It was not like they gained much from not paying human employees to ring up the charge since the people are still around to do your rarer purchases.
So guess what is happening how, some places are switching to pay-at-pump systems that allow you to purchase a drinks or snack at the pump, then one of the workers will bring the items out to you.

We are primarily a contractor based company so when the office I work in wins a big contract they award cash/stock options to thoses who worked on the contract. In addition they identify "key people" in the contract, theses people get stock options if they work on the contract for a couple of months, the amount is a flat rate awarded to each key person.
In addition ever so often if the contract is doing good and we are geting the bonuses from the customer, they open it up so that if you purchase a share of stock they give you 1 or 2 stock options, the amount of you can purchase is the same for everyone, and so far has had a max amount of around $3000.

Sun purchased drivers and other stuff to use in its i86 version of Solaris, along with the rights to show that code to others.
As for the stock options; SCO probably needed the cash, Solaris had the cash so the directors of Sun decided to gamble. Solaris gets options for a price, and if SCO does good they stand to make a really nice profit. SCO gets some additional cash and has a little protection from Solaris since any action by Sun has to include potential profits from using the stock options.

Fraud is a small part, and even with cash theses companies will not sell to you.
The main reason comes because of taxes, warrenties, customs, shipping and other legal problems.
It costs alot of money to make sure that the company complies with all of theses and until a the time a company sees they can profit they are not going to spend the time and money to sell in theses countries.
Until then ship the product to somone you know in the US and then have them ship it to you. That way the person shipping to you has to deal with customs and all that mess.
