I know it's popular to take a dig at McDonald's, but to be fair, the smart people don't always want to work in fast food. You may have come across a particularly stupid cashier, at which point, see if you can catch her in a quick change scam. If you can, alert the manager.
I visited Australia in 2000 for (among other things) the lunar eclipse that came within seconds of the theoretical maximum. Although I was rather impressed with the lack of pennies (do coins have the same nicknames down there as the US?), the $1 and $2 coins usually made up the weight. It was a wash as I figured. Though $1 bills are so prevalent over here, if people would fully switch to coins, rather than having these wannabe dollar coins that no one in practice actually uses, I imagine that would make many vending machines easier to manufacture, as they would no longer need a bill slot.
I seem to remember the coins being metal? And you had paper money for $5 and up; has that disappeared in the last 5 years?
the bit about Southern France made it believeable for me. Well, that and the fact that I read it on the 2nd. And government in general seems like it might be just stupid enough to pass something like this...
At least for WoW, people often find out, and people let it be known not to buy anything from the farmers. Angelfamily was a farming guild on Mannoroth, alliance side. Alliance didn't help when horde tried to kill them, and they were well-known as farmers. They disappeared from the server a few months back.
I've found Dragons of Viet are the same way. They play like total idiots and spend all day in the same place. Unless someone shows up and starts tagging mobs before they can; then they log off, as it apparently isn't worth it.
Third link: can one of the lawyers in the crowd tell me why that's a defense? "We find the defendent not guilty by reason of Grand Theft Auto." If you're put on trial for a crime, and it's proven you did it, aside from self-defense, who gives a damn why you did it?
As I see it, there should be two ways out of a guilty verdict: jail, if you were in your right mind; and a psych ward, if you weren't.
"Realms A-D will be down for 6AM to 9AM PST, unless they're high pop, in which case they will end at 10AM. Realms E-I will be down 12PM to 4PM, except medium and lower, which will be done by 3:15. J-O will be down during peak playing hours, so suck it. P-S will be down...."
Mike: Hey, Joe? Joe: Yeah Mike? Mike: Someone just got stabbed. Joe: Hmmm.... we should probably blame it on video games. Mike: Nah, I don't think so. Everyone else is doing that. And some people say there's no proof? Joe: Well, how about D&D? That's kinda like video games, and it's based on the occult, and Satan is bad. Mike: Yeah, that might work. Let's go with that.
Wow, you have some very subtle language there. Yes, it "can be" a hate crime, and it "can be" more serious, but it has to be determined that it was a hate crime.
The distinction much more often made is whether a murder is first, second, or third degree.
I'm sick of Bill and his lies, who gives a fuck if he says Longhorn will stop teenage pregnancy, cure world hunger and get every geek laid within a week of buying it.
I believe there is a limit under which you are not required to charge, and I think that limit is $15. I suggest you try ordering for about 8 people and see if you are asked to sign.
You can sometimes go under that limit in a sit-down restaurant, but they need the receipt more for the tip than the signature.
Out of curiosity, is this the sort of innovative invention that the slashdot crowd would agree is worthy of a patent? It's hardware, something you can physically manufacture, OS-agnostic, and there doesn't seem to be anything already like it. At least not that I'm aware of.
No, there are designs that are logical and designs that aren't. My favorite example (one of several) of how Windows makes no sense is the file list in dialog boxes. The files are arranged in a vertical list, but the list scrolls horizontally. Why?
I'm a fan of BBEdit myself (Mac). Granted, most of my work is in PHP, and the custom-colored syntax highlighting helps, but even so, grep-based multi-file find and replace and "Search Selection Only" are two of the features I most enjoy in it.
I never liked the theme song. Didn't require an orchestra, required a singer. I could swear I'd heard the song before, too. Maybe it was written to sound familiar.
I managed to watch the first season; maybe the second. Most of my dorm at the time watched it. But it isn't very captivating. Reduce the max warp speed, take out transporters, allude to the prime directive of the other series, and you basically have the other series. This one offered nothing new or interesting.
Star Trek has never really been about social commentary. Well, maybe the original series was in a couple of places. TNG was a fan of pop psychology. I missed out on DS9 thanks to poor and shifting timeslots. Voyager was unique in the doctor, the "nowhere near home" premise, and the 2-crew origin, but ultimately, the series completely forgot how it started. In none of those series did they need to stop and the end of the episode and tell people "you need to be more tolerant of people with AIDS." Thanks, but I'm sure I can find my own copy of Aesop's fables.
When I had first heard about Enterprise and how it was taking place before the other series, I had hoped for a series without universal translators, shields (AKA polarizing hull plating), and all the comforts of life the cronologically later series enjoyed. But for the most part, it's the same setting, just without any restrictions on how it needs to fit in with the Star Trek canon.

I bet you also correct people who use Xerox as a verb or Kleenex to mean tissue.
Use dictates meaning, not vice versa.
God, I hate atheists...

Your choices are:
"Realms will be down from 6AM to 10AM PST."
"Realms A-D will be down for 6AM to 9AM PST, unless they're high pop, in which case they will end at 10AM. Realms E-I will be down 12PM to 4PM, except medium and lower, which will be done by 3:15. J-O will be down during peak playing hours, so suck it. P-S will be down...."

...where the object is to die at the end.
So where did he learn suicide?
Are you going to complain about EULA's too? You paid for the software, and an agreement between you and the seller restricts what you can do with it.
I'm sick of Bill and his lies, who gives a fuck if he says Longhorn will stop teenage pregnancy, cure world hunger and get every geek laid within a week of buying it.
Now there's a trick.
I usually use my iPod in my car radio.
Last I checked, portable FM radios were pretty damn cheap anyway.
Huh? I'm pretty sure Jell-O is still trademarked. The other maker I'm aware of, Royal, calls it a gelatin dessert on their packages.
Under which you are not required to *sign*. Doh, I've been up for.... um, over 20 hours.

Actually, if YOU read the post, you'll see that he was pretty liberal with the Star Wars references.
Wishing I had mod points... I'd give you +1, pwned parent comment.
Um... I think you're confused. The URL up top says slashdot.org, not fark.com

I thought Intel and AMD were compatible? You need separate boards for them? Suddenly, the screams of "Macs use proprietary hardware" make less sense.

Kids took guns to school for 200 years in this country without turning them on one another.
Can anyone who grew up in the 50's tell me what percentage of children brought guns to school?
GTA... GTA... GTA...
I wasn't aware this comprised the entire video game industry...
If the GTA series is somehow eliminated, will Jack Thompson have a reason for living?
