This article is great but damnit if they dont get something wrong. Recorded TV can be played on any MS pc with media player, it does not have to be a media center pc. Third party utilities (free, third party utilities) have been around to re-encode the dvr-ms format into other formats (mpeg and wm9 available etc.) This whole linux pvr vs MCE is like bush vs Kerry. Neither are perfect and both sides like to sling mud, but really i'm seeing a lot more crap flying from the linux side, indeed this is the place for "news for nerds", "not fair and balanced".

Could you attatch a car battery to the same UPS? I know they have 6 volt, for motorcycles or something. But wouldn't those have a lot longer lifespan (err, die faster but be able to produce power for longer) and be a lot better choice by sacrificing portability, safety and environmental friendlyness? A funny funny story of installing zone alarm. I installed it at work, didn't reboot for a week, suddenly I can't login to the domain! argh! We had permision from IT to install it, we were guiny pigs.
I dont think value of virtual property will hold up. You can use it if you are frauded in a transaction regarding real money and virtual property but there was no exchange of legitimate goods.
The telephone fraud part is interesting though. But because its not legitimate goods it sounds equivilent to telling you girlfriend your not cheating on her. Or even more accurate say that you are a skinny hunk to lure someone out on a date with you when you are really a fat slob.
When I first started reading I was soo excited to hear how the game worked. I loved tradewars and never found anything that could replace it. But this was definatly it. His background of becomming a successfull trader using in game skills and social skills for quick advancement; very inspiring. When he loses his family of ships you really feel the pain he is going through. So bitter to go down in a ball of flames taking out your arch enemy but losing everything you had as well, a fitting end to a story, I would have stopped playing right then, but he wasn't done yet. Even when he decides to become truely evil the emotional trauma isn't aparent untill he recounts a fantasy of how his victims will attempt revenge.
"He would then start to pull something out of his pocket, and the entire LAPD SWAT team would open fire on him. The 9 millimeter hollow-point bullets would penetrate his soft flesh and expand, creating large breaches in each of his vital organs. After that disturbing recount you realize he is crazy enough to go through with it. The drama is intense as he earns his victims trust. You feel guilty for suspicous ones who require alot of coaxing, you smile and nod at the one jerk, the guy who has it comming to him.
When its all done I couln't belive it, I could never have done what he did. I wont sleep tonight thinking about poor HardHead. He lost his money but breaking his trust was the worst of all. Think about it, if Trazir gave him his money back, or gave him the full profits, Hardhead will still never be the same. Yes that irk was indeed cursed.
You run into the same problem in a large scale. I think alot of these "green" energies have drawbacks that are overlooked because they arn't seeing them in a large scale.
I just think its smarter to grow something that eats the carbon and use it for something other then burning. We already have alot of burnable fuel.
Right now biodiesel is expensive. I would suggest you skip the refinement. Get waste vegtable oil from your local resturant and run from that. This wont work for everyone, not even I eat enough french fries to get me to work. But a fraction can always leech off the system. My father actually has a couple of old mercedes diesel cars that i'm waiting for him to "convert" by adding a heater system to liquify the veg oil and a switch so the car can start on regular diesel untill the veg warms up.

But I think we would come up with some serious resource issues trying to grow enough corn to power our air conditioners in the summer.

Would be nice to find clean energy though. Honestly I vote we dump nasa and focus on making solar panels cheaper then paper. Really energy is the true currency of the earth. You can do anything with enough energy.
If you seem to be getting it from the same group of people make a honeypot but have some obvious hints once they get in, leave very little on the server and put the logs of their activity in an obvious place. Just be sure to isolate that machine from the rest of the network so if they do end up owning it they got no further then their failed attempt at your real machines.
