We've tried. Reagan committed us to the metric system years ago. Unfortunately, his plans went awry due to the powerful lobbying efforts of the fraction special interest groups.
When aboard the space station, use Scotch brand magic transparent tape to affix photos of loved ones to the wall. NEVER EVER EVER use push pins, even Scotch brand magic push pins.
Now when the feds come knocking down your door, you can just swallow all of the tunes you got through file sharing!!! Is annodized aluminum digestible?
Gaming on a TV is bad enough. Computing on a TV? My eyes would explode.
(Of course, for years I used a cheap Sears TV as the monitor for my Atari 600XL/130XE, but those computers were made for TV output, so they weren't so fuzzy...)
to now call me on my cell phone? Since ditching my land line a year or so ago, I haven't received any telemarketing calls on my cell. Will this now allow them to do so?
You can also upgrade the hard drives, currently to 80 gigs, I believe.
And the Rockbox firmware replacement project is one of the coolest open-source projects going as far as I'm concerned...
One thing though: they've recently changed their product lineup-- the Recorder V2 (which is the one they're making now, I believe) replaces the replaceable battery with built in rechargables a la the Ipod.
From fcc.gov: The FCC is directed by five Commissioners appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate for 5-year terms, except when filling an unexpired term. The President designates one of the Commissioners to serve as Chairperson. Only three Commissioners may be members of the same political party. None of them can have a financial interest in any Commission-related business

Ipod 20 gig $399
Ipod 40 gig $499
Archos Recorder 20 gig = $309
Recorder 30 = $369
Recorder 40 = $389
Recorder 60 = $439
Recorder 80 = $609
Of course it's not as sexy and only plays mp3s, but I think $100 dollar differences in price are substantial.

Ahhh Level 9. Great stuff. I used to order the games on cassette from the UK for my Atari 8Bit. I loved the Snowball/Return to Eden/Worm in Time trilogy. They really packed a lot of great stuff into very limiting hardware.

...not to mention a great recruiting tool for the U.S. Army, which is kinda creepy if you ask me.
when they change the name with every release?
With my ATI Remote Wonder, I can turn stuff on and off through walls. My std tv/dvd/stereo remotes can't do that!

Maybe millions of micropayments could somehow compete with the big special interests? Somehow?

Homer was eating them a couple of years ago. And no science involved-- just good marketing!
