It looks dated, correct, but it didn't have so much of a wow, jaw dropping effect when it came out. VII did. Hence, the difference between how I remember VII looking and how it actually looks to me now is enormous. I still expect to be wowed by it, and I'm not.

When I play back through 6 it's basically the exact same experience I had when I played it the first time. Everything looks and plays precisely like I expect it to. So, in this sense, 6 has aged better imo.

6 was also the transition game. The first one made by the new team, and an abandonment of the old style, which was completed in VII and gone back to in IX.

Oh and I left off X and X-2 because I don't think I can really judge them yet. I played and beat the hell out of X(all sidequests, all ultimate weapons, all spheres for all characters, max everything) in about 35 hours(verdict: It was pretty, but it was also kinda lame, I saw all the twists coming from a mile away). I haven't gotten a chance to play X-2, since my PS2 is fried. I left out Crystal Chronicles and XI because they're not really in the same genre imo, nor have they been around long enough.

FF VI(3 US) is better than VII. Deeper plot, longer gameplay(we're talking 60 hours first play through.), detailed backgrounds for each character and the sprite based graphics means it looks precisely the same now as it did when it was released.

Try playing back through VII then play through VI. You'll agree. VII was amazing when it was released, but now, well, it just looks ancient and bad and the story isn't any better than any other FF. The can't skip summons are still incredibly annoying as well.

Anyway, I'd rank them: VI, VII, IX, VIII, IV, V.

The N64 sold nearly as many units(if not more) as the SNES did.

The Gamecube and XBox are both on target for selling as many units as the N64/SNES/Genesis did(and who places second or third doesn't matter much, I imagine both will sell around the same).

It's not so much Nintendo got defeated as Sony grew the market by around 70 million people, and managed to maintain this into the current generation. Outside of oldschool gamers, Playstation equals games. MS get's the PC gamer nod, and Nintendo gets the oldschool gamer nod.

Anyway, when it comes to the SNES, Nintendo dropped the ball. Genesis beat them out the gates while Nintendo was saying people were happy with their 8-bit systems. The SNES caught up and Nintendo asked SEGA to move over on the current-gen leader throne.

SEGA then fucked up a few systems totally, and Nintendo designed and then didn't release the playstation. The rest is history.

If MS were even close to #1(or even #2), considering they claim to make $10 per game in liscensing fees, and nintendo says they sell 15 games per console, they would not be burning through cash like it's going out of style.

Microsoft has to be in 3rd for total sales because if they weren't in 3rd for tie-ins(Nintendo sells 12.6 games per console on average, per them, and Sony claims #1 whereas MS didn't bring this up at all) they wouldn't be losing nearly as much(if any) money on the XBox and their console sales numbers are on par with the gamecube.

Making a profit overall, no. MS is losing money hand over fist on the XBox. It's in the billions now. Any other company would be dead and even Microsoft can't keep this up forever.

Look at the numbers from the SEC filings. Nintendo is turning a profit, and so is Sony. If they are selling their systems at a loss(and neither has admitted to doing so for more than brief periods of time) they're making it up on game sales. Microsoft isn't.

Hell, they(as well as Nintendo) are even on track to selling as many units as the SNES/Genesis/N64(30/25 million) did by the end of the current generation and they still haven't made one red cent of profit.

The only explanation for this is that they can't make money off of the games.

Here are some specs, they may change, in fact they probably will at least once between now and the first time the thing is publically played in September. Now, write code for it.

As to the person who replied who stated it's a bad idea to piss Sony off. No it isn't. Gamers go where the games are, and most of the Western companies can be all cozy in Microsoft or Nintendo land next-generation.

Everything I've seen makes it look like Sony is fumbling, they haven't dropped the ball yet, but remember, the game is theirs to lose and the odds are stacked against them.

Man, you're funny for a guy posting on the internet with a PC that can probably play many of these "exclusives" for way under $600, even after MS tax.

There are only two publishers that matter that put any exclusive content on the XBox. SEGA and Tecmo. Not too shabby, but without Square-Enix and a sane luggable hardware design they'll never get Japan and without Japan they'll never get the older franchise games that really move units and add value.

And, you're assuming the XBox is going to get lots and lots of quality exclusives in the next generation it missed out on in this one. You psychic or did you cut a faustian marketing deal with Microsoft?

Can't get near the efficency out of it as you can with a dual-shock or S controller, but it's very simple to just pick up and play.

The c-stick works great for what it's meant to be used for, camera control, I almost never touch the d-pad, and I haven't noticed a problem with hitting anything. Everything seems pretty well-laid out to me. Heck I can toss a cube controller to anyone(even non-gamers) and they can normally just go right into playing. That says good design to me.

You may dislike it, but do you really think it's a BAD controller? Like old IR controller bad?
