I think they've chosen AAC as their better format. Ogg's rise may be tied to the rise of Linux. Windows will have MP3, Macs will have AAC, and Linux will use Ogg.

At my school the CS majors started with Java, but us computer engineering majors started with C++.

At several schools Java is the language you start with in CS.
I remember going into a Mac retailer and playing Quake III and Return to Castle Wolfenstien, and my 15" iMac has sucked even more ever since.
