In my copy of WS_FTP (ver 7 pro?), downloading a file through a symlink results in huge >100 "percent done" numbers.
Also an installation program managed to copy 102% of the files.
Xp just died once, citing kernel fault or something and displayed the message "Shutting down in 30 seconds(with a nice countdown). Please save all work." Of course, I couldnt use the keyboard or mouse to save anything.
Rather than hunting down the smallest elf, we would prefer you execute the largest elf. Doing so would help reduce our horrible obesity problem. Secondly, we damand humane executions, ie lethal injection. your proposed methods seem more like electrocution which was outlawed in the Really Tiny Creature War Crimes pact of 1982 along with inadvertantly stepping on us. Did you ever think about who's going to make your next generation.13 micron processors if you kill us?
true, but a small elf still takes up less memory once loaded from disk.
though with 512mb+ in todays systems, people can even afford to run more than one office Xp app.
Just think of the fuel savings after they throw all those 30 pound typewriters overboard! Plus the typewriters will provide valuable marine habitats. Just hope the MS bloat doesnt sink the ship.
In the US, these devices just dont seem to have the samne appeal as in Japan or other countries. At the price, these are just novelty geek items which will never take off. If you want video conferencing, just use a laptop, a high speed connection and a $50 webcam.
It's very nice that you can write all these games with XUL and mox, but not a challenge. So here's my challenge:
Write an API that is so incompetant that no one can write tetris for it. Shouldn't be hard, just patch windows.
Anyone ever try Galeon ?
Galeon is a browser for Gnome, based on Mozilla. Fast enough for me, plugin support, gestures, etc. I love it! The windows world is still lacking a really good browser. Phoenix is getting there; it's step up from anything else I've seen, but it's still not quite there.
Sure consoles have great games, great graphics and fast dedicated hardware but they dont have keyboards or mice. How do you play quake or any other complex game with a controller? The flow is disrupted with strange keypad combinations or menu selections. With a PC you hit a key and something happens. And you have a lot of mobility since youre not holding a pad. Ill never go console until the interface is improved.
Does Kroupware include a steamy bathroom? If so, this adds a whole new value to the program. I've really been wanting to remodel. With this I even get all the plumbing and wiring diagrams!!
"writing the decoder was very simple. All it did was rotate a "needle" around a given center at some predefined angular velocity"
of course! that is so simple!! this guy is acting as though he has some magic program to pull the exact topology of a record out of a digital image. these images are 2D, you need 3D to extract sound. and keeping the "needle" inside the track on the image? very simple...provided you have a time machine in the garage and grabbed some advanced image recognition technology from a few years hence.... how about some valdity checking on/.
I believe RadioShack has contracted with Compaq, and Compaq falls under the black cloud of MS control. Wal-Mart used to sell Hp, dont know if they still do.. It's not really odd. Wal-Mart is about low-prices and high profit. It doesnt get much better than selling generic PC's with a free OS. I remember that Wal-Mart started selling boxed Mandrake & Redhat sets a few years ago-back with RH 5.2, so they must think there is some future in linux. I think some consumers might, as was said earlier, buy a box and wonder why thier favorite games don't work. Wal-Mart should make it clear that those games aren't going to run to avoid dissappointment and anti-linux feelings. Perhaps they could bundle some Loki games..
Wal-mart is playing mother. Although it's not censoring the content of the magazine, it is censoring the cover which is what influences people. There are some things that simply appeal to people and magazine publishers use that to sell copy. Wal-mart is now saying that certain things are "bad" and trying to rewrite morals. And this isn't some public service to improve America's morality, it's just so they don't get complaints from some good Christian about what her kids are seeing while standing inline. They are forcing the same values and ideals on everyone. Clear controlling censorship.

There's and interesting, informal dicussion group for this kind of thing at space-elevator@yahoogroups.com

What kind of an effect do you think open source will have in terms of impact on society and general perceptions of computers?
