Gamestop should just change policy and practice to make it easier for the consumer. People should not have to have a specialty method or use a guide to get the most out of the experience.
I went to buy a fan for my PC tower, and I couldn't find a single fan at multiple computer chains that didn't have a light on it. Austin TX USA.
Also their example machines they sell look so goofy with clear side panels and rainbow colored power supply fans.
Maybe Intel needs to sell off their Itanium division like they did with the ARM division. Concentrate on the area the are best in. Hopefully they learned some lessons from Itanium / IA64; like they did with P4 / Netburst.
I knew a group of people (roughly 30) who attempted to play Shaadowbane after release. All from different gaming backgrounds, EQ, DAoC, AC, AO, D2, DS, NWN, etc. The game seemed to hit a wall in advancement within the first month of play. Most quit after 30days, only 1 person out of a group of 30 lasted longer than 90 days.
The game was not good when compared to already establshed games in the genre. Then more advanced games like WoW came out and that just made Shadowbane's already bad situation worse.
I suspect Nintendo is going to do well in Sales and profits after releasing the Revolution and online services.
As long as the downloadable games are cheap and the console does release as the lowest priced console this year.
Such good news.
I just see that the other indexing servers availble are just going to raise in popularity and replace the razorbacks postition at the top of the lists.
Also can't they just change the location of the razorbacks?
He doesn't say much about graphics, except that it is about the same on both PC and consoles, considering nvidia and ati are on both sides, this isn't real suprising.
I do like that he says that the console cpu numbers are inflated.
Nothing will stop Sony and Microsoft making their own Revolution type controller, just like both companies did analog and rumble after the N64 created it.
People need to stop focusing so much on the controller.
In my opnion 3dmark scores should not be considered in hardware reviews. I have seen video cards get low 3dmark scores, yet play all the latest games out of the box with out problems with speed. I take actual game benchmarks more in to consideration.
A lot of people in the USA aren't Christian and celebrate xmas. I guess most people shopping at the malls this holiday season for gifts were not at Church on Sunday.
Can't ignore Dreamcast

How Xbox Happened

Article doesn't mention working with Sega on the Dreamcast. Which in my opinion lead Microsoft in to making the Xbox (because the Dreamcast failed). It had the experience just a few years before launching the Xbox. http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/1998/May9 8/Segagmpr.mspx
"We have worked very closely with Sega for nearly two years to optimize Windows CE to provide the services and level of performance necessary for the exacting development requirements of video games," said Harel Kodesh, general manager, consumer appliances group at Microsoft. "We are tremendously excited by the opportunities the Dreamcast system offers to traditional video game developers and the PC gaming community."
I consider the game industry PC, Consoles, and hand helds. PC games like world of Warcraft have strong Sales. Consoles like the new xbox360 has sold well. Hand helds like the Nintendo DS has sold well. I don't see any signs that things are heading toward a downward spiral. What I will say is it takes large budgets to make most modern games, this may balloon up and explode at some point, but I don't think it will crash the industry, it will just force game developers to be more innovative, and hopefully end the yearly updates and releases of games that arn't much diffferent from the previous years and games (EA sports and MMORPG's as examples).
It sounds a lot like these developers haven't even seen a dev kit for the revolution. Which to seems odd to me if we are going to see a system in roughly 6months, and the 3rd party dev's don't have the dev kits; then how are they going to have decent launch titles? Maybe they need to interview developers who are going to have launch titles, but maybe big N has these people locked down on what they can say about the new system.
SOE is trying to save the game. The way they are going about it though is risky and, just may kill it off sooner.
My idea is that they could have split up there populations in 2 parts, 'old way' and 'new way' (NGE). This way you retain the subscriptions who don't want major change, and keep those that do want the change (if they like the 'new way'). They may be able to attract new subscriptions if the NGE catches on.
Now the overhead of maintaining 2 server games with 1 client may be a nightmare and redundant, but at least you may keep the subscriptions you already have.
With how popular WoW is I'm suprised SOE is even putting any effort in SWG. They need to get a new game that can compete and get some subscriptions back from WoW.
it is easier for the companies to have a flat fee for monthly subscriptions. If they did meter, it would require more work for the company, now that they have to track time per subscription, and send varied amounts to different subscribers.
Players who play a lot of hours may get screwed in a metered subscription. They may end up paying higher than the flat fee because they are on more than the average player.
I like paying one fee, and getting unlimited play time for the month. If I feel I don't play the game enough I cancel the subscription.
Will this encourage more people to put their video content on the iTunes store?
Of course it will. There is a market for video content; people will see this is another avenue of making money, getting more exposure, etc. Why am I willing to pay more for music than I would for video?
People will listen to a popular song many times a day. People don't do the same with TV/movies. The entertainment value of most TV shows and movies is gone after 1 viewing. The entertainment value of music seems to carry on much longer.
Use to get scared in the dungeons especially when your torch was running out, then getting attacked by ghouls and skeletons.. also the destroyed city was creepy.
Even the PS2 wasn't 100% backwards compatible with all the PS1 games. If the PS3 plays 75%+ of PS2 games and 50%+ of PS1 games, in my opinion that would be 'ok' with me. Even if Sony only hit those %'s it will already be much better than xbox360 compatibility with xbox games. I'm holding out on my opinion of Nintendo comparisons because they've only said it will play gamecube games, and haven't had any words on price for playing other past generation games (hopefully it will be free).
As far as the price I think PS3 will come out high, but by the holidays it should come down, as long as it comes out 6months before the holidays.
All this is just opinion with no real basis rather than what I preceive as reality.

Nintendo doesn't take any loss when someone buys the Wii.
If I owned an as/400, i/z series server, maybe this would be exciting news as a future upgrade.
I was hoping they would include more Nintendo owned charcters like Kid Icarus! /silly
You would think IBM would make their PPC chip their main choice or force them to improve PPC to match their competitors.
Look at TV ratings NFL vs NHL
Sales of Coke vs 7up
Cable Boxes, DVR/Tivos boxes, DVD players, Amplifiers, battery rechargers, and probably more.

It shouldn't matter if it was in an Atari 2600 case, the hardware inside was closer to Wii spec, and not gamecube spec.
I am suprised Shadowbane lasted this long.
