# Who is John Gilmore?
I'm a civil libertarian millionaire eccentric. I started out in my teens as a middle-class programmer, worked my way up to senior technical jobs, then learned business in Silicon Valley. A combination of luck and skill brought me through several successful startup companies and gave me the opportunity to decide what I want to do, rather than what I need to do. I decided I want to work to keep individual freedom alive and thriving. So that's what I'm doing.
# First, I think we need to establish your take on terrorism. Is terrorism wrong?
It depends on the definition of terrorism. I like the CIA's definition of terrorism from Stansfield Turner's book "Secrecy and Democracy". It was something like, "violence or force directed at a small group of people with the intent to influence a much larger group". By that definition, the US government practices terrorism every time it arrests a medical marijuana smoker "because it sends the wrong message to kids". Is that wrong? I think so.
(Of course, the US government has revised its definition of terrorism since then, to make sure that nothing the US Government does can be considered terrorism by its new definition. Terrorism is now defined as force applied for political reasons by people other than the US Government.)
# Speaking of drugs, aren't you doing something about the drug war?
Yep, I'm in the middle of a ten-year, ten million dollar program to end the drug war. The pendulum is swinging on that issue, after decades of wasting billions of dollars and mangling hundreds of thousands of lives every year. Cancer patients get thrown in jail for smoking marijuana to keep from throwing up their chemotherapy meds. Entire countries get overrun and their leaders toppled by the US because the US doesn't like how those countries run their internal drug policies (like Panama, Nicaragua, and now Colombia). Factory workers get tested and fired based on their choice of weekend recreation, regardless of how well they do their job. Schoolkids learn right away that the government blatantly lies to them about the effects of drugs, and also learn that the government can search them at any time without any cause, raising a generation both cynical and resigned to corrupt authoritarianism.
The drug war is an ugly, corrupt set of policies that were bad when Nixon set it in motion to bash the hippie students who were hounding his ass out of office. It was ugly and corrupt when the medicine marijuana was outlawed early in the 20th century as a way to bash brown-skinned people coming up from Mexico. It was ugly and corrupt when San Francisco passed the first ordinance criminalizing drug use in the 1890s; it outlawed the medicine opium, and was used to bash Chinese immigrants who'd come to build the railroad and then settled in Chinatown. Now 90% of the people serving time for drugs are black or Latino, even though white and asian Americans use drugs in the same proportions as blacks and Latinos. Drug warriors encourage parents to turn in their kids and kids to turn in their parents. The United States is a source of inspiration...yet the people who live here can't appreciate that simple fact.
Despite my unnerving to hear Jesus Gospel from Bible thumpers, someone said to me; "Remove the moat from your eye before you try to remove the moat from your neighbor's eye."
Well, I looked around and thought the conditions in America should be better. Is that why America is such a rude country, because we don't accept ourselves below a standard that has been indirectly defined? Does not Social Services hold people to standards of living acceptible to people of other countries, yet Americans are often scolded for not upholding luxuries around us? When I was growing-up through middle-school, if your lunch did not have corporate advertisements on the packaging then you were often looked upon as un-cool or a "plain" or Amish-like child.
The people at the United States have been raised in such a way to not consider they have any problem with their lifestyle that it is so expensive and high a standard compared to people in other countries, yet somehow the military of the United States gets sent to help other countries to improve their conditions as America? Is there stifled reason for all that "Infadel" name-calling thrown at USA and its posterity for ruining other countries by bring our "rich" standard of living to them before they can travail their own casualties of our life-style such as loss of --- respect of neighbors, loss of privacy, loss of -name-the-whatever-trespass-?
America needs to recognize that its vision of the people in other countries and at foreign states can't be understood until America cures its own infirmaties.
So I say to America as what those jackass Bible thumpers annoy unto me, "remove the moat from your eye first!"
None benefit from technology until they can sustain their own health and living conditions. India needs better housing and agriculture first. To my current knowledge, there are also children starving at India and we can't send our process foods to help because not even rich/processed food will stay in a starving child's stomach.
Does India not know that patience will bring technology to them in least expense? Please wait, let the people and corporations at these united States of America pay for the R&D and we'll let you know when the technology is versatile, popular, and in the bargain-bin.
The people of India are our brothers and sisters; love thy neighbor, and remind them that Pakistan is their neighbor.
Microsoft Windows NT 3.5 was ported to Alpha platform by programmers from Digital Equipment Corporation (hereinafter DEC) and it was not true 64bit processing. It didn't allow a long int, and that is the easiest example I can give you. It also didn't support as much RAM as it would have in 64bit mode. DEC's programmers also caused a small intellectual property dispute by actually using much of DEC's VMS code to compliment porting Microsoft Windows NT 3.5 unto Alpha, to much blessings and praise from Microsoft's high-end customers for its verry quick GUI performance complimentary to the excellent floating-point performance known of Alpha, and for this Microsoft was verry angered. NT version 4.0 had the VMS inclusions removed and that port was governed more-so by Microsoft. DEC was one of the first external porting groups to see Microsoft's code. Although WikiPedia says there is not a port of Microsoft Windows 2000 to the Alpha; that is a half-lie; it was not officialy released for Windows 2000 to be ported, and some of our friendly geek Microsoft employees leaked the Alpha platform version of Windows 2000 to the public. Even Microsoft knows that merit of its software existing on a high-end architecture improves its portfolio for contracts on super-computers.
Alpha died in market name, but it will forever have its technology in AMD and Intel CPUs until the year 2010!
Before Compaq was bought by HP, AMD was licensed to some Alpha technology. AMD's Athlon and all the AMD motherboard chipsets are using the EV6 bus architecture. It is a proven fact, via a rumor that has recently been proven to have some truth, that HP is also sitting on Alpha technology that if Itanium fails again it will manufacture the chips to keep its contracts.
Itanium is at release version two, while a mere 2-year-old EV7 outperforms it! There is a EV8 Alpha design, but they will not manufacture it. Everyone is pushing hard towards Intel's Itanium. It is saddening that AMD and Intel are jumping through sewers and over slime pits just to reach a shadow of 64bit computing that Alpha had attained over 5 years ago when implemented by Digital Equipment Corporation!
I have my Alpha Ruffian 164UX 633MHz system, with a Radeon 9100 XTasy 128MB PCI graphics accelerator and 3 GigaBytes PC100 ECC RAM, and to this day it pushes excellent OpenGL framerate for Tenebrae Quake as well as provide and excelly 64bit environment.
Just because an architecture is announced to be "dead" doesn't mean it will die quickly. Alpha hardware is manufactured without inexpensive components. I have not a single Electrolytic Capacitor on my Alpha's motherboard. Look at all the cheap motherboards built for Intel Pentium and AMD Athlon hardware. Alpha is excellent hardware being replaced by a crap architecture that has always been a decade behind.
I laugh at the temperature and energy costs of Intel and AMD owners.
Can you believe this shit? I'm verry eerie around women, especialy ones that look more masculine than I! I mean, look at those hamachi nachos on her chest! They just wanna jump out and strangle me! I think I'ld have better luck fending off an attack from the Almighty Goatse.
Glad to help you out with some information on ATI's drivers: they are designed for the "Prophesional" visualization developers in mind; CAD, 3D Modeling, etc. ATI continualy conveys to the public and private that their unsupported closed-source Linux drivers, consisting of the GLX implementation and X server (IIRC) are designed for the FireGL models of their graphics accelerators which were near identical and compatible to the retail consumer available models with exception that they are of'course furlongs much more expensive.
Please don't ask me why ATI doesn't properly engineer their drivers for the consumer chipsets; it just so happens that the Fire GL Z1 and X1 models of ATI's graphics accelerators are the new hotness of "High End" shenanigans and their ilk. I remember back in the day that my Elsa Gloria XL with 40MB of blessed EDO RAM was the New Hotness and "SHab00m High End", but alas it is a cadillac with a long-lived useless soul in terms of recent openGL improvements beyond ARB openGL spec 1.1.
ATI can do better, but their way of you paying for it is to go visit CmdrTaco's come-on-baby-light-my-fire-department to purchase a US $800.00 FirGL ZX1 revb T-2016 graphics accelerator.

*END OF TROLL*
Seriously,
The ants will all be dead in less than 3 months. A couple reasons come to my mind. The heat from the computer they are installed in, combining with any atmospheric moisture, will cause mold to form and it will kill the ants quickly. The next reason is with all the radiation, including electromagnetic and light, the ants will always be aggrivated and this will shorten their lifetime. The final reason is that all things that sting you are actualy female; yes, an ant's stinger is actualy the female's ovipositer that has been modifed with a barb to inject a complex protein into its enemy. This might not mean much, that Uncle Milton sends you non-fertile female ants, but the only reason ants actualy live as long as they do is because they come in contact with the primary fertile female (QUEEN, or MOTHER) and a feromone released by the primary female suppresses some biological reactions that can cause a somewhat ant-anarchy.
So, there you have it. Uncle Milton is a cheapskate selling little children bad girly ants and doesn't want to giver you a freshly-mated queen. Why do we need a queen? Because, to run our million-dead-ant-802.11?-webserver-march through our neighborhoods, we need a lively supply of ants. Haven't any of you geeks played SimAnt before? I rest my case.
Science Note: If you want to start a real ant colony, goto a desert or woodland area and look for ants. You usualy see ants all of the same size, wheather carpenter ants or red ants. Carpenter ants, of a mature colony, have a dimorphic caste system; meaning a carpenter ant colony will have various ants of differing bodies providing different services while a red ant colony looks like a bunch of ants that look the same and do different things. To find a *fresh* queen, look for the standard-sized ants and note the size of their thorax. A queen that has recently mated and made its own colony will ACTUALY be outside foraging for food to prepare for a quick hatching of stunted/unsually small foragers/worker ants. Look for an ant with an exceptionaly large thorax (because queens needed to fly around as they mated, and that's hard to drag your big fat bitch abdomen while little pee wee king did his thing). OK, that's your mission. I just don't suggest catching Carpenter ants because if they get into your house, they are MUCH more difficult to catch than red ants because of a MUCH higher metabolism. Carpenter ants range anywhere from densly shrubbed deserts to sparsely shrubbed forests around rocky mountains; Carpenter ants prefer living around root systems of trees or actualy in trees, or subteranean level of a shrub or grass. Red Ants always require sandy soil. Also of note, Horned Lizards prefer to eat Red Ants, primarily because they don't spray folic acid at you as do Carpenter ants and because red ants are found in the same sandy environments mostly.
Reason I think this project sucks: Honestly, Uncle Milton is a poaching asshole. I, myself, am accused of poaching and Uncle Milton is a barbaric raider of ant society, stealing females and sold into a slavelike environment of rodent children leaving antfarms in direct sunlight. Only a real entomologist, like me, has a brain to make an ant server; and I choose honeyants.

1) SCO's bluffing until the bitter end. There is no copyright infringement, and everyone in high level positions at SCO knows it. SCO's market exit strategy (to be bought by IBM) backfired in a huge way, and there is no way to repair the damage. If SCO backs off now, it will be destroyed by the SEC for gross negligence towards the shareholders. Everyone at SCO knows that IBM is going to destroy SCO, and are merely trying to hold off the inevitable for as long as possible.
2) There is no copyright infringement. When the trial starts (and it's a given that this will get to trial considering #1 above), SCO will have to produce something (and I guarantee it will be manufactured ala Microsoft). At that point, the jig will be up. SCO doesn't actually want to go to trial, but now the company has painted itself into a corner and will -have- to go to trial.
Sincerily,
Alpha died in market name, but it will forever have its technology in AMD and Intel CPUs until the year 2010!
Buy an Alpha now, on eBay.
Sincerily...

Savvy?
tool my ass.
the second nerd tool, next to the flesh-light.
Sadly, no; although this woman just may be worth asking given her predicament.
Imagine... an RFID on each ant, also implanted with a dead-ant web server, and then you can release them in your neighborhood to sabotage everyone's wireless 802.11? data by re-directing all pictures to http://goatse.cx.
I REST MY computer CASE.
GIVE ME KARMA OR GIVE ME DEATH!
"So you're the fastest typist on slashdot..."
{cowboy harmonica is heard in the distance}
[both the troll and the slashdot advocate approach eachother]
*BANG*
[but the troll drew faster than the advocate ever saw]

"Dont feed the trolls in town son. Leave your grits at home, Bill. Don't feed the trolls in town..."
How can you need crisco? I've seen you and think you aren't morbidly fat.

CHEESE AND RICE! HOT DAMN THAT'S DISGUSTING!!
NOTE TO SLASHDOTTERS: Do not order viagra from the internet...they give you more than your money is worth...and that is money needed for plastic surgery to regress what has grown too large...
Well, Jaki...This computer chair needs some modification for you. May as well mount the keyboard and CRT boom on your dick 'cause you obviosly you haven't been able or found a need to sit on chairs. HOT DAMN your mellons are huge!
No, and for two primary reasons:
:(
1) SCO's bluffing until the bitter end.
This is a great big "OOPS!" on SCO's part.
Mohammad Saheed Al-Sahaf!
Can you hear me n?^H Oh...
I agree, IBM will pay with the non-virgin blood of a hundred kernel copyers^Hdevelopers! Damnation to those ugly terrorists! Because they are not Linux developers, they are terrorists; right on that!
(notice how whatever they say, the truth is the exact opposite)
Now if only SCO would make my day and say all Linux developers are ugly... It doesn't correlate with the average Linux developer being a virgin, neither does it explain why SCO is in Utah -- Utah being the world leader in men on average having marriage^H legal sex (oxymoron?) with more than 10 women.
OFFTOPIC: By the way, anyone got any mormon porn? And, if a mormon man has more than one wife, does that mean all his wives are married to eachother as well and while he is not horny or is sleeping they may band together for a all-female strap-on sex orgy? I'm beginning to like Utah by the second! Count me in! I bet SCO knows what it's smoking, how can tat be wrong, eh?
If it weren't for the lubricated rubber gloves on the hands of Microsoft Windows users, Linux may have died a long time ago...
Yes, a bug was found in their software!
