Firstly, the FCC, a self-appointed, non-elected staff brought this into law.
Second, it was put up by the US Justice Department. The US Justice Department does NOT have the power to CREATE laws! It is the legislature's job to create laws. This completely offsets the balance of power and checks and balances.
This is without a doubt a good idea (in case of that absolute emergency)...
MRE's aren't that bad, at least the pre-piss ones.
I only wonder about the different meals they'll have. What else is in the Jumbalaya? Spaghetti and Meatballs is now just Spaghetti and balls? The army needs to pounce on this to make as many double meanings as they can out of every word associated with MRE's.
Remember that this is a post in defense of America.
I notice you're all anonymous cowards too. Don't want your name by your ignorant, useless comments?
The only one of these three posts that has any value is the last one about it biting the US in the ass in the long run. Thanks for the meaningful post, I respect it. Maybe you're right. Time will tell.
Your post is off topic and ignorant. Anyone who mods it anything besides "off topic" doesn't deserve any mod points.
Worst crime levels in the world? Where are you getting your numbers from?
"Democracy" as a rich white male? Was there an alternative in the last election? Besides, that alone says you are judging on race, making yourself racist.
We can violate international laws because we got the force to back it up. In the end, might is what counts. Sorry, welcome to reality.
Freedom of speech might mean the KKK, but it also means women's rights. Interesting double sided coin, eh?
Massive poverty gap. Yeah, I can see that as a problem. I think we need to stop paying 70% of the UN's salaries and put that money toward homeless vet shelters and that of the sort.
Barely 300 years of history? Gotta start somewhere. How about the countries that were created after World War I?
I hate our sitcoms too. Don't generalize. Ask individuals what they think. Thanks.
Obesity is a growing problem. People need to start to control themselves.
Corporations aren't necessarily running backhanded deals such as Enron. Government services aren't the most clean cut, efficient things around either, you know.
Wasting billions to attack foreign countries. That's an interesting one too. I don't remember voting to go into Iraq. Going back up a few lines, how about you ask the individual what they think about it, rather than generalize?
Stop making yourself look like an idiot, anonymous coward. Get core facts to back up statements like that.
Having an ideal office is only part of the solution to a good working atmosphere. You can have the best office in the world, but with crappy management people are still going to be unhappy.
I hate my job because the management is always up my ass all the time. Idea: Leave the workers alone, let them do the work.
Another reason I hate my job: underpayed. In last month's Entrepreneur one of the words of wisdom from one of the top 100 companies was "Find the best people, and pay them well."
I'm sure other people have ideas on this sort of thing as well.
...because it works. I have an ATI 9800 Pro card which has lousy linux support.
Audigy 2 support is also very limited. Windows drivers for it are superior. The playback quality, especially in winamp compared to xmms is noticably better.
Games for linux are very limited.
Evolution is still behind Outlook, sad to say. Pocket PC support is non-existent. I couldn't even get a camera to unload pictures because it was a pain in the ass getting the USB to cooperate.
Bottom line, Windows works when I need it to work.
I just hope someday linux goes the way of OS X with a better support base and user friendliness. When you plug a camera into OS X, it works. In linux, be prepared for a fight.
Take this as constructive criticism. I have a dual boot machine, and I prefer the look of either GNOME, KDE, or Window Maker...and xfce/CDE to the non-customizable, one size fits all look of Windows and use it whenever possible.
Right now, it just isn't possible to have a linux-only desktop that suits my needs.
Throw the wallet on the ground. When he goes to pick it up, you kick him in the forehead. He'll be stunned and knocked on his ass.
And if you carry a gun or a knife, you need to know WHEN to even attempt to use it. If you are being mugged and you don't think your gun or knife will help you win, don't even take it out. It'll only add to your misery.
Nonetheless, getting a gun permit or carrying a knife for many people is a good idea. I'd rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it.
So we need to get word out to these companies that we don't want our information being sold to the government, or we won't do business with them anymore...something to that effect?
Is there a list of the companies that are doing this?
Hmmm...
Seems like LL Bean is going into a grey area of the law then. I don't know how an internet anti-loitering law would work since you can't physically hang around a website... I hope they can figure something out with this that holds the spyware companies back.
This is definatly a step in the right direction. It's an approach I never thought of before. In having spyware force ads onto potential customers who go to LL Bean's website, LL Bean is losing business from people who click the ads.
I may not be wording this correctly, but in a similar view, couldn't it be said that these ads are an invasion into the business' property?
Can you stand outside the door to KB Toys and hand out ads that say go to Toys R Us instead?
Actually, the "Star Wars" program IS a good idea. Missile defense in general is a good idea. If it can be done with lasers from space (which may not be that far off), why do it any other way?
Anyways, Slashdot listings should attempt to be neutral. Let the forums handle the biased comments.
The record labels need to go screw. I have nothing against them making money, but they should realize part of the reason people pirate music is because it's too expensive to buy it. At $16.99 it better be a perfect CD full of tracks that I'm going to listen to for more than a week.
I work on a campus, and spyware is the cause of 90% of the calls. The problem is the average user simply does not know what spyware is, or how to get rid of it. They click yes to every yes/no installer popup, and eventually there's so much crap the computer is so slow it's unusable.
What it comes down to is the average user does not know what they're doing. If they knew installing all kinds of stuff would cause problems, they most likely wouldn't do it.
It usually just takes running SpyBot, but beyond that, it takes some education since even "legit" "products" from companies seem to be worse than viruses when installed in mass amounts...
The "American Way?" What is the "American Way" exactly? And where do you get your credentials from?
America has the ABILITY to find information. China is denying the ABILITY to find information. If an American is ignorant, they probably never took the time to look the information up.
You really shouldn't be so anti-American. It's an ignorant generalization that only makes yourself look like an idiot.
Is this really a surprise? Once the Chinese figured out people outside China get to....think for themselves there would be a revolution. Communism is doing what it does best, keep the working class working and the administration keeping the working class ignorant.
I think the soccer moms have infiltrated the Florida legislature.
How about filling potholes instead of decreasing privacy? Do they really think tracking cameras are necessary, that there are more bad people out there than good people?
It's good to know the roots of things, but why does the average user care about the GPL? The JDS was designed as competition against Microsoft to get corporations to switch from Windows.
Why would an employee care that they are using open source software?
Do you know the roots of your car? Who founded the company? If the answer is yes, you like cars and that's why you know it...same reason why you would know about the GPL. If the answer is no, then I make my point.
Saving now hurts the economy...it takes money out of circulation. Even if it's at a bank, the money is not being spent so businesses won't invest using the loans the banks would give with the money of yours they have. It's a big cycle...when one thing goes wrong, everything could easily come down. When everything is in check, it's almost self-working.
Of course saving is important...you never know when you'll need extra money for car repairs or something like that. But mass saving can be bad.
Do you see UNIX as a viable operating system for the home user on the desktop?
Two problems with this...
Firstly, the FCC, a self-appointed, non-elected staff brought this into law.
Second, it was put up by the US Justice Department. The US Justice Department does NOT have the power to CREATE laws! It is the legislature's job to create laws. This completely offsets the balance of power and checks and balances.
My brother is in the military and got the surgery for free...before that he was at a 2.75 prescription.
He hasn't complained about any problems, and didn't have any complications.
This is without a doubt a good idea (in case of that absolute emergency)...

When were the old player pianos invented with the roll that you put into the piano and use the pedals to hear the song?
Wouldn't it be digital since it's just a piece of paper with a hole or no hole for one or zero?
...the fatherland has plans to raise another army by the year 2024.

I remember that same question being asked on one of Sun's quarterly launching presentations.
