okay if "true analog" is so much better then why keep using WASD? Keyboards aren't analog.
Personally I have found that in FPS's designed for the console the right analog stick is fine for aiming. It's the PC ports where it doesn't work so well. In that case I plug the mouse in, but continue to use the dual shock for movement.
I've done something similar but the amount of touch(actual movement of the stick) I use varies by how far away the target is from the aiming reticule. It's a little for near ones, more for ones further away and all the way if I want to turn around fast, In other words the stick is still analog because you don't use "light movements" for everything.
Suggested? It's a supported function of the thing, called Install OtherOS.
Now which one is it successful at being at? There is nothing worse than losing focus and at least with a PC you can do whatever you want with it.
It's not a zero sum game. Having Blu-Ray player functionality doesn't affect it's gaming stuff. (In fact games come on Blu-Ray) Being able to run Games doesn't mean you can't run Linux and do whatever you want.
It's the battery life, WiFi eats power like no tomorrow, even with the new battery. 333Mhz also eats power, using both would chew through even the new battery sooner than one would want
Farmers took big to computers in a big way. Farms are businesses and having fast access to information helps them just as much as it would help other businesses. Back in the 80's farmers could access agro oriented information services, with hefty fees, and the farmers glady paid for it because it made their farm more profitable.
If the game has built in voice, bandwidth can be an issue. I found that out playing SOCOM with a 1500/128 connection. When the cable company bumped everyone up to 3000/256 my SOCOM voice troubles ended.
Mediacom charges a little less in central illinois about $50 for 8Mbps/256 up. 10 bucks more can get you the 10/1 package. Course back in 02 I was paying Mediacom that $50 for 1.5/128
In the past, the stipend used to be determined in part by ones rating numbers and how much L$ you had,. Higher ratings, more L$ in the stipend, less cash on hand, more L$ in the stipend. So people would game it by high rating people for money and transferring funds to "banks" That's probably the period in which the grandparent poster had their "bank" .
Yes, they added options to consoles that weren't there before, they took chances. And when it comes to the internal hardware Sega and Sony were quite willing to innovate and take risks.
Nintendo is a very risk averse company, especially in NTSC U/C territory.
Also there were many pundits that said, "Oh no one wants a game system that can play DVD's they want something cheap that's just games. Everyone will wait for the Revolution/Dolphin."
You'll see PS3 sales rise when the PS2 games dry up. RPG gamers have no reason to switch...yet.
Nintendo the most "innovative hardware" manufacturer? No, that award would go to Sega, or perhaps Sony.
Sega:
remember the Netlink? The Nights controller? The DC microphone The DC web browser disk The DC Ethenet gizmo
Sony: Dual analog, no not the dual shock I'm talking about the BIG dual analog flightstick the dualshcok the Yaroze? The PS2 Linux kit? USB and Firewire on the PS2 Linux on the PS3? The eyetoy Voice recognition in games that worked?
It took a while for the PS2 to build up steam too. December of 2001 IIRC. And during the first year I saw lots of "teh PS2 is d00m3d" articles on Slashdot.
PSX was the old codename inside sony for the device officialy known as the PS1. Some magazines continued to use the PSX moniker after the release to prove how hardcore they were. "We were fans when we saw the prototypes" sort of thing.
But a few years back Sony released the PS2/DVR combo device called the PSX, but it wasn't released in NTSC U/C territory.
True, but newbie areas (even unofficial hangouts) are watched and monitored and someone doing that sort of thing will be dealt with. Doing "mature" things in "PG" areas is a serious TOS offense.
40000 is the number of people logged in at one time, it's not the total number of "Residents" which is much higher, or the number of "active residents, which is less but still high
And I don't know why/. has an obsession with the furries of SL. They're there, but they're easily outnumbered by the human avatars. Less than 10% of the population I'd guess.
It's quite easy to find ready for PSP content out there (or for other devices that can play H.264/MPEG$, but why on earth do they still use xvid rather than superior H.264. Inertia? Stubbornness?

Someone reported something like this on the Yellow Dog Linux mailing list a few days ago. It still happens.

Reply from Sony:
Dear Anonymous Coward;
Install Linux, use XMMS, Enjoy. Works on a Playstation 2 with a Linux kit installed too.

It's still true today.

No. While the US has a lot of rural spaces, very few people actually live in them. Most americans live in or near urbanized areas.

It won't be cheap forever. The amount of oil/gas/coal is finite.

Actually FFXI IS compatible with the PS3, they added support for creating a PS2 HD partition on the PS3 HD.
Name the previous generation console with 2 MMORPG's: the PS2.
Name the previous generation console with hordes of RPG fans that any company would love to have paying them 15 bucks a month: the PS2.
Which system do you think all those RPG fans are going to buy because they can keep playing their huge libraries of PSone and PS2 RPG's.
The PS3.
