Most people will never bother to read the list and just assume that all of the old games will work, so this pushes the blame (whether deserved or not) to the game developer rather than Microsoft.

They pretty much have to include the software emulation though, as Sony has turned this into an expected feature of consoles. People that own the original are more likely to upgrade knowing that they will have many more games to play at launch, even if they are not the superior quality.

Most comparisons I've seen say the iBook is actually more durable than the PowerBook. I had an Apple rep tell me the same thing instead of trying to sell the most expensive thing in the store. The case is made from the same material as bulletproof glass with a magnesium frame to give it even more strength. Same drop sensors as the PowerBooks, so no advantage there either. Most 12-year olds are going to give it a beating like it's never seen (no kids, huh?) So what would you suggest? Perhaps Apple should decrease the price of computers on a daily basis. The day it is released it costs $499. The next day it only costs $498.99.

Apple is selling the Mac Mini at $499. They aren't promising anything beyond that. They aren't artificially inflating the price of anything. They are giving a random selection of people more than what they paid.

Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo all drop the prices of their game consoles over time. That doesn't mean they ripped off all their previous customers when they do it. People know that computers get faster, existing products go down in value. Of course people are getting less value for their money if they buy right before a price break. It's happened to me and it sucks, but I still hardly consider what Apple is doing a bad thing. (and yes, I know that you didn't specifically say it was)

If Apple is even explicitly advertising the "at least or better" concept I'm sure it's only to protect themselves from some idiot who'd sue because they bought a 1.4 GHz and received a 1.5 GHz processor. Come on, you know it would happen.

Now I need to figure out how to put a square peg in a round hole.

It's not a tower computer case where you get more space by going vertical. It's great that I can put it horizontal or vertical, but I think the consoles will end up horizontal more often than not other than for novelty sake.

I give them choices within reason and we have to force them to eat some healthy food sometimes, but it's for their good. I know what's healthy, they know what tastes good. Until/unless you develop a taste for it, the two very rarely are the same.

Basically, until the child is 18 and/or supporting herself, they don't get the same rights as an adult. You can't wait until they are 18 and suddenly give them unlimited responsibility, but this is a good measure to help monitor and educate the child before they have to make all these decisions. I wouldn't beat the child for eating chocolate pudding, french fries and a pepsi, but talk to them and let them know that there are better choices. The large chain charges the most. The tickets are more, the drinks are more, the popcorn is more (and free refills on both at the smaller theatres). I would sure think that the larger theatres could negotiate a better price.

It's the same thing with Blockbuster video. Why is it that they charge more than the mom and pop shop right next door for the exact same DVD. Better yet, why are people willing to pay it? At least at a theatre you might convince me that one has a better screen/sound/seats or whatever. I guess people think that Blockbuster somehow magically transforms their 15 year old tv into HDTV with Surround.

The average person is a sucker for marketing. The theatre and Blockbuster have convinced them that it's better to pay more even though they aren't getting more. Wal-Mart convinces them that it's better to buy some crappy can opener that doesn't work as long as they pay less.
