OT, I know, but why, specifically, did you mention that the woman was Muslim? Your somewhat racial comment betrays your American heritage, Dread Pirate Roberts. Arr.
First off, asking questions about the law on Slashdot is a futile endeavour. The best that can happen is that you don't get any answers at all. The worst is that you do, but they're all wrong.
Talk about shooting yourself in the foot... next time, try not to preface a helpful reply with the above disclaimer:)
...is _Anachronix_The_Movie_ just the cutscenes from the game, or is this entirely new? The/. doesn't mention, and the server, of course, no longer exists... anyway, is this movie of any interest to someone who's completed the game? That's all, great show, Laslo.
It's news items like this that have sworn me off buying CDs altogether. The last CD I bought was by Scrap Arts Music in Vancouver -- they don't have any albums in stores, so I talked directly to the business manager and bought the CD straight from them. $28 CAD of pure profit went to the band itself.
News items like this piss off students like myself. If Canada allowed something like this, aka a huge multi-trillion lawsuit against four students for file sharing (something that the majority of people think is acceptable anyway, nevermind the legal ramification), you can best be sure that I'd be heading to China or Argentina.
And as for the recording "artists" who support the RIAA... I don't care how talented you fuckers are. If you support outrageous law suits like this, then you can forget my monetary support.
I think I'll wait until the price comes down to below, say, $5000 CDN. Oh, wait, can I buy the entire X-Files series with that much cash, a bigger TV, surround sound, and a whole freaking truckload of popcorn?
Maybe I'll pass. It's nice tech, but who has the cash to drop on the latest technology like this? (Bill Gates, plz STFU)
Your analogy is incongruous. You're comparing a product from six years ago to a product that is potentially two hundred years old. If I had a two hundred year-old OS, yeah, I might consider upgrading, but then again, Egypt Papyrus 2000BC still works, and it fits on a single vase!
The review is actually pretty bland, skimming the surface to linger on some of Eugenia's pet peeves.
I take it that the poster hasn't read any of Eugenia's reviews before. My friend, the review isn't about Mandrake 9.1, it's about EUGENIA! I've never read an objective review of ANYTHING on OSnews... unless you count Eugenia herself, in which case...
Seriously, Mandrake is probably just trying to play the number game, now that Redhat is upgrading to Linux 9 too.
(I've got karma to burn... -1 troll, bring it on... although I'm kinda hoping for a +5 informative...)
I take it that the reference to Mamoru Oshii, the writer of "Jin-Roh" and director of "Ghost in the Shell" was completely lost upon you. The original post was written in a satiric manner -- imagine Robin Williams imploring non-American actors to cease acting in films. Obviously, it's a joke.
Unless Oshii really *did* write it, in which case...

I seriously don't know why these things are cool. I mean, sure, if you were to add some LED case fans, flourescent lights, stuff like that it might be cool, but could you imagine how often you'll hafta dust the thing? I have enough asthmatic problems just opening my case; I don't want to wheeze every time I *see* it.
You want to pimp out your case? Just take a drill with different size drill bits, and create a funky crop circle on the front, or side, or whatever. Cheap solution.
For me, the whole purpose of comp gaming is a wide variety in accessories. If I want to play a game using a mouse, then I can do it. If I want to use the keyboard, then I can do it. If I want to use my Belkin Nostromo and a Logitech Cordless Optical mouse, then I can do it.
I don't want to be forced to use a single console for a game, on a standarised system, playing games that can't be modded (Palladium), written using proprietary medium formats (DVD+/-), and using a single, specific OS. The computer is the Nascar of electronic gaming; in my opinion, consoles are just "street legals."
Mod the parent up. One of the ONLY reasons I'm using Opera right now is the ability to go forward and backward just by using a RIGHT-LEFT click or LEFT-RIGHT click (respectively).
Then again, if MS integrated this into IE, I'd go right back to IE because of page compatibility, esp. for forms and secured areas.
Funny, I'm able to sleep because I've got a $5000 home security system and a German shepherd, but hey, whatever floats your boat, buddy...

...my dream has always been to own an underground house. Think about it: you climb down into the house via a ladder, the entire place is carved into rock, and there's a nuke shelter in the basement, around 1km below the surface.

...bringing services that rural people can really use...
Rural internet, eh? 90% of the population aged 10-30 are illiterate in Senegal -- the whole country, not just the rural areas. I think that they've got other priorities than communicating with the village down the road, such as wondering if that person upstream from you is taking a piss or just washing their clothes...
My wife was in Senegal in a few years, and after seeing this article, she commented, "Well, that might help the people in cities, but what about most of the people who live in rural areas?"
Besides, the people in this country can't afford Coke as a general rule -- even when they can, they return the glass (yes, glass!) bottle right away to get the deposit back and put the Coke in a plastic bag to drink. There are already enough cybercafes in Dakar; perhaps this cash should be going towards helping the little Muslim boys that run around the streets, forced into virtual slavery (via begging) in order to make a few bucks for their master.
If anybody has read anything about the history of the Battletech universe, WorkMechs, the predecessors to BattleMechs, were developed in the 21st century. Only 900 years until total Mechwarrior happiness!
DiskOnKey is a small, keychain-sized device that works like a portable USB disc drive; comes in 8, 16, 32, 64... 512 MB flavours. Completely plug and play in Windows 98b + There are other companies that make devices that are virtually identical. The nice thing about DOK is that it comes with its own security device, password protected in its tiny little flash BIOS.
This device *should* replace the floppy disc, if for no other reason than it's very convenient and very cool...
May the FBI be with you.

Ya, you're absolutely right -- and we all only need 640k of RAM too.
And you call yourself a nerd? For shame!

Just performed the price conversion... it's actually about $1700 CDN, or $1200 USD. *Still* cheaper to go nuts on X-Files and a new TV, at least...
Maybe I'll pass. It's nice tech, but who has the cash to drop on the latest technology like this? (Bill Gates, plz STFU)

Nerds --> Technology
Technology --> Japan
Japan --> Anime
It's pretty simple, actually.
Ah well, at least I can now upgrade to the new Laserdisc player that I've always wanted.
