I work for an ISP. This is what the MPAA sends us when they find someone offering movies for download.
We have to comply, or be faced with possible enabling charges. Something we do not want to deal with.
The beautiful thing about it is, all they give up is an IP address. We run dhcp for 99% of our users, with a 48 hour lease time.
98% of the time the MPAA sends us the notifications long past that time frame. Nothing I can really do about it. I notify the user of that IP at the time, that they we aren't accusing them, but if they are, they may want to stop.
Here's the text of the letter, edited to protect the individuals involved.

Sure people get pissed when I run through Newark in the fast lane of the Garden State Parkway, but screw them, I'm loosin' weight.
Actually, my wife makes me eat weird healthy crap that often tastes like warm cardboard, and I walk as much as I can, which means I take the long way around the office for my 5th cup of coffee.
Flight is not a right. It's an option. If you choose to fly to a location, you accept that someone will see through your clothes. If you don't like it, take a train, boat or car.
Can you name 25 high quality closed source programs?
There are a ton of good quality open source programs. The difference is if you find an open source program that does 95% of what you want it to do, you can build the other 5% yourself. Try that with closed source software.
As for CVS, while not my favorite software versioning system, it does it's job. Your welcome to write a better one though.
And there are a ton of crap at download.com.
Oh sure... Awstats, BitTorrent, phpMyAdmin, webmin... etc. Yeah they're all "trash".
Is there crap on sourceforge... oh yeah, as well as dead projects. But the same can be said for closed source. The big difference as I see it is, if you find a dead open source project, you can pickup the ball and run with it. You can't with closed source.
Now we know where all the ex-KGB agents went. They now work for the RIAA.
It's a sad time when your afraid to develop something because it 'MIGHT' be used for illegal things.
Bastards!
It's great to teach others, but without the background, or the teaching of consequenses (I can't spell worth a damn), that could bite the school in the arse.
Don't worry about it. That cute girl next door is probably in a different country. Kind of like the interface, but people are not "In my local area"...
Actually your right... spamd crapped out about 5 minutes into the attack

To the Prince of Poop (The Anonymous Coward),
I'll even address your points one by one, and I'll use small words so you don't get confused.
1. It had a gigabit eth card on a 45 Mb DS3 2. Who said it used a single IDE drive? No one in their right mind would use IDE in a production environment. 3. Splitting the Queue works wonders, and yes the load was off the charts. I never said this machine is still running, or even how long it ran like that for. It ran like that for about an hour, we then blocked the spammer. 4. You also assume that this is the only machine on the network that handles mail? The load avaerage during that spammers time was well above 600. It also took about 36 hours to get all the mail out of the spool dirs.
So to the Arogant Prince of Poo, I say to thee... Get your head out of your ass and realize weird shit happens. Like I said, I've seen it, neither I nor the Box was very happy about it. And yes it was replaced 2 days later bye a dual proc box.
I find my 59c wallet-sized notepad more useful than my friend's Palm.
Ok... The wallet sized notepad for getting girls phone numbers I understand... What were you doing using your friends Palm? Don't you know he could go blind???
I seen EXIM handle over 750,000/hr on a little old 450mhz desktop with 265Mb ram. It is very easy to install and configure. We had it handling over 120 domains (5000+ users), with spamfiltering (spamassassin).
I like it. No it's not as configurable as sendmail, but nice and easy to deal with.
I've run Snort for a little over a year and a half. I love it, but this book will probably be out of date in a month or two. We've seen versions 1.6 thru 2.0 released within a years time. Some large changes were made along the way as well.
The basics won't change much, but I wonder.
I wonder if the book covers some of the great addons available like acid, barnyard, and snortsnarf?
"There were hundreds of thousands of people who downloaded this, and we know of only a handful of people who had the problem."
Only a few reported it, because everyone is used to MS patches breaking things. This "Critical Update" disabled wireless networking for us. I just rolled back the patches, and wait.
