  1. Hmm on Apple Sued Over iTunes UI · · Score: 5, Insightful

This seems to cover not only iTunes but WinAMP, FooBar2000, and just about any other player that can organize music and play only selected artists, albums, or genre's.

This my friends is why we don't like software patents.

i will repeat the statement i made in another branch of this thread.

is give not a verb? So how is it that "advice to give" is not the correct form?

so you're saying you need 2 verbs to say this? give is a verb, so "advice" is the noun, the thing you are giving. as such advice in my eyes appears to be the correct form of this, not advise. however i could be wrong, but that is my thinking on it.

is "give" not a verb? You're "giving" advice... so should that not be a noun? a person, place, or thing (just to keep things simple).. so.. you're giving advice... give is the verb, advice is the noun.

  6. Duh on Software Piracy Will Get Worse · · Score: 1

With the way the economy is going here in the united states it wouldn't surprise me if piracy went up. This country is turning into a country that sells things and doesn't make things. But you can only sell so much stuff, so jobs are in the crapper and instead of making good wages people are making a lot less. Michigan is horrible at the moment. it's really quite sad. i love software companies that provide student discounts. I have a feeling that is a very large portion of software piracy right there. There's no way a student can afford the ever increasing price of tuition and buy a computer and buy software too.

now factor in the part where businesses what you to have experience in something, but you can't get experience without the education, or the tools to even learn. ok so products that have a high learning curve ... they are still typically very expensive. with the exception of Maya who offers the free educational version. i'd like to give those guys at alias a big thank you for that one. They really understand that their product is one that needs to be out there for people to learn on. if only more companies did this or sold their educational versions for a reasonable price... ie.. less than $100.. anything more and most of us cannot afford it.

just my opinion obviously.. i wouldn't know half of what i know now without piracy.

well i won't say it would require a big fuck up by google. google spread as a word of mouth thing for me. everyone i knew was proclaiming "google rocks" and "google is the best search engine i've ever used" and that's how google became as big as it did. of course it wouldn't have gotten the fanfare without being good at what it does. it seems that now we get this fake hype about other search engines but they can't deliver. all it would take to dethrone google is someone to actually be BETTER and come up with an innovative way of showing you the results. google did it with small ads but for the most part stayed out of your face. now if others jump on that bandwagon it could trouble for google if they pull off something good. lately i've been hearing yahoo isn't so bad at what it does now. but.... it's so cluttered i refuse to use it.

besides.. gmail, google, adsense, picasa, maps.google.com... sorry but google continues to be innovative.. i say good luck to anyone who wants to compete now. google has proven it can innovate and do it consistantly time and time again.

The iPod is sticking around whether he likes it or not, in fact it seems like Apple is ahead of Microsoft here on the mobile phone front, the iTunes phone is supposedly coming out in June. When will Microsofts implementation come out? Around the time of longhorn? so... probably not this decade. We'll see, but I see myself wanting another iPod when and if my iPod dies. Simple as that.

Apple emailed a lot of customers saying there was a delay and that it should ship "today." However GDS is kinda flawed. It isn't built into the filesystem end of the OS, meaning if updates are made, google doesn't know about it until it goes and checks on it's own. this could mean that some files could be out of date. when you search for it in GDS. bad news. Spotlight and WinFS go one step further and provide up to date info because they know when a file is updated, added, or deleted.

    my thoughts exactly

I grew up with an NES and an original GB. I love nintendo and people can claim they produce little kid games but in the end i find their puzzles and games way more entertaining than what the other consoles provide. They actually tend to make me think and therefore i test myself. I can't say the same for a lotof the 3rd party games but nintendo's own games are top notch. the systems were also amazing, i loved all the controllers more than the competitors controllers (minus the N64 controller, while it was nice it was a bit hard to hang onto for longer periods of time. however the GameCube controller rocks, so much so i bought an adapter for lik sang for the computer to use the GC controller on it.

I will buy the nintendo console no matter what. i may buy a PS3 but i refuse to buy an XBox because they threaten to remove nintendo from the playing field. They just have too much money to bully nintendo around with. Faster releases, they take the loss but produce the console with the best graphics, leaving nintendo who recoups costs over longer periods. which is fairly standard now in the industry.

  16. Re:What about google's desktop search? on Apple and MS Battle For Desktop Search Supremacy · · Score: 1

The only problem with Google Desktop Search is that the results can become out of date. If a file is deleted and Google Desktop Search hasn't noticed then a search will show that file as available but when in reality it isn't. But since Spotlight is so tied in with the operating system then it knows when files are added or delete and as such can add or delete data from the database as changes occur.

Since Java is built in they're probably just trying to get all the Cocoa bindings and stuff fixed up for 1.5. It WILL be released probably shortly after Tiger. It just wasn't as big of a deal, most apps use 1.4 anyway so out of the box almost all apps should work as they did in 10.3, 1.5 might break a few apps, so until it's stabilized i am thinking they are just going to stick to 1.4 until they are sure it won't cause lots of problems for end users. Give it another month tops and you'll probably see it.
