  1. Re:Definitely! on Is the Seeking of Lost Skills/Arts a Hacking Analog? · · Score: 1

A few years ago I couldn't build computers, today I've built over five of them. A few years ago I couldn't handle Linux, today I am learning almost every day.

If I want to do something, I'm not afraid of doing it. About a month ago I bought a bike which in order to save some money I had to put together myself. Granted, a bike may not be a car, but I learnt how to put it together and as a result I know how to fix it when annoyances arise.

I don't own a car now, but if I had one, I probably would try to maintain it myself. I have an older brother I can turn to in matters concerning cars, boats, engines etc; a farily experienced friend is in my opinion the best source for beginner information. Maybe why these skills are further down on the "l33t" list is because a car isn't necessary anymore. At least not here in European cities, maybe in the United States. A fair amount of my friends don't even have a licence.

On a side note: taking a drivers licence is for the most part a painful experience in Sweden. I takes a lot of time, and it costs a lot of money.

Now that I've played VC for soo long I recently replayed GTA3 and realized that VC is so much better in so many ways. I've played GTA3 on the PC, and found the experience to be somewhat dissapointing. GTA3 and VC was developed for the PS2 and should be played on the console. They might get the VC port to work better on the PC than GTA3 did though.

What? No ISP I've come across actually supports servers. They might allow them, but I'm still the one responsible for maintaining them. They could block port 80, 21, 22, 25 etc. but everyone can run a server on a different port.

I've been on a permanent IP DSL connection for over two years now, and I'm allowed to run whatever servers I want as long as they are non-profit. Why would I want to find some hosting when I run what I want and nothing less on my own old AMD friend?

And try to put an alpha-transparent PNG on a page and you'll soon find out that IE for absolutely no apparent reason need specific IEML code to show this transparency. This is why I do not use IE, and why I don't want it on my hard drive eating space.

On the user end, have you noticed that when surfin' around annoying windows pop up all the time?

I've tried just about every browser available today and Internet Explorer is among the lowest ranking browsers.

ALL PCs have floppies? No, none of mine do, and not many of my friends have computers with a floppy-drive. A CDRW is really cheap these days, and you get more for your money.

I would be extremely happy if Enterprise got cancelled, and it should. Even the execs have hinted cancellation. Star Trek _needs_ new producers and most of all: new writers. Enterprise is basically the same thing as TNG and VOY, but with different actors and settings.

Whenever I watch Enterprise I get so bored that I fire up some computer game and play while the episode is on. In the end, I find that I haven't missed anything at all. Now, the time conspiracy might be exciting and all, but it's poorly executed.

I would cancel Enterprise. Then we could bury Star Trek with dignity instead of having it in the barn, sucking all life out.

Uhm, first of all, it will use WMA, which in my opinion is an inferior format. In my ears WMA has always sounded crap. Second of all, any lossy audio compression format is unacceptable at that price. Anyway using a lossy compression scheme (although ogg is superior) to compress a previously losssy compressed file will result in an even greater quality degradation.
