My brother-in-law is almost falling over himself to upgrade his 1.51 PSP to 2.0. He has to have the latest and greatest revision of whatever just to have it.
I'm sitting back and waiting still. I was going to jump on the PSP and then the DS came out and then I was unsure... now it seems both platforms have faded away.
What happened to the DS? I assume N is still making them but the last newsworthy blurb was about the GameBoy Micro on Engadget. Same thing with the PSP.. nothing since the exploit a few months ago except for the white PSP and this 2.0 ROM upgrade.
The Alps MD series printers could do spot white color. They could do spot metallic color too with the same process.
The 'ink' was one wax ribbon that looked like a single-use typewriter ribbon per color. They sounded like they were going to fall apart when printing anything.
I had one but got rid of it due to high(er) consumable costs, harder to find consumables and the fact that it stopped loading paper without a fight. When it worked - and didn't get cat hair in the printout - it looked amazing!
It's not a big deal but shouldn't you give the customer the fans in the case that they paid for? Especially if they just lay around in a box and since it's more hassle to remove them than it is to just connect the leads to power.
Don't forget sheer danger... I have a TMD (tip magnetic drive) fan which has the coils and electronics normally in the hub mounted on the outer ring of the fan. When it gets up to speed (5500 RPM or there-abouts) it is a MAJOR finger chopping hazard because there is so much rotational inertia. I have been successful in getting a finger caught in it more than once and pulling back a good sized cut from the leading edge slamming into - and cutting - my fingertip.
I can understand your point but it seems as though the "desktop metaphor" goes from "files in folders, folders in drawers, drawers in cabinets" to "my secretary knows where everything is and if she ever decides to leave, I'm screwed."
Also, I can see something as a database-driven desktop where a "folder" is merely a script that places an attribute on any items dropped onto it and then if you want the particular files associated with that "folder" you would just open it.
Except for the possibility of having files with the potential of living in different folders at the same time due to multiple attributes, isn't that what current allocation table file systems do? I would wager that a SQL query would be faster than a normal file system query but unless we're talking about a huge number of files is there a time savings? There would be a space savings due to one database tracking files instead of two, that's for sure.
I agree. We do campground site maps here with advertising inserts. The folder structure is very specific with a folder for the job, a subfolder for ad graphics, another subfolder for the layout and another subfolder for the maps. The jobs can be anywhere between 10 megs and a gig depending on the job. Dozens to hundreds of pictures (bmp, eps, tiff, etc), Indesign or Pagemaker layouts, Illustrator maps, etc. It would be chaos if an advertiser logo was out of place because that would crash the entire job when it went to be plated.
I like spotlight, it works well for finding documents. I don't know if I will ever get into smart folders because I like knowing that if I put something somewhere, it stays put and it doesn't rely on a particular context to be in the folder it belongs to.
I just don't think smart folders is... smart. Apple has been working towards removing the responsibility of users having to place documents in the right folders by rolling up all the file save dialogs by default and I guess this is the logical extension of that.
This idiot that I know was using his LiveJournal account to post sensitive information about his company (not the #1 video rental chain but close) and his ass was served with a cease and desist order from their legal department and then fired immediately after that.
He was posting on his personal journal AND a LJ community about internal practices of the company and confidential documents. They fired him after watching him for a number of weeks posting various things like the pay scale and other sensitive information.
Of course, he's the type who thinks that the kids in Ocala should be able to seek legal assistance under the Comic Book Legal Fund because there was some sort of art involved so his own actions were somehow without ANY repercussions because he was using his own public soapbox. Regardless of the fact that he signed papers stating he wouldn't disseminate any confidential information as a term of his employment.

You can buy the box and a lifetime subscription instead of subsidizing the cost of the Tivo via the monthly fee. Unfortunately, it seems as though the "lifetime" of the company won't allow you to get you money's worth on a lifetime subscription.
...HP technicians report that the new HP Flying Glider prototype and flight suit are missing, and a lab tech has been found dead. It is rumoured that a cackling evil-looking figure was seen flying around on the missing glider screaming for "revenge".
I have an HP Jornada 540 and I use it very religiously. I have tried to sync it with my Mac using PocketMac but it screws up everything when it syncs - one time it even blew up my user and I've pretty much shelved the program.
The HPC syncs everything including Access databases so I really need to keep ActiveSync running. I haven't tried Sunbird yet but it sounds like it won't replace Outlook as a sync option. I figure if I could make Sunbird sync with ActiveSync, I could just use a WebDAV server to keep my PC and Mac machines updated.
Is there any way to let Sunbird sync through ActiveSync? I'm going to try to remote in to my desk at work and see if it will work but I have my doubts that it's mature enough to do it.
Same here, I ordered a 15" PB and two 17" PBs (sadly, none for myself) and called my rep who assured me that not only would we get the newer machines but the lead time was shortened to 1-3 days. Bonus!
I dunno... Personally I'm not even a huge fan of Star Wars, especially not episodes 1-3 but c'mon now... How hard is it to come up with good character names? Isn't there a series of books about this?
The General Grievous reference makes me think of the Lemony Snickett books with their cheesy alliteration names that describe the character of the person in the name itself.
I ran a pre-release copy of Tiger on my dual 867 G4 with 1 gb of memory and a GeForce 4mx, even though it was buggy as all hell (this was five months ago), it ran fast on my outdated hardware.
I worked for a company many years ago and we had a job at a large local company. The (jackass) guy who was responsible for the work was talking to the owner of the company and saying some really shitty things about the customer ("I've got them eating out of my hand" and other things) while making an OUTGOING call. Needless to say, the owner of the company was FURIOUS and booted the guy off the premises and told my boss to never let him come back out to the job site. We almost lost the job because some cocky jerkoff was shooting his mouth off about the customer.
That action led to this particular guy's firing. He was a typical arrogant MCSE who's shit was ice cream and nobody could tell him anything he didn't already know - unless it was wrong and he would certainly let them know without hesitation.
The UPS store is #333 or something like that, probably a few doors down. This is most likely a storefront in a stripmall. Wether or not it's his address is entirely different though.
watch him make $75,000 on it. Slashdotters might think he's stupid for spending that but there's a whole bunch of even dumber people who would give him money for a slice of his "property."

Where've you been? Now-adays it's FireWire 800, USB 2.0 and Serial-ATA.

Surely you meant her GliderJet and FlightPaq?

So were all of the people who downloaded early release copies of Halo 2 in French actually learning instead of just stealing? Sacre blu!!
Well, I have #5 as "???" and #6 as "Profit!" - what's step 1 through 4? :)
If you have to replace a block in the middle and the pile collapses, does the server crash and you lose?
