If 'no child is left behind', and you're only as fast as the slowest part, well... you can see where this is leading our kids. I always said: "no child left behind == no child gets ahead".
A lot of people are suggesting that this is happening because the laptops are made in China. I doubt that this is a factor, because as other people mentioned they would need to ban most other PC manufacturers as well. I think the real concern is the Chinese government's involvement in this, due to their part ownership of Lenovo. From the article:
A Chinese government agency owns 28 percent of Lenovo, while IBM still has about a 13 percent stake in the company.
If Lenovo was a 100% private entity, I doubt this would have been an issue.
Except that I can easily fit a Blackberry into my pocket, where as I'd look pretty ridiculous carrying the Origami around in my pocket.
The Blackberry is so successful because it does a few things very well, and is very portable... on the other hand, it seems the Origami aims to do everything, but unfortunately probably won't do them as well or simply. Microsoft seems to have no understanding of the "sometimes less is more" philosophy.
Yes and I'm scared that we're approaching a Christian induced period of "believe in what makes you feel good" instead of "believe in what is correct, true and accurate."
Someone on Fark posted this a couple days ago. I found it to be a very insightful article, and really points out the problems with Christianity in America currently: The Christian Paradox
Quote:
America is simultaneously the most professedly Christian of the developed nations and the least Christian in its behavior. That paradox... illuminates the hollow at the core of our boastful, careening culture.
I just found out the other day that you can hit apple+space to quickly switch back and forth between the last two used keyboard layouts. It comes in pretty handy sometimes.
I agree about having the Dvorak layout with QWERTY keyboard shortcuts being extremely useful. Learning a new layout for typing wasn't too difficult, but for some reason I find it very hard to change my CMD+x,c&v keys. This leads me to a question: I've switched primarily to Dvorak at work as well on my Windows box, and I have yet to find an equivalent Dvorak+QWERTY CTRL for Windows. Does such a thing exist?
I don't know... I've been in NY with a Maine license for awhile now, and every time I'm ID'd at the store when buying beer, the manager has to come over to inspect my ID & verify it's legit. I've had a couple bars refuse to let me in because they thought it was fake.
So, if the RealID thing means I can get my beer quicker, I'm for it. Hell, I'll vote in favor of a law using babies as alligator bait if it means I get beer easier!
You may install memory (RAM, VRAM), and other customer-installable parts without voiding your Apple warranty.
...However, if in the course of adding an upgrade or expansion product to your computer, you damage your Apple computer (either through the installation of, or incompatibility of the upgrade or expansion product), Apple's warranty will not cover the cost of repair, or future related repairs.
Seems pretty clear to me. You're free to upgrade the memory, but you're doing so at your own risk.
I have a feeling that in general, the people who you feel are to ignorant to grasp the idea of what firefox is, and what the ad is trying to portray are not people who read the NY Times on a regular basis.
While it may not be quite as advanced, in particular with the corporate uses, Panic has a li'l app, also for OS X called desktastic which allows you to draw directly on the screen. Just as Pixar's tool, this features Wacom tablet support, variable line widths and an eraser function. The drawings can be saved for later use.
It's really quite a bit of fun! Not to mention available to Joe User.
Researchers at The University of Western Ontario have found one drink of beer or wine provides equivalent increases in plasma antioxidant activity, which helps prevent the oxidization of blood plasma by toxic free radicals that trigger many aging diseases, such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease and cataracts.
There is a great Simpsons map for Wolfenstein ET. It's not as complete or as detailed as the map here, but it's still pretty cool to be running around through the Simpson house, armed to the teeth!
In the 'bump test track' video they compare it against both the base Lexus as well as with a Porsche, to give a sporty 'hard' suspension comparison. The base Lexus' suspension does seem awfully soft howver.
I do wonder about the extra power requirements for them though. I would imagine that a stock battery would not be sufficient to drive four of those.
Also, if anyone hasn't heard of a decent NC-17 movie since Showgirls...
I've heard good things about Bernardo Bertolucci's The Dreamers, though I haven't seen it myself yet. For what it's worth, Ebert & Roeper both gave it two thumbs up.
How does it work? [...]Four emitters send infrared radiation from the front of the unit, the built-in camera detects infrared signals bouncing back
from reflective material placed on the head...
Ha! And they all laughed at your tin-foil hat! You'll show them!
I concur. I found an old G80 series Cherry keyboard here at work a few months ago, and I've been using it ever since. The keys have just the right amount of bounce to them, allowing me to type much quicker than with the one I previously used. The only downsides: the keyboard is European, so there is a " above the 2 key instead of a @, a £ above the 3 instead of a #, and a few other minor key differences. Of course, since the OS thinks it's a US keyboard, if I type a shift-2 I'll get a @ anyways. Only throws me off if I look. Also, the left-side shift key is barely larger than a regular key, so I'll sometimes mistype. But the overall feel of it is so great, that I'm considering getting a PS/2 to USB converter just so I can use one with my mac at home.
Thanks for the extra info... especially about Fouchardière and Marcopoly. Regardless of whether it's a hoax/scam or not, there's no way I would give money -- overseas no less -- if I had even a doubt of its legitimacy!
After seeing all the comments of people thinking it's a hoax, I did some searching and I don't think it is a hoax. First, I did a whois on the actual company, Novinit and found the following:
Organization: novinit Arnaud de La Fouchardiere 66 bis avenue Jean Moulin Paris, 75014 FR Phone: 06 07 61 23 36 Email: info@novinit.com

If the Jackito is their first product, and only recently named, it would make sense that the domain for "jackito-pda" was only recently registered.
Also, searching for their management team of
Arnaud de la Fouchardière: Founder, President and CEO; Patrick Thomsen: Vice-President Marketing and Finance; Noël Pietri: Vice-President Sales turned up (among others) these links:
Noël Pietri, Arnaud de la Fouchardière. I haven't found anything on Patrick Thomsen as of yet, but if this is a hoax, it is extrodinarily elaborate.
If the Internet connection goes down, the page loses the address it was trying to load. And is never able to retrieve it when the connection comes back up.
Easy fix:
Go to about:config and set
browser.xul.error_pages.enabled
to True. You will then have a page showing an error message if the address couldn't load, with a link to try loading it again.
On another note, a few days back someone mentioned a way to to prevent Firefox from compressing its memory in Windows when minimized. What was that preference name again?
Yes, you're probably thinking of the QR Codes which are used by DoCoMo's i-mode service.
I see those all over the place on Japanese websites.
The US is really playing catch-up with cell-phone technology.

Yeah, it sort of reminds me of the NFPA HAZCOM diamond. Danger! Windows ahead!

How appropriate!

Sweet! Thanks a million!

Short answer: no.
Long answer: yes, although the complete results were inconclusive.
I'll drink to that!!
(many apologies...)
