We havn't even discovered if there is/was life on the nearest planet to us... how in the world to these pompous asshats think they can know how the world began?
ok.. I know where you are coming from. You are a computer "nerd" and you don't get out a lot. Well - thats one thing you HAVE to change if you want to turn that keg into a six pack. It won't happen by doing crunches at your desk... you need to do some serious physical activity. Most doctors will tell you that to maintain a health life, you need to take at least 10,000 steps a day. I'm sure if you have a beer belly you are not even reaching into the thousands.
If you don't feel like exercizing, there are some things you can do... STOP drinking all soda/pop. These things are emtpy calories that just leave you wanting more. Don't drink it at all. Ever. Beer will also pack on the pounds but if you are moderate and just have a couple beers no more than 2 times a week, you will be fine.
For things to suplement your non-excersizing. Park as far out in the parking lots as you can wherever you go. I don't care if you are just stoping at the local Quiky Mart - park across the street. And also, stairs are your friend. Take those puppies whenever you can.
I havn't read what other people have suggested, but doing butt crunches while you are sitting in a chair isn't going to drop one pound. Be realistic. Eat better, and exercize more. Thats all there is too it, if you truely want to lose weight this is a no brainer.
Do you ever wonder why you don't see etheoipians that are fat? Its becuase they don't have all the sugary foods we do and they constantly are working. Simple math here... can you do it?:)
So don't be surprised if you're in Japan early next year and see people running holding their cellphone/PDA like a gun."
Anyone recall that movie Casino where the guy got shot by a cop becuase he had the Turkey club sandwich in his hand? MMM Open face club sand wedge... GRAAHHHGHHHHH
Sure we have the hoover dam, which powers 3 states? Right? We know the oil supply is diminishing, and we will have to rely on either hydro or wind power within the next decade if we want to be able to go outside without suits to protect us from the thinning ozone layer.
Take Oklahoma for example... TONS of rivers and lots of space where you could easily and very cheaply recreate another hoover dam. WHY DOESN'T THIS HAPPEN??? (rhetorical question, we all know the answer there)
You know, I drive around on a golf cart every day, and it goes a good 20mph and requires minimal charging. I wouldn't mind in the least bit switching over to an electric car providing it would be cheap to recharge. And with hydro power on the scale that is talked about here, electricity would be at a super abundance. If you made a dam in Oklahoma say, you could power texas, arkansas, kansas, missouri, and perhaps even some states as far as colorado, with basically no problems at all. In case you haven't been to oklahoma, its full of rivers AND LOTS AND LOTS of open land where this sort of project would be VERY viable.
I wonder if any bank would lend me 25 billion dollars to build one?:)
I mean really... whats next - picking your nose for dummies?
"Ah yes, the picking of the nose - a long practiced art started by arabs for digging sand out of their nasal cavities after those long caravans. The main trick to picking the nose is one simple rule: if it bleeds, you are picking it too much... or not enough."
politician types who DID get into computing for the bucks and have actually made some sort of messed up life working with computers and keeping the real people who could do the job 5x as good out of the job.
err.. i guess i have a little resentment there don't I?;)
Ok... i've had windows 2000 installed since it hit the warez scene back around august of 99.
NEVER ONCE have I had a problem with this OS made by the 'evil ones' except for when IT WAS MY FAULT. Either I overclocked my machine, installed beta drivers, or just did something very stupid. IT HAS NEVER crashed on its own. Might I note that through all of this i've been using a radeon32 then a radeon 8500 and i'm sure there are others out there that can vouch for me that radeons were never really supported by win2k at first, but then ATI got their act together and wrote some decent drivers, BUT EVEN SO, the drivers that were out there were stable enough to call my box a workstation.
but chew on this... I've know someone that works at an ISP who spends about 80% of his day and 80% of his bandwidth gets chewed up from dealing with spam. I mean, really, its just a matter of time before the "spam-bubble" bursts.
The ISP is the only one (besides the user, which we won't dare bring into this picture) that can effectively block spam.
That being said, it is every ISP's job to do whatever they can to block whatever spam that might hit their users. I certainly don't pay my isp to let spam pass through. To put it another way, I don't pay my DSL provider for crappy service, outages, and ping fluctuations. Same thing here only theres a company that sees a big name like Sprint but only sees $$$.
I'm sure this will be/.'ed so heres the conclusions for ye scurvy dogs
Conclusion:
If you are looking to upgrade an older system, and you don't want to spend a lot of cash, then the Celeron 2.2GHz might just be the right processor for you. From my experience with a P4 1.6A processor, that is the first Northwood P4 with 400FSB and 512KB of L2 cache,I would say that the Celeron 2.2GHz performs a little slower, maybe 5%.So, you are getting a 1.5GHz +
P4, at a price of 75-85 USD compared to the P4 1.5GHz costing from 99-127 USD. Combine that with an Asus P4B266 motherboard at 50 USD and a stick of DDR266 memory at 22 USD only, you are looking at a total renewal of your old system for as little as 157 USD which seems quite ok for me. Do note though that you will need an ATX case for the motherboard and a P4 power supply, as your older one will probably lack a special connector that P4 motherboards require to power the CPU.
PROS:
Good All Round Performance
Price is very good, around 85 US dollars at most
Performs similarly to a fully fledged P4 2.2GHz in certain apps
ya, theres no doubt that the game is filled with crazy cheesy one liners, but if you think about it, its a bit like memento in a way... The guy actually killed his wife himself, doesn't remember it, but figures it out through dream sequences, then goes and seeks revenge through impossible odds.
Wait a second... isn't that the storyline behind all action type movies? Oh wait... Max Payne had the designer drug that made it "all good" */sarcasm*
I thought Half Life would have made an excellent movie.
But put that idea to rest and just make a movie straight from Max Payne. That storyline was just incredible. Sure it would make the movie about 4 hours long, but man would it be great the first time you watched it.
What about the obligitory "PLUG IT IN PLUG IT IN!"
IMO this is just getting rediculous... this is almost as bad as the whole "buy it now" patent.
let the "*nix is better" jokes begin.
SIGH
about the slashdotting that is occuring to this website? Move along.
I expect lots of mod's down for overrated... come on people, dont' hold back!

not in the slightest bit. At all. Seriously. I'm not kidding.
well.. except for the obligitory 250-1001 times on /. =)
I think I would probably cover my netherregions with something like this also.
I get that orgasmic feeling. I thought it was just for Taco's witty remarks...
For some reason I doubt it... GO NERD POWER! =)

After all, its not how you say something, its WHAT you say that really counts.
appled recently released the information that they bought out the Designer Meuseum in London.
