    never having witnessed a mandrake install (tigerlily's laptop works flawlessly), i have to ask - is the mandrake install a non-interactive process? i would not have to answer any questions at all?
    my experience is tainted by debian - the only distribution that wrote even half reasonable documentation for installing onto oldworld powermacs. heck, when they HAVE an installation process for oldworld powermacs, i can forgive them a clumsy installation process that needs a lot of hand holding. my machine always needed a lot of handholding anyways. eleven architectures. take that, micros^H inte^H [insert monopolist here] !

    the thing about it is the writer could have easily worded it thus:
    "While Linux and Mac users had a calm _month_, Microsoft users were ..."
    and still be not far from the mark. what i find most disturbing is the nature of the exploits. sure, linux is not problem free, but consider: the last real 'problem' i can find on my mailing list * is an 'exploit' for wu-ftpd. it allows an attacker to run other programs with privileges of - get this - wu-ftpd. now, if you're running an anonymous ftp server, you _do_ have uploads disabled, don't you? eg wu-ftpd can't write? if'n i'm way wrong on this, i'm open to concise enlightenment.

    whoah.
    wish i knew your dealer.
    in 1995, netscape COST MONEY, and showed signs of being able to become a complete operating system. microsoft started bundling IE with their operating system, free.
    most people use what is offered them, not what is best.
    and to call IE better (at any point except version 6 (which was just bad)) is a lot of a stretch.

    my head hurts from trying to follow the logic presented. in all fairness, i gave up in the middle of the second to last paragraph, so there might have been a reasonable conclusion. but i wasn't willing to bet any more of my sanity on it.

    So it could be argued that the Samba team has not gone far enough, and could have said:
    For SCO to continue to use Open Source/Free Software while attacking others for contributing to it is the epitome of hypocrisy.

    Does Darl have parents we can call?

    metamoderation. when i see a moderation on a comment on an article that i haven't read that isn't obviously fair or unfair, I somet^H^H^H^H^H usually go and read the article before making a decision.

    If you're going to come down on the taleban, come down on them for the right reason: they were allowing him safe harbour _before_ 11/9/2001. No one has yet offered believable evidence that Osama bin Laden was behind the 11/9/2001 tragedy. The talebans' refusal to turn him over after the missile attacks (given the flimsiness of the evidence) was almost reasonable.

    Yes it was Newton, but no, it wasn't any kind of noble thought on his part. One of my second year phsics instructors pointed out that it comes from a letter to Hooke. Hooke was, shall we say, vertically challenged, and Newton thought him inferior in intellect.
