Doesn't sound as exciting once you read the article. Yes it uses LCD but only for the transparency, the picture is actually projected onto the screen from a projector. A mix of modern day technology. Glass that go black and transparent have been around for a while, the only different I could see is that this would go white so the projector has a nice screen to work from.

If you look at the PC magazine picture there is an new menu option called "My Home". This is a third party application for home automation, I saw this at the house and thought this was the coolest thing of all. From this app you can control the lights, create mood scenes, play the media center music through the whole house and control each rooms audio level. There is some awsome security stuff where you can watch all of your security cameras, arm your house and even watch the security zones fire off as you walk through the house. It was alot of fun turning on and off the lights in each room and they even had a cadillac out in the backyard where you can control the house from there too.

But I dont quite understdand what else you want the xbox to do? This extender kit requires a Media Center PC in your home already.

Home automation installations on average cost 80-200k (some projects go on forever and cost millions).

Understand that Microsoft will take sparkle to places Flash would never be allowed. Deep into the .net. I wont say if thats good or bad for sparkle, just that there are significant differences. (its certanly good for .net, html just doesn't work for lightweight interfaces.) But the big chink in Macromedia's armor is their flash player licensing schema. Windows CE does not come with flash. Its $100,000 for unlimited licenses for each OS version and hardware setup. So for emeded systems (telephone, fridge, house touchscreen) you really pucker up if you want to use flash. So to justify paying for a flash player, which is free on many other OS's and has less features then the free versions. Well, its enough to leave you screaming to sparkle.
