Actually Doom III will *not* have hordes of simulantious monsters, or shabby lighting effects.
one obstacle we face is making sure people know that what they see is NOT pre-rendered. Everything we are showing is running in real-time in the game engine
So the emphasis is on much much more realistic looking monsters, not simply 'more more more kills'. Atmosphere. sowing the seeds for terror...
The designers are aiming to scare. Trent Reznor (doom3sound fx) says "we want to get inside your head: and make you not like it", so scared to hell is probably true. Any gamer will tell you about how 'in your head' id can make their games, expect the global mass hallucination that will be a nightmare called DoomIII soon!
well, maybe November anyway.
The inside scoop on Doom III's unveiling at E3 here.
Reuters reported that for 45 minutes two days ago people buying domestic tickets in the USA on United Airlines were charged $5.oo. United Airlines promised to honour the tickets. Cool.
It could decipher some amazing things;)
therefore, it is our solemn duty to destroy these weapons of mass destruction, so that we will not anihilate ourselves...
The single biggest distinction is that there's so much story, personality, and character.
You really need to check out morrowind, this game is released, and is eating up game review sites, suddenly the news on them has slowed to a trickle... *wonders why*
www.morrowind.com. I would try a hyperlink, but the last time i did that the i failed with the end tag:P
Put yourself in Shauns shoes...
You are sick of friends 'not getting it' when in comes to the internet, ftp's and irc are to 'techy' for most. You write some file sharing software to fill a gap in whats available. It becomes fantastically popular, suddenly you are a dot.pinup and getting rich really fast.
Then it all goes horribly wrong. Suddenly the record companies are accusing you of robbing them blind, to the tune of millions cubed. And they are going to take it to the courts, all the way. Being rational, at first you think 'this is ridiculous, i mean CD sales are actually going UP', but a reality kick: it doesnt matter. They take you to court and win. Your fucked.
Plan B: If you cant beat em, join em. Then that sad situation results in software no one would want to use. But at least you are not bankrupt, so you let it ride. Then all tha falls through.
I would be pretty disillusioned by this stage. When you think about it, the original napster could have been used to complete replace the current distribution model that is the reason why artists sign to labels in the first place.
Considering you the customer are under certain obligations to perform (in this instance, monthly payments) they as an ISP should be responsive to your requests as a paying customer.
thats all. next.
...he should have been arrested, and made to rewrite the storyline, changing the rebel forces into insurgent terrorists, while the Empire should be potrayed as benevolent and fatherly, a guiding hand in a universe full of danger and terrorists. wait thats reality........
I read in an interview that Nvidia have three design teams, all working a gen ahead of the one in front. When Nvidia release a card, they are also working 1 and 2 generations ahead of that card. That is why we are seeing the 3Dfx tech in the Geforce 4's.
2005: DirectX 12 is released, enabling wireless 3D streamed into Xbox2. Your gaming buddies are all on Passport, all using MSN as a core P2P network, fragging each other the Redmond way...embrace, extend, execute......
Microsoft is big enough and ugly enough to roll with this. I know this will run at odds with the majority readers opinions, but I do think they can survive..what with the cash reserves of several small nations at their disposal they could absorb almost anything. Still, it is a bump on their road to Total World Domaination, oops i mean Passport.
I can see it now... The nostaligia is infectious, grown ups scrambling for small change, all the second hand stores in a ten mile radius having a rush on vintage gaming consoles, fist fulls of deleted titles being snapped up in seconds
..okay, not everyone will agree with me here I know. But Napster came along and said 'hey you! the internet is so cool, whats your favourite band? let me get you some rare live concert recordings, from someone else who thinks that band is great to!'
Lars Ulrich, the *cough* artist *cough* that decided somehow he was losing money thru napster should be happy now. Of course, he is thinking fuck all those small time bands that could have got big because of napster.
When Napster decided it was going to start filtering its mp3 files, it was doomed. The idea that Napster was costing people and business' money spread, overlooking the increasing sales of CD's. Napster should never had made a deal with the RIAA, as soon as 'subscription based' started getting tossed around, we all knew it was dead. Then you hear about the 5000 song database at the 2002 relaunch, and I nearly choked on the 'itoldyouso' of it all.
While they have that shit hot driver writing team. They are constantly 'leaking' the latest detonators, each time improving performance on Geforces across the board. Plus, the have a large slice of the OEM pie. Matrox are interesting because they are challenging, but this is only the begining, lets see whats going on six months down the track.
Huh? I dont get how this is about bandwidth. From the ISP's side, if they say they are providing unlimited internet access, fine. But if they have some small print that says *except what we think is bad like some porn sites* then tough. Thats the deal. If you dont like it, change ISP's.
Still, I see they are denying blocking, but no customer has posted here telling us that they are.
...that elusive x-factor that makes a great game greater. Anyone remember Gauntlet? Hours of few running round a seemingly never ending series of levels. Much later, when Dark Legacy, Gauntlet II came out as new improved 3D, a lot of that rambo effect of decimating hordes of ghosts seemed lost.

to be able to measure how much this thread alters the balance of Micr~$oft vs Linux boxes in offices throughout the world. :)

lets *not* confuse the two is what I meant to say.
I hope that comparison was a joke. I mean, Star Wars is fantasy. lets to confuse the two. Pinochets effects on peoples lives was horribly real.

Wired is carrying an article here.

So what has the RIAA achieved from this victory?

hatred and misunderstanding? Mingled with some Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt? Is that Microsoft you're wearing?
huh? lemon laws?
Still, hope this idea grows, we will all benefit
Car: Im sorry, you have exceeded maximum daily bandwidth. Please add credit to your BMW account.
Wife: what the hell? * wife checks logs..
at dinner that evening... Wife: Honey, who's this Tawnee Stone? She is using a hell of a lot of our expensive German ISP's bandwidth!
