 and vicecity.
Ifor the last eyar I've read countless time on slashdot that they should go after the people and not the technology, now that they do, you still complain.
"Don't tell me we're back to this. Your statement is simply not true at all. X-box and Ps2 have been sold at a loss, but the Nintendo Gamecube, Gameboy Advance, and the Gameboy Advance SP have NEVER during their entire life cycles yet been sold for a loss whatsoever. Nintendo is making the Gamecube's right now for only about $50, so even giving away a free game, they still make over $50 a console sold in profit."

should'nt the dust storms have worn them down to sand by now?
the game was distributed by capcom, I checked what the games names where on the list for one's I did'nt recongize none where gta.
ok I get your point, but I read on slashdot it had sold 300,000 copies and that was a while ago.6 &tid=99 :)

I guess I should'nt believe everything I read on slashdot

it can store data on your hard drive using cookies though.

Double results and checking also helps to capture random errors i would guess as well though, not just cheating.

I can't really see how this is useful as if you can read it you can copy it and then forward it.
it kinda looks like a purple mole, I want one as a pet.

they did mention it, there it is.

play.com have been selling this for a few days for 338.23 (including delivery), actually probably longer but a few days I have known about it.
I bet the 1000 boxes are already sold, just ont hat site alone, never mind everyone else who seems to be selling it.

just looks like a page full of ads to me.

does that include development costs?
