Ok, so I understand the whole Microsoft Tax idea, but I think the same thing could be said for Apple. Why purchase a Mac just to wipe out the drive and install Linux? The higher cost associated with Macs is partly contributed to Mac OS X. I have an XP box, a Red Hat box, and an iBook so I get my daily dose of multi-OS use, and I can't figure out why anyone would pay more money for an iBook just for the hardware. There are plenty of laptop manufacturers out there that provide just as high quality laptops as Apple. Soooo, back to my point: If you don't plan on using OS X, don't buy a Mac!
I'm no expert on space elevators by any means, but I've never read about whether or not the actual elevator would be retracted after each use. If not, that would make quite a target for terrorism.
i spend $45/month for a cable modem so i'll never go to a "PC Baan". i can drink beer and smoke at home too (don't smoke though). i would immagine that people who frequent these places spend as much money or more for gaming per month than i do from the comfort of my own home.
"As you can guess, you can't go out and buy Windows XP Media Center Edition; Microsoft's reasoning behind this is that they don't want a handful of "low-cost" or flawed implementations out on the market giving MCE a bad name. If Microsoft is to be taken seriously in the PVR market, MCE must be very competitive with both set-top and currently available PC solutions; poorly made Media Center PCs could seriously tarnish the brand and would work against Microsoft's success. "
control the software AND the hardware. sounds like a mac to me
Actually, Pearl Jam has been trying to get out of the public spotlight ever since it was thrown into it. And don't forget their contribution to the fight against Ticketmaster. I only wish they had more luck. Also, they just released their last record on their contract with Sony and I seriously doubt they'll be signing with another big label. They will probably use a small label like the guitar player Stone Gossard's.
take the fastest P4 and the fastest G4 and record the amount of time it takes to complete a job. time is the only factor when comparing the two systems. i hope you get a chance to read the article because it really is amazing how much faster the P4 is.
ha! you really are stupid. those "illegal activities" you mention. well, they aren't exactly the same thing.
mafia - murder, tax evasion, liquor and tabacco smuggling, narcotics
ms - monopolistic practices
Mafia == Microsoft
nice one. i don't think microsoft goes around shooting cops and other people. and besides the whole monopoly thing (which was handled by the courts) how else does microsoft resemble the mob? that's the most idiotic comparison i've ever seen
Hurray, hurray!!! Now the fine citizens of the United States will have less money to fix their roads, fund research, and support their military! This is great news indeed since I'm a U.S. citizen and don't care about the welfare of my country. Hurray!! It is so great to see so many fellow Americans celebrating the loss of income for our country. I'm so proud.
I plan on purchasing one of these the day they come out. This is going to completely change the way I take notes and study. Imagine....instead of carrying 6 notebooks, all I'll need is this, plus all the extra benefits it comes with. Three words.... I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!
I have an XP box and an iBook. Go buy a crossover CAT 5 cable and use AIM/DirectConnect/or any other file sharing program out there. It's alot cheaper that way too. And if you have 100bT NIC's in both machines it's alot fast than USB as well.:)
If nobody ever paid for the OS how do you think all of these linux distros would still be in business?? My God, it doesn't take a genius to figure out you need income to pay your employees and stay alive. These free-for-all linux times we're living in will come to a screeching halt within the next few years. Why you ask? Because most of the distros are made by companies that are publicly held and their share holders will demand more revenue. If the OS is so much better than OS X or Windows, why is it such a bad thing to pay for it anyway?
Wow! This thing from Avocent is exactly what I've been wanting/looking for. I was so excited to see this product......until I saw the price. $400!?!?!? Thanks for sharing that link, but now I'm just mad.
"I can only see this as a good thing because friendly competition creates drive for better(less clippy) products."
I've used OpenOffice, Corel, MS Office, Lotus, and a few lesser knowns, and MS Office is by far the best app. Sure the price is a little steep but if you rely on these office applications (i.e. you don't use programming apps all day) to run your business then the functionality MS Office provides is unmatched.
ah yes, the KB... how could i forget?.. oh yeah, the KB made me forget :)
that's true, but now $20 doesn't go very far:
12 pack Coors Light - $9
black ink cartridge - $32
new x-box game - $50
large pizza - $16
CSC 4330 textbook - $110
new Voodoo PC - $2800 , hehe
1. Me: Turn on your computer and when it is finished loading wait about ten seconds
Her: How long is ten seconds?
2. Me: Enter your 10 digit customer id (supposed to enter into box on screen).. i then hear him entering the 10 digits into the telephone
3. Me: What version of Windows do you have?
Her: What's Windows?
Me: You know, Microsoft Windows. What version of the operating system do you have?
Her: I've never heard of Windows
4. Me: Put the floppy disc into the drive
Him: Ok, let me open it noises...noises..noises
Him: This disc is round but the slot is a rectangle. I don't think it will fit.
Me: Um, did you actually take apart the floppy disc and remove it from its shell?
Him: Oh, yeah, was I not supposed to do that?
Above stories are all true and have happend within the last three months. Ah the joy of college part-time jobs as tech support.

I clicked on the screenshot they have on the website and, to me anyway, it looks terrible. The fonts are bad, and even the graphics need alot of work.

"Could this be part of the elusive 'dark matter' talked about so much lately?"
um, no.

Tom didn't do that. Arild Skullerud did a reader submitted article to Tom's Hardware.
This technology has been around for decades!!. Don't you remember the Fat Boy or the Wave Runner? Geez... this is old technology people!!

I never said I've used them all. In the words of me, "You're an asshole and get your facts straight."

"It would further prove how stupid their business model is..."
Um, doesn't Microsoft have around $40 billion in cash sitting around? Doesn't sound like a stupid business model to me.
