    At least by charging people for the 'privalage' of downloading their patcher, Microsoft will finally have an incentive to announce its security flaws. Of course, this has the side effect that they might not beta test their software as much becuase if there is a bug in thier software, they get paid to fix it down the road.

    Whenever there a story on slashdot is posted, there always seems to be a series of troll posts that say "FP" or something of the like. While this bug is harmless, it seems to annoy the hell out of people who try to read a thread down to -1 who must sort through tons of junk.

    But i don't think he'll be hijacking any airplanes directly, which is what this system is supposted to stop. And what i said is that if you don't have one good eye, in other words, if you had no good eyes.

    Assuming they still had one good eye, that one could be scanned. Otherwise, they'd simply be subjected to greater scrutiny since they wouldn't qualify for the "express lane" at check-in

    With all due respect to the blind people out there, I seriously doubt that a person without one good eye would be much of a threat.

    Ever have a problem when you're lying naked on your money, and you accidently get a dime stuck in the crack of your ass? This is much worse.

    If you have a problem with that, then the dime (or CD) is the least of your problems.

    Most of your everyday non-technical users will be more than likely using some form of Windows or possibly Mac OS.

    But wouldn't software developers want to make things simpler for non-power users than for power users? You would think they would have adopted a standard, and in a way they have, as far as things like CTRL-X, CRTL-V, and CTRL-C. But as for the more obscure features, like character spacing, that might take some more time to standardize, and by then we'll have an even larger set of complex features that varies from version to version.

    If you want to contine to overthrow the government, run your meth lab or whatever you don't want the gubmint to see, just move it indoors. Protesting the gubmint taking photos of what you do outside is like giving the guest account on your computer root privaliges and protesting when people go through your hard drive.

    Let's divide the people who get walmart computers into two groups

    a) Rednecks - Don't know how to use FTP or telnet. For them, the default install is pleanty strong.

    b) Geek hoping to score a cheap linux computer - Not a problem since they'll know how to open up FTP or telnet ports and such without leaving a wide gaping nutsack for attackers to kick.

    The funny part is that in beta it's probally more stable than Windoze is in it's final release. The other thing is that if you're buying your computer at Wal-Mart, then odds are that you could be handed a Macintrash, be told that it runs windows, and you wouldn't know the difference.

    Make fun of us all you want, but keep this in mind:

    1) yes, the digital computer.

    2) Iowa produces Corn. Corn = Ethanol. Ethanol = lessened dependance on oil. This makes oil prices drop, and it lessens our dependance on foreign oil. Not to mention that it burns cleaner and more efficent than regular oil.

    3) You want something that we've done? How about the first six-sided 'cave' virtual reality system in the united states?
